How to deal with time dependent release time step that is after the simulation has finished?

When the simulation has finished/stopped and a time dependent release timestep is after this stopping time, NO additional release (for this later timestep) is done.
Is that okay or do we want to "wait" for this release or do we want to release it earlier, e.g. at one timestep after the simulation what have finished?
