fix(server): stop healthz waiting on Parakeet when the default model is best - #453
A server that only has best pulled answers /healthz with models_ready: false forever, although server.default_model is best and every job it gets runs and finishes. The field followed the live recognizer, which needs Parakeet, so anything that waits on models_ready (a monitor, a client, a compose depends_on) waited on a model the server never uses.
Fix
models_ready now asks the job queue whether a job that names no model has everything it loads on disk: the recognizer server.default_model (or auto) resolves to, its runtime and helpers, and the speaker models when server.default_diarize is on. Nothing may be loading at the same time. The new JobService.defaultOnDisk uses the same needs and missing the queue uses before it runs a job, so the health check and the queue agree on what a job needs. This applies in server mode and in the app, which also has a job queue. Without a queue, the old rule stays.
A recognizer whose files are on disk can still be unusable: when the live recognizer tried to load Parakeet and failed, a default job on Parakeet (fast, or auto resolving to it) would hit the same failure. Its files then do not count, so models_ready is false unless a remote takes the job. A server that has no Parakeet at all, and only waits for it, is not a failed load and stays ready on best.
GET /v1/server keeps its own per-preset availability, so fast still shows unavailable on a server that has no Parakeet.
The healthz doc string, the route's comment, docs/server.md and SV-P4 in docs/ux/SERVER.md now say what the field waits for. /healthz is not in docs/api/openapi.json, so regenerating it changed nothing.
Evidence
New tests in tests/models-on-demand.e2e.test.ts, under [SV-P4] #449:
a server with only its default recognizer and helpers on disk (live recognizer missing) answers models_ready: true, while /v1/server still reports fast unavailable; switching the default to the missing recognizer makes it false
the speaker model counts only once server.default_diarize is on
the live recognizer on disk does not make a server ready when its default is missing, and switching the default to the model that is on disk makes it ready
a server whose default is the live recognizer's model, files on disk, and whose live recognizer load failed answers models_ready: false; the same rig with a load that succeeds answers true. With the failed-load check removed, this test fails (ready: true).
With src/main/api/routes/server.ts reverted to main, the first three fail. With the fix they pass, and so do server-mode.e2e, stalled-jobs.e2e, the rest of models-on-demand.e2e and the wyoming tests (97 pass, 0 fail).
Health status now reflects whether the models required for the configured default job are available, including speaker models when default diarization is enabled. With no job queue, readiness still depends on the recognizer.
Readiness no longer requires a live recognizer when the default job can run with installed models or an available remote. Loading and stalled-job conditions continue to affect health status.
Documentation
Clarified /healthz readiness criteria, including default model, diarization, and remote availability.
…n disk
/healthz's models_ready followed the live recognizer, so a server with
only best pulled reported false forever although every job ran. It now
asks the job queue whether a job that names no model has everything it
loads on disk (server.default_model or auto, its helpers, the speaker
models when server.default_diarize is on) and nothing is loading. The
503 while models download or load and the stalled-job 503 are unchanged,
and GET /v1/server keeps its own per-preset availability.

/healthz now reports model readiness based on the models required by the default job when a queue exists. The check includes helper and applicable speaker models, and requires that no model is loading or has failed. Without a queue, readiness follows recognizer readiness.

Summary
Default-job model readiness src/main/api/server.ts, src/main/index.ts, src/main/server/jobs.ts, src/main/api/routes/server.ts
The API exposes whether the recognizer failed to load. JobService.defaultOnDisk checks local model availability and remote routing. The health route uses this check when a queue exists and recognizer readiness otherwise.
Readiness scenarios and documentation tests/fixtures/asr-fake.ts, tests/models-on-demand.e2e.test.ts, tests/remote-dispatch.e2e.test.ts, docs/server.md, docs/ux/SERVER.md
End-to-end tests cover default-model changes, diarization requirements, recognizer load failures, and remote availability. The fake ASR fixture can simulate model creation failure. The documentation describes the readiness conditions.
GeiserX/akou#428: Both PRs update /healthz behavior. This PR changes models_ready and preserves the stalled-job condition.<!-- fixed_issue_severity>Medium</fixed_issue_severity>

Explanation
[#449] Requires models_ready to be true once the default model's files are on disk and loadable, or to name the models it waits for. In src/main/api/routes/server.ts, jobModelsReady returns !state.loading && jobs.defaultOnDisk(diarize, broken) when a job queue exists. JobService.defaultOnDisk in src/main/server/jobs.ts resolves the default through choose({}), then checks shelf.missing(shelf.needs(model, { diarize })), so speaker models count only when server.default_diarize is on. A recognizer whose load failed (recognizerFailed()) is excluded through broken. Without a queue, the old recognizer-readiness rule remains. The 503 conditions and the stalled-job rule in the route are unchanged. The PR body cites new [SV-P4] #449 end-to-end tests covering the default-only, diarization, and default-switch cases; I did not run them. The remote branch in defaultOnDisk adds a further readiness path, but it does not contradict the issue's on-disk requirement. Scope of that branch is assessed separately.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The core changes stay within #449: the route logic, defaultOnDisk, recognizerFailed (src/main/api/server.ts, src/main/index.ts), the createFails fixture option, the docs, and the SV-P4 tests all support the readiness rule. One part is not described in the PR body. defaultOnDisk also returns true when an up remote takes the default job (remotes.configured(), remotes.pick(...), remoteChoice), even when no local model is on disk. The PR body says only that the check uses the queue's needs and missing. The issue asks for on-disk readiness and does not mention remotes. The remote branch is connected to the queue's routing, so it is not demonstrably unrelated. Its intended behavior is not confirmed by the issue or the PR body. The new remote-dispatch tests in tests/remote-dispatch.e2e.test.ts cover this path, and their results were not verified here.
Resolution
Confirm whether models_ready should report true for a remote-served default when no local model is on disk. If yes, add that rule to the PR body and to #449 so the scope is recorded. If no, remove the remote branch from defaultOnDisk and the matching remote-dispatch [SV-P4] #449 test cases, then rerun the affected tests.

A server that sends its default jobs to a remote (section 14) needs no local
model for them, as the queue already treats them. models_ready now answers
true while an up remote takes the default, and false again once it is gone.
…d to load the default's model
A server whose default runs Parakeet, with the files on disk but a live
recognizer load that failed, answered models_ready true while every
default job hits that same failure. The files of a recognizer that cannot
load no longer count; a remote can still take the job.

With overflow on, a default job whose listed remote is full runs here, so
models_ready must look at this disk and the live recognizer, as routeOf does.
