We can rely on TLS (and SecIO, TLS with no CA) as a way to authenticate and encrypt streams for hobbits transparently.
To be clear, I think it's over the top to use encryption for blockchain traffic right now since we're trying to have fast traffic. As in, encryption between nodes in an adversarial, trustless environment is not required.
But let's specify it with a few TLS options so we have it, we can point to it, at least on a roadmap.
