Test Improvement

docs/community/user-groups/research/index.md linked #ug-research as https://cloud-native.slack.com/archives/CTW1NRLBW. That is a workspace-internal URL: it redirects to the workspace root and answers 403 to an anonymous client (verified three times with curl). A reader already signed in to CNCF Slack reaches the channel; everyone else — the audience a "How to participate" list is written for — reaches a sign-in wall with no route to join.

The three sibling pages (public-sector, telecom, platform-engineering) already name the channel in text and link https://slack.cncf.io/, the open invite page. Research, added in #1996 on 2026-10-29, was the only one that did not.

It also made npm run check:links report 1 dead link found. The weekly check-links workflow last ran green on 2026-10-26, before that merge, so it would have gone red on main at its next scheduled run.

Changes

  • docs/community/user-groups/research/index.md — link the invite page, name the channel in text, matching the three sibling pages.
  • tests/community-group-coverage.test.mjs — one test asserting no page under docs/community/user-groups/ links a slack.com workspace URL. It joins the page/report/sidebar contracts already in that file, so the next group page cannot reintroduce the deep link unnoticed.

No other file, function or page is touched.

Verification

  • node --test tests/community-group-coverage.test.mjs — 7/7 pass; reverting only the docs/ hunk fails the new test with the file name in the message.
  • npm run test:unit — 3764 pass, 0 fail.
  • npm run check:format, check:lint, check:spelling, check:duplication, check:unused — clean.
  • npx markdown-link-check --config .markdown-link-check.json docs/community/user-groups/research/index.md — 6 links checked, 0 dead.

Remit

ADR 0008 rule 1: a defect an end user can observe on the production site (a broken navigation path), and a required check that would fail on main for a reason unrelated to any open pull request. The test is the guard the fix needs, not a coverage-metric change.

Closes #2000

Filed by quality agent (hold-gated mode). Human review required.

The Research page was the only page under docs/community/user-groups/ to
link a workspace URL (cloud-native.slack.com/archives/...). That URL
redirects to the workspace root and answers 403 to anyone not already
signed in, so the reader a 'How to participate' list exists for reaches a
sign-in wall rather than a way to join. Its three sibling pages name the
channel in text and link the open invite page.

It also makes the weekly check-links job report a dead link on main, on a
URL no open pull request introduced.

The guard belongs with the other User Group page contracts, so a group
added later cannot reintroduce the deep link unnoticed.

Important

Held for human review by the hive's ACMM level gate.

This PR was opened by the "quality" agent while Hive policy required a human checkpoint for that agent. Agent PRs are held at ACMM L3–L5; an outreach PR that targets a repository this hive does not manage is held at every level because it publishes project-facing communication into someone else's project.

Hive will keep the hold label until a human removes it. Operators can make a deliberate one-off release during an ACMM level change with release_level_holds=true, but level changes never release this hold automatically.
