`git push` not working inside a container with a non-root user

Brief

• When we do git push or git pull it doesn't work inside the container.
• Authentication related error i guess, because when we add sudo to the command, it works.

Add the PAT and git user in the .gitconfig file under home... use this command
echo "https://<Username>:<PAT>@github.com" > ~/.git-credentials

And second, if it works with this, how should we do add this to the current architecture without having the user rebuild everytime or have them execute this on startup?

I will look into this but till then my naive solution is to just mount the ~/.git-credentials folder inside

Just to give more clarity on @Srindot 's solution, we have to do what he said locally, not inside the container. Just my creating a dot file and putting it inside your local home directory, the --privileged flag from Docker takes it and we are able to use it without sudo. It does work tho!

(Root Cause: Assuming that the .git-credentials is missing in the host system)

Inside a VS Code Dev Container, Git runs in a non-interactive environment, meaning it doesn't prompt for a Personal Access Token (PAT) when authentication is needed. Instead of asking, it fails outright because it lacks access to credentials.

Solution
Even with the --privileged flag, if .git-credentials isn’t set up, Git still won’t authenticate properly. The fix is to add the credentials in the host system and then run the container with --privileged flag to access the credentials:

In your host system, set the credentials (assuming that they are missing):
