Support Ruby 2.7.0

I would like to be able to use ruby-lsp, but we're currently on Ruby 2.7.2. Based on this comment from the PR added the 2.7.3 requirement, the reason for requiring 2.7.3 is because that's what syntax_tree required at that time. syntax_tree expanded their support to 2.7.0 in version 3.5.0. Would it be possible for ruby-lsp to also support 2.7.0? My assumption is that this is just a dependency version change and that there aren't actually any code changes, but I'm creating this as an issue in case it's not.

Hey @dlogs, thanks for the suggestion and relevant references.

But IMO, the recommended practice is to always upgrade Ruby to the latest patch version for security reasons. In this case it'd be 2.7.7, which we currently already support.

Would you mind sharing the reason you're not able to upgrade Ruby even just to 2.7.3?

We are planning to upgrade. I just thought if ruby-lsp could support 2.7.0 without any code changes, then why not ask?

We "might" support it without any code changes. But expanding support to earlier patch versions also means the project is susceptible to known Ruby issues and increases potential maintenance burden. We'll need some code changes if that does happen.

Given that Ruby 2.7 is close to EOL (end of next March), we don't plan to expand support on its earlier versions. I recommend upgrading your Ruby just by a patch version, which is beneficial to your app and likely won't cause any issue. Or you can use a forked version as a temporary measure too 🙂

Note: This serves as a last resort if you have a good reason to not update Ruby to 3.0+ (like you have some environments that can’t be touched); otherwise using a Ruby version beyond its EOL invites vulnerabilities.
