Ive had another idea, what about implementing teletext buttons on the remote.

yeah ive found that one quite amusing, it also has an editor for creating teletext/ascii art.

Imagine having recorded a movie on A VCR tape and by that accidentally creating a backup/archive of those amazing teletext pages transmitted...

I've been thinking about this and one project that reminds me of Teletext is the Moebius editor. In addition to being a fantastic standalone text art editor their server capabilities intrigue me. It supports a websocket powered server that enables realtime multiplayer collaboration on ANSI / ASCII text art. The output of a Moebius server could be downloaded and paged through in a Teletext style.

Currently I've implemented the Character Generator function with an editor that allows you to create Teletext style bulletins.

I'm still thinking of a way to implement regular ANSI art; Moebius is a good tool for composing it and there are libraries available for parsing it too:
