fix: partial-failure warning must not claim Redis retention without Redis - #59
Conversation
…ithout Redis The events/metrics flush failure warning hardcoded "requeued in memory and retained in Redis for retry". The buffer only persists to Redis when a Redis handler was attached via initialize_redis (guard-core wires it only when enable_redis is set); without Redis, unsent items live solely in the in-memory buffer, and the message confused a customer who does not use Redis. Describe retention dynamically from buffer.redis_handler and cover both branches with tests.

Base Redis retention on the drained keys.
After Redis initialization, either persistence helper can catch a failed Redis write and return None. The item remains in memory without a Redis key, but the warning still claims Redis retention because the handler is attached. Pass the drained keys to the retention helpers and add the Redis text only when every item has a non-empty key.

Add a regression test for the metric warning.
The new tests exercise only _flush_events(). _flush_metrics() has a separate failure branch and warning call. A regression that restores the Redis wording only for metrics would pass the current tests and misstate where failed metrics are retained.
Add one no-Redis metric test that calls _flush_metrics(), uses send_metrics(False), and asserts "requeued in memory (metrics) for retry" without "retained in Redis".

Closes #58
Corrects the flush loop's partial-failure warning when no Redis backend is configured: the message claimed items remain retained in Redis, misleading operators during incidents. Adds regression tests.
