chore: rebrand user-facing gitlawb references to Twigpine - #520
Rebrands every user-facing "gitlawb" / "Gitlawb" mention to Twigpine across docs, README, CLI help and output, MCP tool descriptions, installers, npm metadata, macOS app strings, license headers and GitHub links. Protocol and operator identifiers are left alone on purpose and need a separate migration PR (listed below).
Motivation & context
The GitHub org is now Twigpine (Gitlawb/* redirects to Twigpine/*) and the website and public nodes are live on twigpine.com, but the repo still presents itself as Gitlawb. This PR changes branding only, so it is safe to merge without coordinating a network upgrade.
Product name: README, CONTRIBUTING, SECURITY, AGENTS-adjacent docs, docs/, infra/ READMEs and comments, .env.example, issue and PR templates, Cargo description/authors, LICENSE copyright lines, npm package descriptions and README, install.sh/install.ps1 messages, macOS app display strings (Info.plist, window and menu titles, APP_NAME), CLI about/help text and printed messages, MCP tool descriptions, node startup banner.
GitHub links:github.com/Gitlawb/* now points to github.com/Twigpine/*. This includes GITLAWB_RELEASE_REPO defaults in the installers and gl doctor's latest-release lookup.
Container image: pull instructions in docs/RUN-A-NODE.md, the OSS readiness audit, the macOS app's generated compose, and the infra/awsimage_repo default (plus infra/README.md, infra/aws/README.md, terraform.tfvars.example) now use ghcr.io/twigpine/node, the path release.yml publishes to (ghcr.io/${GITHUB_REPOSITORY,,}). ghcr.io/twigpine/node serves tags through 0.7.1 and latest; ghcr.io/gitlawb/node no longer resolves for anonymous pulls.
Release workflow:github.repository == 'Gitlawb/node' is now 'Twigpine/node'. Since the org rename this guard no longer matches, so the release-please and publish jobs were being skipped. The Homebrew tap and web sync targets now point to Twigpine/homebrew-tap and Twigpine/web.
Hostnames:gitlawb.com, node.gitlawb.com, node2., node3. are now the matching twigpine.com hosts in client defaults (gl --node default, gl doctor/quickstart), install one-liners, auth hint links and docs. I checked each one: same Fly apps, valid TLS, and /install.sh, /install.ps1, /install-checksums.txt and /agents all return 200. gitlawb.com/agents already 308-redirects to twigpine.com/agents.
macOS app compose regeneration:Config.repoPath used to fall back to the app's data directory when there was no repo clone, so DockerCompose treated its own generated docker-compose.yml as a repo file and never regenerated it after first launch. Upgraded installs would have kept ghcr.io/gitlawb/node. repoPath now returns nil without a clone. The app generates its compose file on first use. If the file already exists, the app keeps it, because operators edit it to pass settings the generated environment block omits (e.g. GITLAWB_OPERATOR_STRICT_MODE), and only rewrites ghcr.io/gitlawb/node references to ghcr.io/twigpine/node, keeping tags and digests. The project directory and named volumes are unchanged.
AWS image default, existing deployments:terraform apply only updates the upgrade SSM document in place (aws_instance ignores user_data drift). The new image is pulled on the next upgrade_command. Operators who set image_repo explicitly are unaffected.
cargo fmt reflowed about 79 #[arg(long, default_value = "https://node.twigpine.com", env = "GITLAWB_NODE")] attributes, because the new host is one character longer.

Run locally on tree c1b6958 (head 421ae90, which merges main at c301a68):
cargo test --locked --workspace against Postgres 17: 1424 passed, 2 failed, 15 ignored. The 2 failures are timing tests unrelated to this PR (git::store::...content_stage_timeout..., test_support::...sweep_backs_off...); both pass 3/3 run alone. The p2p key-file tests from fix(node): persist the libp2p identity instead of deriving it from the node DID #324 need a TMPDIR with no group-writable ancestor (their ancestor permission check requires this).
cargo +1.91 check --workspace --all-targets (MSRV): ok
scripts/check-gitlawb-core-deps.sh, scripts/check-release-versioning.sh, scripts/test-resolve-release-tag.sh: ok
Not run locally, left to CI: release build, Docker build, cargo audit, Swift build (macOS)
Follow-up commits (f837d63, e04efe4, c9a86c1, 0924226, b2d519e; no Rust changes): terraform fmt -check and terraform validate pass on infra/aws, and the rendered compose uses image: ghcr.io/twigpine/node:latest. Built Config.swift/DockerCompose.swift with Swift 6.0 on Linux and ran a harness that seeds an old generated compose with ghcr.io/gitlawb/node and no repo clone: on 421ae90 the stale image is kept, and on b2d519e only complete image references are migrated: a customized GITLAWB_OPERATOR_STRICT_MODE line, a pinned tag, an unrelated ghcr.io/gitlawb/node-exporter image and a mirrored registry.example.com/ghcr.io/gitlawb/node reference are preserved, a repeat run is a no-op, and a fresh install still gets the generated file. A repo checkout still uses its own compose. The full macOS app build is left to CI (Analyze (swift)).

Notes for reviewers
Please confirm before merging:
SECURITY.md now says to report to security@twigpine.com. twigpine.com has Proton MX records, but I couldn't check that this alias delivers.
The macOS app bundle is now built as Twigpine Node.app. The DMG file name (GitlawbNode-macOS.dmg) is unchanged, and the README now lists it under that name.
Follow-up PR needed: migrating internal identifiers. These were deliberately left as gitlawb. Renaming any of them breaks compatibility with deployed nodes, clients, identities or operator configs, so each needs a compatibility plan (and, per CONTRIBUTING, an issue first for the protocol items):
iCaptcha:icaptcha.gitlawb.com default solver URL. It's used in advert and key-trust matching between nodes and clients, and live-proof fixtures depend on it.
Infra resource attributes:aws_security_group.node keeps its gitlawb node: ... description. The AWS provider treats description as ForceNew, so changing it would replace the in-use group on the next apply.
Peer network:bootstrap-peers.jsonhttp_urls and the Fly/AWS GITLAWB_PUBLIC_URL/GITLAWB_BOOTSTRAP_PEERS values. Self-loop pruning is URL-based (prune_self_peers(public_url)), so the seed list and each node's public URL must change together in one coordinated deploy.
Operator config: ~100 GITLAWB_* env vars (needs TWIGPINE_* with fallback), ~/.gitlawb paths, Docker gitlawb user, Postgres db/user gitlawb, Prometheus gitlawb_* metric names, Windows install dir.
Names and packages: crates (gitlawb-core, gitlawb-node, gitlawb-attest, git-remote-gitlawb), binaries, Rust symbols, @gitlawb/* npm scope, Homebrew formula, release asset names, the gitlawb git remote name created by gl init, macOS GitlawbNode target and bundle ID, Fly app names.
Not ours to rename:$GITLAWB token ticker and contract names (GitlawbNodeStaking, GitlawbNameRegistry); docs.gitlawb.com and manila.gitlawb.com, which have no twigpine.com equivalent yet; CHANGELOG history.
Updated Twigpine branding, website and repository links, and security contact information across project guides, CLI help, installers, and the desktop app.
Updates
CLI commands now use Twigpine node and repository destinations by default; existing environment-variable overrides remain available.
Installer downloads, release publishing, and documented container images now use Twigpine destinations.
Bug Fixes
The desktop app now uses a repository Compose file when available and otherwise uses its data-directory Compose file.
Rename the product name in docs, README, CLI help/output, MCP tool
descriptions, macOS app strings, installers, npm metadata and license
headers from gitlawb/Gitlawb to Twigpine. Point GitHub links at the
renamed Twigpine org (and fix the release workflow's repository guard,
which still matched Gitlawb/node), and switch the public node hosts and
website/install URLs to twigpine.com.
Protocol and operator identifiers are intentionally unchanged
(did:gitlawb, gitlawb://, signing domains, GITLAWB_* env vars, crate
and binary names, X-Gitlawb-* headers, icaptcha and peer-network URLs);
they need a follow-up migration.

Walkthrough
The pull request updates Twigpine branding and repository, domain, and image references across project materials, CLI commands, release workflows, installers, deployment configuration, and the macOS app. It also changes how the macOS app selects repository and Docker Compose paths.
Changes: Twigpine rebranding
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Project identity and node references .env.example, .github/*, README.md, SECURITY.md, docs/*, infra/*, bootstrap-peers.json, metadata and license files, crates/gitlawb-attest/*, crates/gitlawb-core/*, crates/gitlawb-node/*
Project names, repository links, domains, package metadata, peer operator labels, node descriptions, fixtures, and authentication links now use Twigpine references.
CLI defaults and output crates/gl/*
CLI node defaults now use https://node.twigpine.com. Existing GITLAWB_NODE overrides remain. CLI text, links, and release-version checks now use Twigpine references.
Release and deployment targets .github/workflows/release.yml, install.*, npm/*, infra/*
Release workflow targets, installer defaults, package metadata, and deployment image references now use Twigpine repositories and branding.
The app can return no repository path when no local clone is detected. Compose selection uses the repository file when present, otherwise the app data directory. Existing fallback files are retained and retired image references are updated. App labels use Twigpine branding.
No actionable merge-blocking risk remains established for this rebranding change.

The release workflow publishes the container image to
ghcr.io/${GITHUB_REPOSITORY,,}, which is ghcr.io/twigpine/node since the
org rename; the old ghcr.io/gitlawb/node path no longer resolves for
anonymous pulls. Point the RUN-A-NODE docker run example, the OSS
readiness audit's claim about it, and the macOS app's generated compose
file at the published path.
The README listed the macOS DMG as "Twigpine Node.dmg", but
build-macos-app.sh writes GitlawbNode-macOS.dmg (kept on purpose), so
document the real file name.

Regenerate existing app-generated Compose files.
When no repository clone is configured, Config.repoPath returns the data directory. An existing generated docker-compose.yml therefore enters the repository-file branch and bypasses regeneration. Upgraded installs can continue using ghcr.io/gitlawb/node:latest instead of the new ghcr.io/twigpine/node:latest reference.
Detect and migrate files generated by the app before returning them. Preserve user-managed Compose files and the existing volumes. The repository does not establish whether the old image registry path still resolves, so the fix should not depend on that assumption.

`description` on aws_security_group is ForceNew, so renaming it forced a
replace of the in-use group on the next apply of an existing deployment.
Restore the original text and note why it must stay until a separate

…as a repo's
Config.repoPath fell back to the data directory when no repo clone was
found, and DockerCompose then picked up the compose file it had generated
there as if it belonged to a repo. The generator therefore only ran on
first launch, so upgraded installs kept their original compose, including
the old ghcr.io/gitlawb/node image, which no longer serves anonymous pulls.
repoPath now returns nil when there is no clone, and the app regenerates
its compose file whenever no repo compose is in use. Project directory and
named volumes are unchanged.

release.yml publishes to ghcr.io/${GITHUB_REPOSITORY,,}, which is now
ghcr.io/twigpine/node; ghcr.io/gitlawb/node denies anonymous pulls, so the
default made new deployments fail to start and the upgrade command fail
on existing ones. On an existing deployment `terraform apply` only updates
the upgrade SSM document in place (user_data drift is ignored); the new
image is pulled on the next upgrade_command.

These are the two outside-diff findings from the CodeRabbit review, which can't be answered inline.
DockerCompose.swift:43-44: regenerate app-generated Compose files. Fixed in e04efe4, narrowed in 0924226.
The cause was in Config.repoPath, not the compose lookup. With no repo clone it fell back to the app's data directory. DockerCompose.composeFilePath then found the docker-compose.yml it had generated there and returned it as a repo file, so the app never touched that file again. repoPath now returns nil when there is no clone. The app generates its compose file on first use. If the file exists, the app keeps it, because operators edit it to pass settings such as GITLAWB_OPERATOR_STRICT_MODE, and only rewrites ghcr.io/gitlawb/node references to ghcr.io/twigpine/node, keeping tags and digests. An explicit repo path or a detected dev checkout still uses the repo's compose. The project directory is unchanged, so the compose project name and the pg-data/gitlawb-data volumes are kept.
Verified with a Swift 6.0 harness: on 421ae90 the stale image is kept, and on 0924226 only the image references change while customizations, pinned tags and unrelated images are preserved.
variables.tf:64-74: AWS image default. Fixed in c9a86c1. image_repo now defaults to ghcr.io/twigpine/node, and infra/README.md, infra/aws/README.md and terraform.tfvars.example match. ghcr.io/gitlawb/node returns 403 for anonymous manifest pulls, so the old default broke new deployments and made upgrade_command fail on existing ones (docker compose pull under set -e).
I had deferred this, but the deferral wasn't needed. The image only reaches the instance through the rendered compose. user_data drift is ignored on aws_instance, and aws_ssm_document.content updates in place, so apply only updates the upgrade document and the new image is pulled on the next upgrade. create_ecr_repo behavior is unchanged. terraform validate passes, and the rendered default is image: ghcr.io/twigpine/node:latest.

Without a left boundary the migration also rewrote the retired path when
it appeared inside a longer reference, such as a registry mirror

Merge readiness
Rebase onto current main before merge. Head b2d519e does not contain origin/main at 6233bd9 (two commits: #379 git ref validation, #346 public-URL gate). Both touch crates/gitlawb-node/src/api/peers.rs, which this PR also edits for hostname test fixtures. Merge is clean today (mergeable: MERGEABLE) but landing without rebase drops those fixes and may conflict on resolve.
Confirm security@twigpine.com delivers.SECURITY.md now directs reporters to that address. The PR author could not verify the alias; bouncing mail would violate the published security policy. Confirm MX/alias with whoever runs twigpine.com mail before merge.
Approving review required. GitHub reports mergeStateStatus: BLOCKED with reviewDecision: REVIEW_REQUIRED. Required checks on head are green (fmt/clippy, stable+beta tests, Docker smoke, CodeQL including Swift, release scripts).
Prior automated review threads. Copilot’s AWS security-group description concern and CodeRabbit’s AWS image default / macOS compose regeneration items are addressed on head (f837d63, c9a86c1, e04efe4–b2d519e). No open code thread from those tools remains on the current diff.
🟢 Thanks for the contribution. I do not see any actionable code or test defects on head b2d519ea54df1527c5694abe0a597dd824724126 within the PR’s stated branding scope.
The rebrand is consistent with the documented identifier deferrals (bootstrap-peers.json URLs, docs.gitlawb.com install output, protocol names). Release workflow org guard, GHCR defaults, AWS image_repo, and macOS compose selection plus retired-image migration match the release path and operator-edit constraints described in the PR.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Approving at b2d519e. A word-level diff of the crates, scripts, workflows and docs against the base shows each changed token is a gitlawb to Twigpine swap (plus the README DMG file-name correction), so no protocol identifier, header, DID method or remote name moved. The new hosts answer: twigpine.com serves install.sh, install.ps1, install-checksums.txt and /agents, and node, node2 and node3 .twigpine.com/health return 200 with valid TLS. ghcr.io/twigpine/node resolves anonymously and ghcr.io/gitlawb/node does not, so moving the infra default and the macOS compose to the new path is right.
The security group description is back to its original text, which keeps the attached group from being replaced. I ran the macOS image-migration regex on 11 cases: it rewrites the old image path with tags and digests kept, and leaves the new path and look-alike names (a prefix, -extra, nodes, /sub) alone. The Swift itself was built by CI only. A scan for slash-qualified old-org paths on this head finds only intentional search patterns and the Homebrew lines below.
Non-blocking, for a follow-up: crates/gl/src/quickstart.rs:37 and :182 still print "gitlawb" (the PR's grep skips a trailing period), and the Homebrew install line in README.md:132 and npm/packages/gl/README.md:27 still names the gitlawb/tap tap, which works through the redirect. Before merging, someone with admin access should confirm the Homebrew and web-sync tokens are scoped to the Twigpine repos, since the release guard change turns those jobs back on, and that security@twigpine.com delivers.

Summary
Rebrands every user-facing "gitlawb" / "Gitlawb" mention to Twigpine across docs, README, CLI help and output, MCP tool descriptions, installers, npm metadata, macOS app strings, license headers and GitHub links. Protocol and operator identifiers are left alone on purpose and need a separate migration PR (listed below).
Motivation & context
The GitHub org is now
Twigpine(Gitlawb/*redirects toTwigpine/*) and the website and public nodes are live ontwigpine.com, but the repo still presents itself as Gitlawb. This PR changes branding only, so it is safe to merge without coordinating a network upgrade. No tracking issue exists for this.

Upgraded installs would have keptghcr.io/gitlawb/node.repoPathnow returns nil without a clone. The app generates its compose file on first use. If the file already exists, the app keeps it, because operators edit it to pass settings the generated environment block omits (e.g.GITLAWB_OPERATOR_STRICT_MODE), and only rewritesghcr.io/gitlawb/nodereferences toghcr.io/twigpine/node, keeping tags and digests. The project directory and named volumes are unchanged.terraform applyonly updates theupgradeSSM document in place (aws_instanceignoresuser_datadrift). Operators who setimage_repoexplicitly are unaffected.cargo fmtreflowed about 79#[arg(long, default_value = "https://node.twigpine.com", env = "GITLAWB_NODE")]attributes, because the new host is one character longer. How a reviewer can verify
