What this adds

  • html setting links (0 to 1 000 000, default 0): a list of links above the pictures and the blocks, 18 kinds in turn - a link to the list itself, relative, to the folder above, from the root, a query alone, absolute with a query and a fragment, http, without a scheme, percent encoded, an international domain (punycode), a port, mailto:, tel:, ftp:, a download, a new window, nofollow, data:. The text of each link says which kind it is. Every address is on a domain RFC 2606 keeps for examples. The manifest records links.
  • formatting=indented: two spaces in front of a line for every element it sits in, the text of pre left alone. With nesting the minimum grows with the square of the depth, and the refusal says so.
  • What closes the levels, the body and the document is written after the last block, a chunk at a time, for every layout. A hundred thousand indented levels are 10 GB, and they no longer sit in one record in memory (peak 19 MB writing 800 MB of indented levels). Same bytes: two new golden cases of nesting on one line were measured with the binary of main before the move, and every existing hash is unchanged.
  • The window spells the bom setting BOM instead of "Bom" (txt, md, xml, html).
  • The mutation coverage guard reads a guard's name in either quote.

Try it

tfg generate --format html --size 16kb --set links=20 --set formatting=indented --out out

The page lists 20 links under the label, indented by depth, and out/manifest.json says "links": 20 and "formatting": "indented".

tfg generate --format html --size 1mb --set nesting=1000 --set formatting=indented --out out2

Refused, exit code 4: HTML cannot be smaller than 2021138 B, naming nesting and formatting among the settings that add to the page.

Measured on pages from the program

  • Nu HTML Checker: no message on pages with links or indentation. Fragments keep the two errors every fragment has.
  • Chromium 152: every element of an indented page sits where it sits on the page of lines.
  • jsdom, lxml, BeautifulSoup and Python's urljoin resolve every link alike. DOMPurify 3.4.17 with its defaults takes out the data: address and target, sanitizes 100 000 links in 4.7 s and runs out of an 8 GB heap at a million. lxml reads a million in 2.9 s, jsdom in 31 s.

Checked locally

Cheap gates, parity, the site, the registry and sentence catalogues, the screen references, every html guard, the golden hashes, golangci-lint on the touched packages (0 issues). New guards and the moved mutation entries were broken by hand and every one went red.

Not run: the full guard package, try-named.py.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added an indented HTML formatting option, with two-space indentation based on element nesting while preserving text inside <pre> blocks.
    • Added a configurable number of example links to HTML output, including a range of link types and destinations.
  • Updates
    • Updated the byte order mark setting label to “BOM” in supported format settings.

links puts a list of that many links above the pictures and the blocks,
eighteen kinds in turn - relative, from the root, a query alone, absolute
with a query and a fragment, http, without a scheme, percent encoded, an
international domain, a port, mailto:, tel:, ftp:, a download, a new
window, nofollow and data: - each saying in its text what it is, every
address on a domain kept for examples. Up to a million: DOMPurify ran out
of an 8 GB heap over a million, which lxml read in 2.9 s.

formatting=indented puts two spaces in front of a line for every element it
sits in and leaves the text of pre alone. A guard indents the page of lines
with its own indenter and asks for the same bytes, and the structural check
counts every line's depth itself.

What closes the levels, the body and the document is written after the
last block, a chunk at a time, rather than inside it - a hundred thousand
indented levels are 10 GB. Same bytes for every layout: two golden cases of
nesting on one line were measured with the binary of main before the move.
The writing of a page moved to a type of its own, content, when settings
grew past the methods one type may carry.

The window spells the bom setting BOM, where it read Bom, and the mutation
coverage guard reads a guard's name in either quote.

The HTML generator adds configurable links and indented formatting. Its writer, size calculations, validation, tests, and localized descriptions are updated. The change also updates the BOM label and adjusts two guard-test matchers.

Changes: HTML output and validation

Layer / File(s) Summary
HTML settings and link markup
internal/format/htmlfile/settings.go, internal/format/htmlfile/markup.go, internal/format/htmlfile/links.go, README.md
HTML settings accept links counts from 0 to 1,000,000 and the lines, minified, and indented formatting modes. The markup defines a link list, and the link catalogue contains 18 link kinds.
Indented content layout
internal/format/htmlfile/indent.go, internal/format/htmlfile/page.go, internal/format/htmlfile/blocks.go, internal/format/htmlfile/catalogue.go, internal/format/htmlfile/characters.go
Layout helpers indent lines by element depth and preserve <pre> contents. Blocks, catalogue content, and international content account for indentation in their output and byte counts.
HTML writing and size planning
internal/format/htmlfile/content.go, internal/format/htmlfile/html.go, internal/format/htmlfile/links.go, internal/format/htmlfile/pictures.go
The writer emits the opening structure, links, pictures, records, and closing structure separately. Chunked writes check the context, and size planning includes links and indentation.
HTML validation and coverage
internal/oracle/strict.py, internal/guard/htmllayout_test.go, internal/guard/htmlsettings_test.go, internal/guard/generatorbytes_test.go, internal/guard/testdata/generator-golden.json, internal/guard/nottelemetry_test.go, internal/guard/parity_test.go, internal/gui/text/locale/*, CHANGELOG.md
The checker validates indentation and link lists. Tests cover layout, link ordering, settings, cancellation, and byte sizes. Localized descriptions and changelog entries document the new settings.

BOM label

Layer / File(s) Summary
BOM label update
internal/gui/text/labels.go, internal/gui/text/locale/registry/en.json, internal/gui/text/locale/registry/pl.json, internal/guard/testdata/screens/catalogue.xml, CHANGELOG.md
The window label changes from “Bom” to “BOM”. The catalogue sample adjusts the label width and adjacent button position.

Guard test matching

Layer / File(s) Summary
Guard test matcher updates
internal/guard/flagnames_test.go, internal/guard/mutationcoverage_test.go
The flag-name test removes xn-- before checking literals. The mutation-target matcher accepts test names in either single or double quotes.

Explanation

The new HTML checker can exhaust memory on huge input. html_layout calls text[:-1].split("\n"), stores every line in out, and then creates another full string with "\n".join(out) at internal/oracle/strict.py:897-914. This path also runs for formatting=lines. html_links uses re.findall to store every link at lines 950-954, while the PR permits 1,000,000 links. The entrypoint also uses unbounded handle.read() at lines 3386-3387. The PR permits 100,000 nesting levels and documents multi-gigabyte output, so malformed or huge HTML can cause excessive memory use or process failure.

Resolution

Replace handle.read() with a bounded read that refuses input above a documented limit. Refactor html_indentation to consume lines incrementally without split() or a full join() result. Refactor html_links to validate items incrementally with re.finditer or a streaming scanner instead of re.findall; use a streaming structural checker if files above the limit must be accepted.

- Line 120: Update the `flagLike` check to ignore only matches whose two hyphens
are the `xn--` marker, while preserving matches that overlap that prefix, such
as `--l` in `xn---limit`. Add a test that exercises the real guard behavior for
this case and fails if the overlapping flag match is accepted.

Review comments at @internal/guard/mutationcoverage_test.go:
- Line 256: Update the mutationTarget regexp and its name extraction to accept
only matching single or double quote pairs, using alternatives with a populated
name capture for each; ensure the coverage check rejects mixed-quote strings
such as a single-quoted name ending in a double quote.

Review comments at @internal/oracle/strict.py:
- Around line 950-951: Add an explicit check after the closing-list search in
the link-list validation flow: if `text.find` returns a negative index, call
`fail` before slicing. Keep the existing item extraction unchanged when the
closing `</ul>` is present.

95-98: Large catalogue append bypasses the chunk flush and cancellation check.

appendInternational and appendCatalogue append directly to out.buf. They do not go through add. The catalogue is a fixed size of a few KB. This piece is bounded, so the gap does not affect memory or cancellation in practice. close then writes the remainder through core.WriteAll without checking ctx.Err(). The behavior is acceptable as it stands. No change is required.

    43-43: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality

The comment is unsubstantiated. The repository contains many existing docs/... references in source comments, and the public-history rule prohibits local paths without prohibiting repository-relative documentation references. The missing file is a separate stale-reference concern.

…where a label opens, a pair of quotes

The structural check counted links up to the next closing tag. A list closed
only at the end of the page, every block inside it, kept the right count and
passed on a page of lines and on one line - the tags still balance, and only
an indented page has its indentation read. The list now has to be its links
and nothing else, and one never closed is named so. A guard breaks pages the
program wrote three ways and asks for each verdict.

The flag guard took xn-- out of the text before it looked, so xn---limit
became -limit and its flag was gone. Each dash pair is now read where it
stands, and forgiven only as the prefix of a label.

The mutation coverage guard read a name between two quote classes, so
'TestFoo" counted. Alternatives of one quote each, and a canary that runs
before the list is looked for.
