auth login reported success for any well-formed JWT, also an expired one or one from a different instance. The CLI now asks the control plane for the session of the token before it saves it, and fails the login when the control plane rejects it. Change Summary
-
- Validates pasted and callback login tokens against the control plane before saving them.
- Adds table-driven tests for token-check errors and auth-message behavior.
- Threads context into current-context actions so the login token check keeps a 30-second timeout.

Fixes a real auth-flow flaw where browser login callbacks carried reusable session JWTs in `?t=` and recipients accepted them verbatim; it replaces that path with a verifier-bound handoff-code exchange for upgraded clients.

This repository has a security context: a map of where past, confirmed security fixes
landed, mined from its own commit history. The files this change touches intersect it.
What follows are PRIORS, not findings in this diff. Re-confirming an already-fixed issue
is not a result. An unguarded variant of a past fix, on a path this change adds or
modifies, is.

How to check:
1. For each file above, confirm the listed guards are still reached on every path this
change adds or modifies. A guard on the direct path but skipped on a sibling path is
a live bug, not a style issue.
2. Where a file names a removed construct instead of a guard, search for that construct:
past fixes here deleted it rather than guarding it, so any surviving use is a lead.
3. Where an invariant is enforced at other entry points, check that this change does not
add one that skips it.
4. Verify before reporting. Trace attacker-controlled input to the sink, confirm the
guard is genuinely absent, and state a concrete exploit. Discard what you cannot
exploit.
5. Do not stop at these files. The fix history shows where risk concentrates, not the
only bugs that exist.
6. When the review is complete, post a comment on this pull request to acknowledge it.

The login no longer parses the token without verification, the control plane checks it and its authentication errors are rendered by the shared CLI message. Both login paths verify and save the token through one function, and the check reuses the current context action. ConfigCurrentContext.Run now takes a context, so the login can limit the token check to 30 seconds and a stalled control plane does not block it. The other callers pass the command context. …rtup fetchCurrentContext connects to the control plane without an organization, asks who the token belongs to and closes the connection. The login check and the organization lookup at startup both use it, and the login check takes its context from the caller. Assisted-by: Claude Code Signed-off-by: Miguel Martinez Trivino <miguel@chainloop.dev> Chainloop-Trace-Sessions: 8a55816c-d854-40a9-9865-967f64a2b376
chainloop auth loginreported a successful login for any string that parsed as a JWT. An expired token, or a token from a different instance, gave "login successful!", and the next command then failed with an authentication error. Before the CLI saves the token, it now asks the control plane for the session of the token (
ContextService/Current, which does not need an organization). If the control plane rejects the token, the login fails with a clear error and the CLI saves nothing. The headless flow (pasted token) and the browser callback flow both do this check. The gRPC connection options are moved into a helper so the login can reuse them.Closes #3769
