Stores and serves the location data published by the OwnTracks apps (iOS/Android) β history in a local LMDB store, web interface plus HTTP API for maps, tracks and friend positions. Self-hosted alternative to commercial location sharing. Requested in discussion #800.
No source build. I initially assessed this as a C build because the GitHub release carries no binaries β wrong: upstream runs its own apt repository with a trixie suite. Verified ot-recorder 1.0.1-0-deb13.0 at repo.owntracks.org/debian. Installed via setup_deb822_repo + apt install ot-recorder, updates through apt.
Mosquitto is installed alongside; the recorder subscribes on 127.0.0.1:1883. Web UI on 8083, configured through /etc/default/ot-recorder.
Storage moved to /opt/owntracks_data via OTR_STORAGEDIR so the tracking history sits outside the app directory.
Note: Mosquitto ships with its default config, which permits anonymous connections. Flagged as a warning β authentication and TLS are needed before port 1883 leaves the LAN.
A local Mosquitto broker is installed and the recorder subscribes to it on 127.0.0.1:1883. Configure the OwnTracks app on your phone to publish to :1883 in MQTT mode.
Mosquitto is installed with its default configuration, which allows anonymous local connections. Before exposing port 1883 beyond your LAN, add authentication and TLS in /etc/mosquitto/conf.d/.
Location history is stored in /opt/owntracks_data (LMDB plus the recorder's own store), outside the app directory. Back that up - it is the entire tracking history.
Installed from the official OwnTracks apt repository (repo.owntracks.org/debian), so updates go through apt. The recorder can also run in HTTP mode instead of MQTT - see the upstream README.
Note: This is not in the official repo yetβit's just a dev version! After merging into ProxmoxVE, it will need to be recreated.

The OwnTracks-Recorder script is ready for testing:
