MUONFE: Configure OPCUA IOC to read PLC vacuum system variables #8901

Feature Request

As a scientist, user or technician, I would like to be able to monitor the status of various parts of the vacuum system.

Explanation

This request has been made because of a misbehaving valve which occasionally closes randomly(?) causing beam loss. The ability to monitor its status and take action accordingly will prevent wasted beamtime.

As part of this work, status information has also been provided for other parts of the vacuum system. It is envisaged that eventually, a monitoring system similar to that provided by the RIKENFE machine (using OPCUA rather than MODBUS) will be implemented for the South-Side muon instruments running on MUONFE. This ticket is also a proof-of-concept for this future work.

Additional Information

  • A document describing these OPCUA variables is located in the 'Manuals' directory of the ExptCtrls network share
  • An OPCUA IOC already exists in the IBEX distribution, as well as a working example, being the MAPS TPG pressure readouts

See our Git Workflow.

Acceptance Criteria

  • Vacuum system status information is available as PVs to the southside muon instruments.

To the reviewer: Make sure to update submodules!
