Gitbar

Gitbar is a native Omarchy Shell bar widget for GitHub notifications. It uses the authenticated GitHub CLI session already on your machine; it never stores or reads a token itself.

Requirements

• Omarchy 4.0 or newer
• gh
• jq

Gitm8 is optional. If it is not installed, right-clicking Gitbar opens its repository instead.

Authenticate once before using Gitbar:

gh auth login

Install

Install directly from the public GitHub repository:

omarchy plugin add https://github.com/b404dev/Gitbar-Omarchy.git --enable

Remove

Disable and safely remove Gitbar with Omarchy's plugin manager:

omarchy plugin disable b404dev.gitbar
omarchy plugin remove b404dev.gitbar --yes

For local development, copy or symlink the repository to ~/.config/omarchy/plugins/b404dev.gitbar, then run:

omarchy plugin validate ~/.config/omarchy/plugins/b404dev.gitbar
omarchy-shell shell rescanPlugins
omarchy plugin enable b404dev.gitbar

Plugin settings are available in Setup → Plugins. The bar position can also be changed with:

omarchy bar move b404dev.gitbar --section right

The repository folder and Gitm8 command can be changed in the plugin settings. The default repository folder is ~/Github; nested Git repositories up to three directories below it are included. By default, Gitbar switches to the next empty Hyprland workspace and launches Gitm8 in its own terminal using:

scripts/launch-gitm8

Privacy and security

The helper invokes gh api locally and only returns an unread count to the QML widget. Gitbar does not log notification content or send data anywhere other than GitHub through the official CLI.
