How it works

1. Create your account — email or Google sign-in, ready in under a minute.
2. Start a group — a trip, a flat, or a one-off dinner; unlimited groups, each with its own chat.
3. Invite friends — share a link or invite code; they auto-join after signing in.
4. Log expenses — type it in two taps, or let the AI receipt scanner do it for you.
5. Split it your way — equal, percentage, shares, or exact amounts; balances are netted automatically.
6. Settle up — one tap routes the fewest possible UPI payments and zeroes the ledger.

Getting started

Prerequisites

• Node.js 20+ and npm
• Expo CLI (npx expo)
• A Firebase project (Auth + Cloud Messaging) and Google OAuth client IDs
• Xcode (for iOS) and/or Android Studio (for Android) if you plan to run native builds

Installation

Environment variables

Copy the templates and fill in your own Firebase and Google OAuth credentials:

These files are git-ignored — never commit them. See .env.example for every variable. The app also needs a compatible backend API (EXPO_PUBLIC_API_URL); UI-only contributions don't require one.

Run it

SplitEase ships via EAS Build and EAS Submit:

The Android app is live today on Google Play under package com.kunal.splitapp. iOS builds run on the same Expo codebase and are distributed via TestFlight ahead of an App Store release.
