Package not downloading from github and seems to be incompatible with new R?

I initially tried downloading the package using

require(devtools)
install_github("Displayr/flipMultivariates")

but I get the error:

HTTP error 403. API rate limit exceeded.

I tried to get a personal access token, but have been unsuccessful at using it. A more detailed bit of example code would be useful for neophytes such as myself.

So, I tried downloading the package manually and installing it via:
install.packages("C:/path/to/flipMultivariates-master.zip")
Which produced the error that:

flipMultivariates-master.zip is not available (for R version 3.5.1)

Any way to address this?

Your first issue is due to an update with the devtools package; see here.

If flipMultivariates-master.zip is the zip file downloaded directly from github, you need to unzip it and then build and install the package. Once you unzipped the files to a folder say flipMultivariates-master,
you can install it using devtools::install("/path/to/flipMultivariates-master"). The old fashioned way from the command line would be unzip flipMultivariates-master.zip && R CMD build flipMultivariates-master && R CMD INSTALL flipMultivariates_*.zip.

I've successfully gotten around the rate limit and managed to install the package from the unzipped folder as per your instructions, but I now get two new errors: After going through several rounds of installing/updating additional packages, I get the following error: installation of package

That again looks like an error from devtools, not flipMultivariates. I can't be of more help without a reproducible example.

The same issues occurred to me even after setting "token". The "Downloading" works well to repos "Displayr/flipAnalysisOfVariance@master" and "Displayr/flipData@master". But downloading repo "Displayr/flipFormat@master" goes into error.

A package (flipChoice) was recently added as Suggested to flipFormat that is not publicly available. The simplest thing to do is install an earlier version of the package before flipChoice was added.

devtools::install_github("Displayr/flipFormat@fdb86b6")

Alternatively, to get the latest version, make sure you have installed all dependencies and use dependencies = FALSE in your call to install_github().

Thanks a lot for your reply. I have successfully installed "flipFormat" package. It is really a solution for this issue. However, it's hard work to install all dependencies for "flipMultivariates" because packages in your repo heavily rely on each other. I have to install packages in a certain order to avoid the error messages asking for "dependencies". Is it possible to make it easier? Or maybe you can provide the correct order for installing these packages?

Have you tried creating a GitHub personal access token in GitHub or using the usethis() package as the error message suggests? Your error has nothing to do with flipMultivariates and is caused by the GitHub API limiting the number of times you can download packages without a personal access token.

Is this issue still open? I tried installing flipMultivariates using the original

as well as
install.packages("C:/path/to/flipMultivariates-master.zip"), and trying the remote option. I am also getting this error:

To increase your GitHub API rate limit

• Use usethis::browse_github_pat() to create a Personal Access Token.

  I've attempted to create a token and modify my r.environ and restarted R, and I still get the same error message. This is the first package I've attempted to install today, and I had the same problem yesterday with this package. I'm running R version 3.6.2.

I really would like to get this package to work as it gives me an output option I haven't been able to find elsewhere.

Did you read the comment directly above yours? This issue has nothing to do flipMultivariates, and is a general issue that can occur with GitHub and devtools::install_github(). GitHub limits the number of times you can try to download things using its API. You need to do what the error message suggests after "To increate your GitHub API rate limit". Alternatively, you can download the flipMultivariates GitHub repo as a .zip file here. You would then need to unzip it and run R CMD build and R CMD INSTALL on the unzipped directory or load it using devtools::load_all().

I am having the same issue. I tried installing a token, which didn't help. Then I tried devtools::load_all() and got this:

The dependencies need to be installed before flipMultivariates can be installed. The packages without a flip or rhtml prefix can be downloaded from CRAN. e.g.
install.packages(c("Ckmeans.1d.dp", "e1071", "keras", "randomForest", "reticulate", "tensorflow", "xgboost"))
The other packages need to be installed from source. This can be achieved with devtools via github.
devtools::install_github(c("rhtmlMoonplot", paste0("flip", c("Statistics", "Regression", "AnalysisOfVariance", "Multivariates"))))

As mentioned earlier, github as an API rate limit and would need an access token to bypass that limit or you'll alternatively need to wait to download the intermediate dependencies.

So I tried the following and it appeared to work:
devtools::install_github("Displayr/rhtmlMoonPlot")
devtools::install_github("Displayr/flipStatistics")
