Problem

The catalog (#88) started with 21 products. A product that is not in it is registered by typing the name NVD or the CVE records use, which is the problem the catalog exists to remove.

Changes

25 more entries, so the catalog lists 46 products:

Category Added
network pfSense, OPNsense, OpenVPN, strongSwan, Aruba ArubaOS-CX
middleware Citrix XenServer, Envoy Proxy, HAProxy, Traefik, Eclipse Jetty, Node.js, Kubernetes
database MariaDB, Redis, Couchbase Server
devops JetBrains TeamCity, JFrog Artifactory, Sonatype Nexus Repository, HashiCorp Vault, Checkmk, SolarWinds Orion Platform
application Atlassian Jira, Trend Micro Apex One, McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator, Veeam Backup & Replication

They were chosen by how many CVEs NVD files against the product and by whether people register it by hand (there is no usage data to go on). Products with a vendor-advisory fetcher stay out, as before.

  • A product NVD files under several names or vendors is one entry: pfSense (netgate and pfsense, and the Community and Plus editions), Apex One (with its earlier name OfficeScan), Jira (jira, jira_server, jira_data_center, jira_server_and_data_center).
  • Other products are left out: OpenVPN Connect, OpenVPN Access Server, Redis Software, redis-py, HAProxy Enterprise, Traefik Enterprise, plug-ins, SDKs, agents and add-on packages. A wrong pair here would mean false positives, a missing one a missed detection, and the second is found by validate:catalog.
  • Nine entries have no CVE-record (CNA) rows in the database, so they search NVD only: pfSense, ArubaOS-CX, XenServer, Envoy, Kubernetes, Couchbase, SolarWinds Orion, Apex One and ePolicy Orchestrator. Jira has only Data Center sub-products there (Jira Service Management ...), so none is listed.
  • Veeam's NVD product keeps the escaped ampersand: veeam_backup_\&_replication.

No other code changes.

Not decided

The validator still lists NVD products named like a listed one that are not covered. Most are other products, but a few might be the same (as in #88): watchguard:fireware_xtm, samba:samba_server, ibm:websphere_application_server_feature_pack_for_web_services, the Elastic X-Pack names, trendmicro:officescan_xg and apex_one_as_a_service, atlassian:jira_core.

Test plan

  • vitest (741), tsc --noEmit, eslint
  • pnpm build && pnpm validate:catalog against the development database: all 46 entries match data, 24 warnings
  • Searching by a new name finds results: Veeam Backup & Replication 51, pfSense 77, Trend Micro Apex One 212, Atlassian Jira 196, Eclipse Jetty 11.0.0 30
  • After deploy, run pnpm validate:catalog against the real database

The catalog now lists 46 products. The new ones are network software
(pfSense, OPNsense, OpenVPN, strongSwan, ArubaOS-CX), middleware and
platforms (XenServer, Envoy, HAProxy, Traefik, Jetty, Node.js,
Kubernetes), databases (MariaDB, Redis, Couchbase), DevOps and
monitoring tools (TeamCity, Artifactory, Nexus Repository, Vault,
Checkmk, SolarWinds Orion) and applications (Jira, Apex One, ePolicy
Orchestrator, Veeam Backup & Replication).

Each lists the exact pairs the data uses, checked against the database
with validate:catalog. A product NVD files under several names or
vendors is one entry: pfSense (Netgate and the project, with its
Community and Plus editions), Apex One with its earlier name OfficeScan,
Jira with its Server and Data Center names. Clients, SDKs, add-ons,
agents and the commercial editions of a free product (Redis Software,
HAProxy Enterprise, Traefik Enterprise) are other products and are left
out.
