Due to the company reset last year, we at Unity have had to deprioritize the development of the ToonShader package. As a result, we are currently unable to implement new features or enhance existing ones.

However, the ToonShader team remains passionate about the project, and we hope to resume active development in the future. To support this effort, we would appreciate it if you and the community could submit any feedback as outlined in this article.

One thing that I wish you could add though, is if you could compare the results of applying ToonShader vs the results that you want to have to the above scene, and elaborate more.
Applying ToonShader is more or less already similar to applying posterization effect, so I am not sure what are the exact results that you would like to have.

I can't seem to find ToonShader package on the roadmaps ('Unity Engine' -> 'Rendering and visual effects' section). Should I click on the 'Submit a new idea' button, or I missed it?

I hope you can understand it by this image below.

*Default = URP default
*Toon shader = this package

*Posterize count = 7 is desirable

What I meant is that more customization on the posterization effect please :)
(low bit-depth and wide color gamut look more cartoony)

Hi,

I took another look, and it seems the effect you’re describing is already supported in the Toon Shader via Shading Steps and Feathers.

If this doesn’t cover your use case, could you share what’s missing or why it doesn’t meet your desired style? Examples or screenshots would be especially helpful.
