tModLoader Dedicated Server Container

Run a modded Terraria server in Docker and manage worlds, Workshop mods, players, and backups from your browser.

This wiki documents Crosis47/tmodloader, an independently maintained container project. It is not the upstream tModLoader development wiki and is not affiliated with Re-Logic or the tModLoader team.

Report a container issue — for installation, dashboard, backup, or container problems. Include the details listed in Report a problem.

Start here

  1. Install and start your server.
  2. Complete dashboard setup.
  3. Create a world and choose mods.
  4. Set up backups before inviting players.

The editor, mod-profile, support-report, and release-highlight examples are copied from the source repository at the 3.8.0 release commit ba370c7; the editor and profile captures show a vtest label. Ten other dashboard screenshots—Overview, Worlds, Backups, Workshop, runtime updates, Players, Configuration, Scheduling, light theme, and container-update notice—remain 3.7.5 examples captured October 2, 2026, using demonstration data. Workshop uses real public Steam titles and artwork in an illustrative running selection. The container notice simulates an older installed version. New World, Journey, and restore-review dialogs remain September 16 preview examples. These images do not represent live server tests. Select an image to view full size.

Documentation scope

These pages document container version 3.8.0, checked against released source ba370c7 on October 17, 2026. This includes the current publishing policy: latest follows stable builds and preview follows preview builds; the stable image tag is no longer updated. The WebUI is enabled by default. Since 3.7.3, the template selects settings management from WebUI enablement and no longer requires TMOD_CONFIG_SOURCE; explicit env remains a monitoring-only option. Compose publishes the dashboard for direct LAN access. First startup without an existing admin credential waits for dashboard setup; set TMOD_WEB_ENABLED=0 for unattended game-only startup.

See install without the WebUI and required environment settings for the settings precedence rules and a copyable setup. Screenshots retain their capture-version and test-data labels; the gallery includes 3.8.0 repository examples alongside older captures.

Upgrading an existing deployment? Read Upgrading existing deployments and Image tags and channels. Images and GitHub Releases use matching container-version tags. See the 3.8.0 release for changes and the default runtime channel. The game and native .NET runtime are downloaded into persistent storage on first startup.

Version 3.8.0 adds config-file discovery, reviewed saves, per-file undo, and conflict recovery, optional configuration snapshots in mod profiles, support reports, dashboard help links, and upgrade highlights.

Versions 3.7.4–3.7.5 add reverse-proxy service names and network aliases, quieter sequential dashboard polling, and mod configuration editing up to 4 MiB. Routine player refreshes use tracked state; moderation and tracking fallback still query the game.

Versions 3.7.0–3.7.2 add configurable dashboard ports and revised Compose game-port settings, container health checks, unhealthy-game restart controls, and upstream release-note links. They also fix the server TCP listener lifecycle and prevent stale Workshop messages or completed apply dialogs from interrupting later work.

Version 3.6.0 adds maintenance schedules and restart controls, dashboard themes, and console log retention limits. Use TMOD_MODS for the combined Workshop selection; separate legacy download/enable controls have been removed.

Version 3.5.0 added persistent player history and reviewed address bans, server password changes, and cards for the running Workshop selection.

Recent releases add startup runtime updates and checkpoint recovery, mod configuration editing and Workshop dependency checks, confirmed deletion of unused worlds, and cancellation of saved drafts. Version 3.4.1 adds a separate container-update notice at dashboard login. Container updates still require pulling an image and recreating the container.

Supported container architectures are Linux AMD64 and ARM64. Players need compatible tModLoader versions and mods. Container versions and installed tModLoader versions are separate; see Updates and storage.
