Why no hardware acceleration? I'm sure many people are wondering. We provide logging, audio, and network for containers on Android — via the
android-log,android-audio, andandroid-networkmeson options — but noandroid-gpu. Why's that? For logging, AOSP has liblog. For audio, libaaudio. For networking, standard APIs like libnetutils and libandroid_net. But for GPU? Android currently has no universal, version-independent, vendor-independent high-level API. It's just specific GPU drivers — Freedreno for some Adreno GPUs, Panfrost for some Mali GPUs. So we're stuck with the generic, compatibility-focused VirGL solution :)
Of course, we still encourage developers to propose better solutions that also play nicely with most devices :)
