Problem / Use Case
Writers, students, and developers often need quick visibility into document size and progress. Without built‑in metrics, users must rely on external tools or guess their word/character count, which is inefficient and disrupts the writing process.
Proposed Solution
Add a compact status bar in the editor footer that displays:
- Word count
- Character count
- Line count
Metrics should update in real time as the user types and reflect the currently active tab. Values should be displayed unobtrusively, with optional hover tooltips explaining each metric.
Alternatives Considered (optional)
- Using external word‑count tools
- Copy‑pasting into other editors
- Relying on assignment platforms to check word count after writing
These approaches are slower and break SnapDock’s “write here, stay here” workflow.
Additional Notes (optional)
Future enhancements could include configurable metrics, reading time, or per‑document statistics. The feature should remain minimal to preserve SnapDock’s clean UI.
