fix: normalize cached process tool arguments - #455
Cached ChatGPT descriptors can still send sessionId, workingDirectory, yieldTimeMs and maxOutputTokens after the server advertises snake_case. The existing workspaceId compatibility step lets the workspace resolve, but the process poll fails validation and optional execution settings are ignored.
Extend that authenticated HTTP-boundary normalization to the observed Codex process arguments. Canonical schemas and domain inputs remain unchanged. Equal aliases are accepted; contradictory values fail before tool execution; invalid values still reach the normal schema checks. This extends the concrete upgrade case in #375 without adding a general case-conversion layer.
The HTTP regressions fail on the unchanged base and pass with the fix, covering working directory, immediate session return, later polling, output limits, type validation and conflict rejection without command side effects. Existing cached-workspace, authentication and JSON-RPC response tests remain covered. On macOS arm64 with Node 22.22.1, typecheck, lint, build and the packed-package installation smoke test pass. The full test suite passes 574 tests with 4 conditional skips and no failures. Cross-platform CI has not yet run for this branch.
Cached tool arguments using camelCase aliases now preserve settings such as the working directory, output limits, and session ID when commands run or are polled.
Conflicting alias and canonical values, as well as invalid value types, are rejected before a command runs. Matching values are accepted.
The HTTP MCP handler now normalizes known cached camelCase arguments for process tools. It rejects conflicting aliases and retains canonical arguments when both forms match. HTTP regression tests cover command execution, polling, output limits, and argument validation.
Changes: Process argument compatibility
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Normalize and validate cached arguments src/server.ts, src/server.test.ts
The handler normalizes known cached aliases for workspaceId, exec_command, and write_stdin. Conflicting values produce an HTTP 400 JSON-RPC error. Tests cover execution, polling, output limits, invalid values, and matching aliases.
Waishnav/devspace#375: Adds HTTP normalization for cached workspaceId, which this change extends to process-tool arguments.
Waishnav/devspace#430: Adds isJsonNumber, which this change uses in its process-argument regression tests.

The compatibility change is mergeable on the available evidence. Additional assertions would strengthen coverage of output limits, polling timing, and session-ID type validation.

A rabbit taps a camelCase key, The server maps it carefully. A matching pair may pass along, A clash receives an error strong. The process starts, its output neat, Then polling brings the task complete.
A 100-token budget would still truncate the output and pass both checks. The 256-character minimum includes the truncation marker; the response adds process-status text.

Test polling while the command is still running.
The assertions can pass if yieldTimeMs is lost because the command can finish within either yield window. Add a poll with no buffered output where the command exits after the requested yield but before the 5,000 ms default. Assert that the poll returns while the command is still running.

Test rejection of a string sessionId.
Add an HTTP test that sends an active session ID as a string and asserts validation rejection. The string yieldTimeMs test would not detect conversion specific to sessionId.

Add an HTTP validation test alongside the existing invalid-argument test for
`tools/call`: send an active session ID as a string and assert that the request

`sessionId` validation.
