Adds an official pack catalog: a hosted index at glowup.khimani.dev/packs.json that glowup fetches, caches and installs packs from by name.

What changes

  • /glowup pack <name> installs an official pack the first time it is used. Every downloaded file passes the same checks as /glowup pack <url> and /glowup theme add <url> before anything is written, and a refused install writes nothing.
  • /glowup pack list shows official packs next to built-in and installed ones. /glowup pack update fetches them again and skips files you changed or deleted.
  • At session start glowup reads its version, refreshes the index at most once a day, and installs a configured official pack in the background. That covers a pack set through /plugin or the installer. A failed refresh shows nothing.
  • The config pane lists official packs. Cycling to one never downloads it; the Install button does.
  • The installer lists official packs and offers them only to a glowup new enough to set them.
  • The index starts with oxide and oxide-paper, from NovusEdge/glowup-oxide. A check in pnpm test validates docs/web/public/packs.json.
  • Docs (packs.md, commands.md, install.md) and CHANGELOG.

The studio does not show official packs yet.

Known follow-ups

  • pack update uses an index up to 24 h old.
  • A failure in a -p run is not shown in the next interactive session.
  • A misspelled configured pack name refetches the index at every session start.
  • The Pack button in the config pane may lose focus when Install appears. This has not been checked against the engine.

Testing

just ci passes on the merge with main (#32 included).

Not yet run live:

  • /glowup pack oxide on a clean machine
  • an offline pick from the cache
  • a fresh installer run with oxide
  • an installer re-run with oxide on an existing install

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Browse and install official packs from the installer or configuration pane. Use /glowup pack update to refresh installed packs; locally edited files are protected from replacement.
    • Choose four additional animated spinner styles: scanline, ring, glitch, and signal.
    • Select the new slab row style, with numbered prompts and tool activity.
  • Documentation
    • Updated command, installer, pack, and settings guides with the new options and behaviors.

Walkthrough

This change adds official-pack catalog support to the installer and plugin, including pack installation and updates. It also adds four spinner styles and the slab row style, with related rendering, configuration, and validation changes.

Changes

Official Pack Catalog and Installation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Catalog discovery and installer selection
.claude-plugin/plugin.json, .docket/ledger.jsonl, docs/web/public/packs.json, installer/internal/packs/*, installer/internal/claude/*, installer/internal/cli/*, installer/internal/tui/*
The installer recognizes catalog packs, accepts them as pack choices, and displays their names and descriptions in the picker. Catalog packs skip the customization steps.
Catalog validation and installation
hooks/catalog.ts, hooks/userpacks.ts, hooks/userthemes.ts, test/catalog.test.ts, test/catalog-index.check.ts, package.json
Catalog parsing checks entry fields and limits. Installation validates the downloaded pack and themes before writing files, and records installed-file hashes. Tests cover parsing, compatibility, caching, and installation outcomes.
Pack commands and config-pane installation
hooks/command.ts, hooks/configpane.tsx, hooks/configrows.ts, hooks/help.ts, docs/commands.md, docs/packs.md, docs/install.md, CHANGELOG.md, test/command.test.ts, test/configpane*.test.ts, test/configrows.test.ts
Pack commands list and install catalog packs, support --force, and update recorded packs. The config pane displays official packs as not installed and provides an Install button.
Startup and deferred pack installation
hooks/host.ts, hooks/pluginsync.ts, hooks/register.tsx, test/catalog-wiring.test.ts, test/pluginsync-wiring.test.ts
Session startup loads the Glowup version and catalog. Configured and plugin-selected packs can install in the background; interactive sessions refresh the catalog on a daily interval.

Spinner and Row Styles

Layer / File(s) Summary
Spinner rendering and exported frames
hooks/motion.ts, hooks/spinner.ts, hooks/packexport.ts, hooks/packs.ts, docs/commands.md, docs/install.md, docs/pack-reference.md, skills/glowup-pack/reference.md, docs/web/app/landing/SpinnersSection.tsx, installer/internal/packs/packs_test.go, test/motion.test.ts, test/packexport.test.ts, test/packs.test.ts, test/spinner.test.ts
The spinner library adds scanline, ring, glitch, and signal. Spinner rendering passes timing and state to word effects, and exported frames use configured periods.
Slab rows and numbering
hooks/rows-text.ts, hooks/rows.tsx, hooks/turns.ts, hooks/register.tsx, docs/pack-reference.md, skills/glowup-pack/reference.md, test/rows.test.ts, test/turns.test.ts, test/engine-tree.test.ts
The slab style adds prompt bars, tool labels, status marks, and reply dividers. Shared turn tracking assigns prompt numbers and per-turn tool sequence numbers.

With an older Glowup installed, the installer can report that an official pack such as oxide was set while Glowup actually shows the classic look. Fix the official-pack support check before merging. The other findings are minor polish issues.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Treat the catalog cache write as best-effort.

refreshCatalog awaits host.writeFile without a handler. If the write fails (for example with EACCES), the function rejects. A successful fetch then returns no entries. installConfigured calls refreshCatalog(host).catch(() => undefined), so a cache write failure discards fresh entries that were fetched and are valid. Catch the write error and return parsed.entries.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Make the scanline checker repeat with the exported cycle.

The checker uses Math.floor(tMs / 400), but hooks/packexport.ts loops scanline frames every 1,305 ms. At the wrap, the checker changes parity and all ten checker glyphs switch at once. Derive the checker phase from the sweep cycle so the exported preview repeats without this full-bar change.

Record expanded own prompts before numbering their tools.

An own prompt can first render expanded in --verbose mode. The current handler skips turnFor for that prompt, so its following tools continue the previous turn's sequence. After two prior tools, the first tool can receive sequence 3.

Record the turn for every own prompt, but pass it to styleRow only for compact prompts.

Suggested fix
     const own = p.origin.kind === 'composer' && !p.from && !p.task
     const els = $.ui.resolve(e)
-    const styled = styleRow(els, look, { site: 'UserMessage', text: p.text, isExpanded: p.isExpanded, own, turn: own && !p.isExpanded ? turns.turnFor(e.requestId) : undefined }, row) as RenderElement
+    const turn = own ? turns.turnFor(e.requestId) : undefined
+    const styled = styleRow(els, look, { site: 'UserMessage', text: p.text, isExpanded: p.isExpanded, own, turn: own && !p.isExpanded ? turn : undefined }, row) as RenderElement

Add a regression test for an expanded prompt followed by its first tool.

Require positive evidence of official-pack support.

If an older Glowup reports pack:{} without a description, Declared adds pack=official. Restrict then keeps oxide, although the older pack option falls back to classic for an unknown name. The installer reports a successful settings update without applying the selected pack. Add the sentinel only when the description names official packs. Update the “no text” expectation in installer/internal/claude/plan_test.go accordingly.

Gate catalog packs on the fresh-install path too.

If the marketplace installs an older Glowup, this validation accepts oxide, and the fresh-install plan sends pack=oxide through plugin install --config before Declared runs. The existing Restrict check applies only to later configure steps, so the selected pack can fall back to classic. Defer setting a catalog pack until the installed version has declared support, and report when that version cannot set it. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
