Hi everyone,

I'm encountering a similar issue while trying to run Vale in an ARM-based Ubuntu VM on Parallels (M1 Macbook Pro). The error I get is:

OSError: [Errno 8] Exec format error: '/home/parallels/Documents/code/documentation_playground/.sphinx/venv/lib/python3.10/site-packages/vale/vale_bin'

For context, I'm running vale from a make command which tries to execute the vale_bin file which is built for x86, and hence the command fails.

I suspect this is due to architecture incompatibility, as my host machine is ARM-based, and Vale appears to be built for x86.
Running file ....../vale/vale_bin gives me the output:

../vale/vale_bin: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, interpreter /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2, BuildID[sha1]=5cd5fe1736a6485032427415e93c0f3a981a4543, for GNU/Linux 3.2.0, stripped

FIX:

I've tried using an x86 Ubuntu VM instead, which works, but it would be great to have a native ARM-compatible version of the Vale binary.

Is there any update on supporting ARM-based systems? Alternatively, is there a recommended way to recompile Vale for ARM? I'm happy to help test or provide more details if needed.

Hi @geoffreynyaga ! So good you found this issue. My intention was precisely that: bringing more eyes to a platform I cannot test myself. I'm checking your PR, thanks for contributing!
