I created this issue to take some of the discussion away from the actual pull requests.

One thing I would like to see is a proper integration test.

Currently, I run manual experimentation on some local throwaway repos (an original, a (local) remote, and a (local) clone of the remote). Then, when satisfied, I take the git commands and plug them into the deployer.

This approach has drawbacks

• manual testing gets tedious
• not repeatable
• others cannot run the test
• not sure whether deployer will work as expected

Suggestions for setting up such a test?
