[Feature]: Disable wallpaper darkening when Battery Save is enabled

Problem Statement

I would love to leave Battery Save on permanently. I don't mind if notifications trickle in a bit slower, in my experience, they still come in just fine. The one thing from keeping me doing this, is that my Pixel darkens my wallpaper/homescreen when Battery Save is enabled. Google provides no way to prevent this from happening. I understand this feature when you use Battery Save Extreme. But for normal Battery Save, it's really annoying.

I came across this, a way to prevent this from happening:

It says it doesn't need root to perform this action: settings put global battery_saver_constants enable_night_mode=false

Would this still work on Android 17? Or something similar? If so, can it be added to Essentials?

Alternatives Considered

There are unfortunately no other solutions proposed online.

But as I always say to people, using battery saver always is a waste of the device you paid for because most of it's unique features are disabled and unused :)

I only use it during an emergency and still find close to no difference in battery drain.

I've had it enabled for almost a week. Didn't miss a thing. What unique features are you talking about? I'm I'm the EU so lots of AI features aren't available + I've disabled Gemini. Don't need it..

I've had it enabled for almost a week. Didn't miss a thing. What unique features are you talking about? I'm I'm the EU so lots of AI features aren't available + I've disabled Gemini. Don't need it..

Maybe it's personal pref,

• I can not live a day without the AOD as I usually get a lot of meetings and such so it helps me to keep a track on upcoming ones and more info thanks to the at a glance, (There's more uses to AOD),
• No 120Hz, HDR, ... I paid for a premium display already... Why not just use it?
• No hotspot if you needed (NVM, now I can enable it? Since when?)
• Too aggressive at killing background apps. So if you daily use with it, it becomes a bit like when some people clear recent apps all the time, the apps need to be constantly restarted every time they use often leading to more power use than being in background efficiently.
• Turns off visual effects and blur...
• No light theme, I do keep the device in auto theme for use as well as for testing the apps I develop
• I assume no 5G (IDK if it's a thing anymore) but I don't care as I never got 5G
• Delayed notifications (If notifications in general aren't delayed enough... They are so bad even without power saving already.. takes ages to arrive)

All those points make sense, but none of it really bothers me. AOD is totally opposite. I don't want to be disturbed. Don't want to be constantly getting notifications. Most have been disabled anyways. Few things are really so important that a realtime notification is necessary. I rather have my attention on something I like focussing on..

The 120Hz makes sense for specific actions. Not constantly. That's why I paid premium for an LTPO screen. The HDR, same story. So whenever I really spend time on my phone playing a game or watching a video, I'll turn off battery save. But for 50-75% of the time it can stay on.

I do have 5G btw. And I do have blur. But that's probably because I've never experienced Pixel Launcher. If anything is holding back this premium device it's that launcher..

The problem of aggressively killing background apps could def be a reason for me not to use it. So far it's been going well. I believe there is a setting in Developer Options that I enabled. This helps. But I can't seem to find it now.
