Shadow Distance Issues

[LeEpic69]

Depending on where you're standing, shadows are either missing or a lot less detailed. Once you get closer, the shadows display as they should. I tried most settings, but nothing fixed it.

Thanks for the two shots, the Red Room is a good place to see it. What you're looking at is the game's sun-shadow system: it renders a few shadow cascades per frame and only puts characters that are close to the camera into them, so the twins and the chairs get a shadow when you walk up and lose it a few steps back. I've looked at the shadow passes from this scene in a frame dump and only the near cascades carry any casters, which is consistent with the original game's very short shadow range rather than something the runtime drops. I say "consistent with", not "confirmed": I still need to compare it against a console or Xenia frame of the same spot to be sure nothing is lost on our side, and that comparison is on my list right after this release. If it turns out to be the original behaviour, the fix is a patch to the game's cascade distances, which is doable, just not something I want to promise before seeing the comparison. Leaving this open until then.
