Summary

  • bump runtime, local-build, and hosted-build defaults to 1.2.1
  • add a privacy-safe compatibility report for working and failed Apple hardware setups
  • invite beta compatibility reports from the README
  • remove the stale fixed version example from the bug-report form

Purpose

This is release and adoption work. It deliberately changes no keyboard, trackpad, brightness, battery, tray, autostart, configuration, diagnostics, or removal behavior.

Test evidence

RED

  • target release identity test failed with 1.2.0 != 1.2.1
  • compatibility-form test failed because the form did not exist
  • README feedback-link test failed because no testing section existed
  • version-neutral bug-form test failed on the stale 1.2.0 placeholder

GREEN

  • 263 tests discovered and run
  • 0 failures
  • 0 errors
  • 0 skipped
  • source byte compilation passed
  • all seven GitHub YAML files parsed
  • actionlint 1.7.12 passed using the official Windows binary after SHA-256 verification
  • zizmor 1.30.1 reported no findings
  • git diff --check passed

Packaging evidence

An isolated local PyInstaller smoke build completed without replacing the running accepted app:

  • ProductName: Pearipherals
  • ProductVersion / FileVersion: 1.2.1
  • OriginalFilename: Pearipherals.exe
  • Machine: x64 (0x8664)
  • Subsystem: Windows GUI
  • Authenticode: NotSigned
  • PE certificate table: empty
  • required Pearipherals and pystray modules: present
  • Defender custom scan: completed with zero matching detections

The public beta artifact will be rebuilt by the GitHub-hosted release workflow after merge. This local artifact is not for publication.

Risk and rollback

Release risk is limited to version identity, documentation, and issue-form configuration. No runtime behavior changed beyond the version constant. Roll back this commit before publishing if CI or hosted-build verification fails.

Manual hardware scope

The existing accepted runtime continues to run from the previous build. The hosted 1.2.1 artifact still requires the short release smoke check before publication.

Security and privacy

  • no telemetry or network behavior added
  • compatibility form warns against serial numbers, Bluetooth addresses, identifiers, raw HID data, logs, configs, registry exports, paths, and credentials
  • no Windows security bypass guidance
  • .hermes, builds, executables, logs, probes, and diagnostics remain ignored and untracked

Release impact

Prepares the source for the explicitly unsigned v1.2.1-unsigned prerelease. It does not create a tag or release by itself.
