CyberSnap is an all-in-one screen capture and annotation suite for Windows, built to take a capture from first click to finished result without interrupting your workflow. Capture areas, windows, full screens, or scrolling content; record MP4 or GIF; annotate with vector tools; extract and translate text with OCR; and sample on-screen colors. A searchable local gallery, built-in video trimming, and multiple upload destinations make past captures easy to find, refine, and share. Built with .NET 9 and WPF.
Free and open source (GPLv3): no ads, no tracking, and no data collection. Just enjoy it.
Most screenshot tools either do too little or bury features behind a paywall. CyberSnap gives you professional-grade capture, editing, and sharing, including vector tools, high-speed OCR, screen recording, and a color picker, all in a free, open-source package with a polished, modern design.

Download the Inno Setup installer and follow the wizard. The installer registers .csnp file associations, creates shortcuts, and offers to start with Windows.
The installer and the portable zip are enough on their own:
- .NET 9 Desktop Runtime is inside
CyberSnap.exe. Installing .NET separately is only required when you build CyberSnap from source. - FFmpeg is the
ffmpeg.exeplaced next toCyberSnap.exe. MP4 recording, GIF encoding, the video trimmer, and audio waveforms use it. You do not install FFmpeg yourself, and you do not add it toPATH.
If Windows shows "You must install .NET Desktop Runtime to run this application" for CyberSnap.exe, that copy was built without the runtime inside it. dotnet build produces that kind of exe, and so does a publish that omits --self-contained true. On a PC that already has the .NET 9 Desktop Runtime, both copies start, so the missing runtime only shows up on a clean machine. The release build is checked for an embedded runtime before it is packed. Details of the FFmpeg file, its license, and how to replace it are in third-party/ffmpeg/README.md.
Windows may show a SmartScreen warning the first time you run the CyberSnap installer: this is an unsigned hobby app, so Windows hasn't built reputation for the file yet. This is expected; the source is public so you can inspect exactly what it does. The same can appear when launching the portable build.
To continue:
See how to run the installer (step by step)
Windows shows this warning for any installer without a paid code-signing certificate; it does not mean the file is unsafe. Do not click "Don't run":
- Run the installer. Windows may show the blue "Windows protected your PC" dialog.
- Click the small More info link.
- Click Run anyway. The installer starts normally.
You can verify the file independently: compare the SHA with the GitHub release, scan it on VirusTotal, or build from source. More details: SmartScreen guide on the website.
- Platform: Windows 10 (build 19041) or later: x64, x86, ARM64
- Framework: .NET 9 + WPF (PerMonitorV2 high DPI). The installer and the portable zip already include the .NET 9 Desktop Runtime.
- Recording: FFmpeg 9.0.2 essentials (
ffmpeg.exe, with libx264), shipped beside the app. See third-party/ffmpeg/README.md. - Database: SQLite (local history and search index)
- Capture: DirectX via Vortice.Direct2D1 / Vortice.Direct3D11
- OCR: Tesseract
- Barcode: ZXing.Net
- Installer: Inno Setup

Originally forked from OddSnap by jasperdevs. CyberSnap has since been extensively rewritten and expanded by CyberGems.
This project also builds on open-source components including Tesseract OCR, ZXing, SQLite, FFmpeg, x264, and Inno Setup, thanks to their authors and maintainers. The FFmpeg binary shipped with CyberSnap is the GPLv3 essentials build documented in third-party/ffmpeg/README.md.
After countless hours building and refining CyberSnap for my own use, I recently decided to share it with the world along with my other open-source tools in CyberGems.
If youβd like to support future updates, Iβd truly appreciate it. Your donation helps keep development going, roll out new features, speed up updates and bug resolution, and enhance documentation quality. You can also show your support by starring the repo on GitHub. Thank you! π
