Naming & docs/doctests

[virtualritz]

• Removed get_ prefix from getters.
• Various naming fixes related to that.
• Minimized use of abbreviations (i.e. making the API easier to use for non-native speakers).
• Doc fixes (cosmetic).
• Made docstests compile (but not succeed).

This addresses #2.
