Claude Usage Bar

A macOS menu bar widget with three vertical bars for your Claude subscription limits: the 5 hour session, the weekly all-models limit, and the weekly Fable limit. Click it for percentages and reset times.

It reads the OAuth token Claude Code stores in the keychain and polls the same usage endpoint the /usage command uses, every five minutes, and on menu open if the data is over a minute old. The endpoint rate limits, and the menu says so when that happens. Nothing leaves your machine except that request to api.anthropic.com.

Requirements

  • macOS 13 or later
  • Xcode Command Line Tools (for swift build)
  • Claude Code signed in on this Mac (claude once, so the keychain item exists)

Install

make install

That builds a release binary, wraps it in ClaudeUsageBar.app, copies it to /Applications, and launches it. The first launch asks for keychain access to "Claude Code-credentials". Click Always Allow. The build is ad-hoc signed, so a rebuild asks again.

To start it at login, add /Applications/ClaudeUsageBar.app under System Settings, General, Login Items.

Other targets

  • make run builds and launches from build/ without installing.
  • make clean removes build output.

How the bars map

Bar Limit
left 5 hour session
middle weekly, all models
right weekly, Fable

If the token has expired, the menu says so. Running claude refreshes it.
