Summary

  • Adds _validate_env_file() helper in spawner.py that checks (a) the env_file path exists and is readable and (b) it contains a non-blank CLAUDE_CODE_OAUTH_TOKEN or ANTHROPIC_API_KEY.
  • Calls it in _spawn() right after the PREPARING phase is reported — before prepare_workspace, before the image build, before any docker invocation — so a misconfigured repo fails fast with an actionable message.
  • Makes the validator injectable (like run_hook) so existing tests pass without touching the filesystem; new tests use tmp_path to exercise the real function.

Check that the repo's env_file exists and contains a recognised auth
token (CLAUDE_CODE_OAUTH_TOKEN or ANTHROPIC_API_KEY) before the image
is built or docker is invoked, so a misconfigured repo surfaces a clear
actionable FAILED detail instead of a cryptic exit-code error after a
full build cycle.
