Amazon Kindle Books are not updated to the latest version? #1

Hello,
I realize this isn't the most appropriate avenue for the following type of problem. The email in the book is bouncing back and I don't have another means of communication.
Amazon Support told me the samples may have been updated, but the kindle books themselves haven't been updated past what I have since around first publication. The latest I'm seeing with the app (across multiple devices) is v1.02, but the sample (at least for the very first book in the series) is at v1.07.
Does this match with what is expected? It would be nice to pickup the series with the latest updates.
