DevFlow Rules

A unified collection of development rules, engineering standards, and ready-to-use skills for AI coding assistants. Features a comprehensive Project Starter foundation, designed to build consistent web interfaces, keep code minimal and maintainable, and enforce disciplined git workflows.

This repository consolidates a standardized Project Starter template and battle-tested practices from DealTech UI, Vibes-Plug, Ponytail, nyancodeid commit conventions, and Humanize Pro into a single, unified ruleset.

Quick Installation via CLI

You can install DevFlow rules into your project using your preferred package runner or shell script.

1. Using NPX (Node.js)

Run interactively in your project root:

npx github:Emzyjeppp/devflow-rules init

Or target a specific AI assistant directly:

# Cursor (.cursorrules & .cursor/rules/devflow.mdc)
npx github:Emzyjeppp/devflow-rules init --target=cursor

# Windsurf (.windsurfrules)
npx github:Emzyjeppp/devflow-rules init --target=windsurf

# Claude Code (CLAUDE.md)
npx github:Emzyjeppp/devflow-rules init --target=claude

# GitHub Copilot (.github/copilot-instructions.md)
npx github:Emzyjeppp/devflow-rules init --target=copilot

# Cline / Roo-Code (.clinerules)
npx github:Emzyjeppp/devflow-rules init --target=cline

# All supported assistants at once
npx github:Emzyjeppp/devflow-rules init --all

2. Using Shell Script (Linux / macOS / WSL)

# Default (Cursor)
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Emzyjeppp/devflow-rules/main/install.sh | bash

# Specific target (e.g., windsurf, claude, copilot, cline, all)
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Emzyjeppp/devflow-rules/main/install.sh | bash -s -- all

3. Using PowerShell (Windows)

# Default (Cursor)
irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Emzyjeppp/devflow-rules/main/install.ps1 | iex

# Specific target
& ([scriptblock]::Create((irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Emzyjeppp/devflow-rules/main/install.ps1))) -Target all

Core Principles

  1. Project Starter Foundation: Standardize new web applications by utilizing a complete suite of predefined template documents (PRD, Architecture, Rules) before writing code.
  2. Concrete UI Components: Adopt clear component hierarchies (elements, sections, pages) and adapt them to project-specific architectures.
  3. Phase-Driven Progression: Orchestrate development across an 8-phase workflow from PRD specification to production release.
  4. Lean Solutions (YAGNI): Prioritize standard library functions and native platform capabilities before adding external dependencies.
  5. Structured Commit Messages: Maintain conventional semantic commit formats with standard types, scopes, subjects, and clear change descriptions.
  6. Natural and Factual Language: Eliminate artificial AI writing clichés and maintain precise, active, and factual technical communication.
  7. Zero-Emoji Discipline: Avoid emojis and decorative symbols in code, user interfaces, commit messages, and documentation.

Building a New Feature

Apply the guidelines in RULES.md. Build a responsive user data table component with search filtering and pagination using Tailwind CSS. Follow ponytail-lean principles to keep the code minimal and no-emoji for all UI states.

Composing a Commit Message

Based on the current git diff, generate a commit message following skills/commit-nyancodeid/SKILL.md. Ensure proper type, scope, character limit, and no emojis.

Polishing UI Copy

Review the modal confirmation messages in this file according to skills/humanize-writing/SKILL.md. Make the text concise, direct, action-oriented, and free of em dashes or artificial filler words.
