Summary

This is slice 1 of #2. It removes monorepo residue from docs and code comments only, with no behaviour change.

  • Item 1: .github/workflows/README.md is rewritten for this repo's four workflows, down from 686 lines of monorepo deploy docs to about 50. Each claim was checked against the YAML: triggers, jobs, the ci-success membership, snyk's continue-on-error, the release job order, and the Makefile targets for local runs.
  • Item 5: CONTRIBUTING's bug-report bullet no longer asks for ./cudly --version. bin/cudly-mcp has no version flag (the version is set by ldflags), so the bullet asks for the release tag or git rev-parse --short HEAD.
  • Item 4: comments now point at real root-relative paths: mcp/... becomes tools/... or server.go. Citations of the CLI's cmd/main.go and of monorepo planning notes (docs/plans/mcp/*, 00-scope.md) now name the CLI repo or are dropped. This covers server.go, server_test.go, cmd/cudly-mcp/main.go, tools/ (enums, registry, list_commitment_actions, aws_savingsplans, azure_compute_ri and its test) and docs/mcp-annotations-decisions.md.

Deliberately left for later #2 slices:

Verification (local, macOS)

  • Every Go hunk is inside a // comment.
  • gofmt -l . is empty, and go build ./... and go vet ./... pass (both with GOTOOLCHAIN=go1.26.9).
  • markdownlint with the repo config passes on the changed .md files.
  • No em-dashes were added, and the pre-commit hooks pass.
  • A grep for mcp/(tools|cmd|server)|cmd/main\.go|docs/plans/mcp|00-scope\.md now hits only the two files excluded above, plus CLAUDE.md and CHANGELOG.md.

Review

An independent non-author reviewer (Sonnet, high effort) did two passes. It checked every README claim against the workflow YAML with file:line references. It also confirmed that each repointed path exists, that the comments are still true of their code, and that no hunk is a non-comment Go change.

Pass 1 found three low-severity issues, all fixed:

  • the coverage gate was overstated (it only warns);
  • some stale paths remained in registry.go and list_commitment_actions.go;
  • one paragraph was hard to read.

Pass 2 found no actionable findings at the exact staged tree a7bc7e8. CodeRabbit was not pinged because the org's CR quota is exhausted.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Updated workflow guidance covering CI checks, release steps, security scanning, and local validation.
    • Clarified bug reports should include the server’s release tag or, for source builds, its short Git commit hash.
    • Refreshed descriptions and references for the CUDly MCP server and its search and purchase tools.
    • No changes to runtime behavior.

The workflows README described the monorepo's Lambda, Fargate, Cloud
Run and Azure deploy pipelines. Rewrite it for this repository's four
workflows (ci, pre-commit, mcp-server-json, release), with each claim
taken from the YAML.

CONTRIBUTING asked bug reporters for `./cudly --version`. This binary
has no version flag, so ask for the release tag or commit instead.

Comments in server.go, cmd/cudly-mcp/main.go, tools/ and
docs/mcp-annotations-decisions.md cited mcp/... paths, the CLI's
cmd/main.go and monorepo planning notes. Point them at root-relative
paths, or drop citations to files that do not exist here. Comments
only, no behaviour change.

📝 Walkthrough

The workflow README now documents the MCP server’s CI and release workflows. Contributor guidance, command descriptions, documentation, and code comments also use updated version and repository path references.

Include the workflow file in the trigger list.

The pull_request.paths trigger also includes .github/workflows/mcp-server-json.yml. Add this path so the table lists the actual triggers.

Merge-driver verdict: CLEAN at 41b44bbc6c34c6105035ba341c6a85745fd0f439

An independent adversarial reviewer (Sonnet, high effort, cold brief, not the author) reviewed the full diff. It found no findings, blocking or otherwise.

Local verification (real, macOS, GOTOOLCHAIN=go1.26.9):

  • No behaviour change. Every added or removed line in the 8 Go files is a // comment, and no tool description string changed.
    • go build ./... and go vet ./... pass.
    • go test -count=1 ./... passes: 809 tests.
  • Workflow README checked against the YAML. All claims hold, including:
    • triggers for all 4 workflows;
    • the ci-success needs list (ci.yml:541-547, with snyk correctly excluded);
    • snyk's fork skip and continue-on-error;
    • the coverage warn-only check;
    • the release order consistency-gate, test, goreleaser, mcpb, publish-registry;
    • the Makefile targets.
  • Paths: every referenced file exists, and references to the CLI repo say so.
  • CONTRIBUTING: bin/cudly-mcp has no flag parsing, and its version comes from ldflags only.
  • Lint: markdownlint passes with the repo config, and no em-dashes were added.
