What

A new format, rtf (Rich Text Format), with four settings. The format count goes from 30 to 31.

The size is carried by the words of the closing paragraph, every line ends after a space (RTF ignores a line end, so one between two letters joins two words), and the smallest document is 65 B. Manifest keys: characters, text_encoding, elements, nesting, code_page, label_embedded.

How it was measured

Before the generator: five readers (LibreOffice 26.2.5.2, pandoc 3.12.1 and the apt pandoc of Ubuntu 24.04 and 26.04, RichEdit, striprtf 0.0.33, Apache Tika 4.1.0) over about forty hand-made files - the padding channel up to 100 MiB, the four ways of writing letters, every hiding place, nesting up to 10 000 000, and twelve broken files. The generator's own output was then read by the same readers and gave the same readings, and a 100 MiB document from the generator took pandoc 95 s and 9.6 GB, while LibreOffice had not finished after 20 minutes. Checks

strict.py gains check_rtf: 7 bit bytes, groups closing at the last byte, control words from a list and at most 32 letters, fallbacks that agree with \ucN and the font's code page, whole surrogate pairs, no line end between letters, the sentences read back, the parts of every where RTF puts them, and the depth nesting asks. It refuses all twelve broken files.
The oracle gains pandoc-rtf, and the fidelity job installs pandoc from apt (a change to ci.yml).
Four guards: TestEveryRTFSettingSurvivesItsReferenceTool (also a canary of pandoc's measured readings, which the setting sentences repeat), TestAnRTFCutAtAnySizeEndsOnItsBraces, TestAnRTFTooSmallForItsLabelSaysItCarriesNone, TestTheRTFManifestRecordsEverySetting. Each was shown to go red by breaking the generator on purpose.
Nine golden cases, one per path of the bytes.
The window: Polish text for every new sentence, the stored screens, the site and its social picture.

empty-and-minimal gains an rtf target, so its recipe_hash differs. No generated file of any other format changes.

Explanation

The PR adds unsafe malformed and large-file paths in internal/oracle/strict.py. rtf_read accepts \uc-1; rtf_fallback then moves its token index backward and can process the same \u forever until the outer 60-second process timeout. A \u without a parameter causes unit < 0 to raise TypeError, and a \uc without a parameter causes slicing with None to raise TypeError. check_rtf also calls list(rtf_tokens(data)) after the CLI reads the entire file, so a large RTF creates one Python tuple per input character and can exhaust memory. These behaviors are introduced by the PR.

Resolution

Replace the unsafe parser paths with bounded validation. In rtf_control/rtf_read, require numeric parameters for \u and \uc, require 0 <= uc <= a documented small limit, and reject missing fonts and other invalid state with fail() before rtf_fallback runs. Make rtf_read consume rtf_tokens as a streaming iterator with bounded lookahead instead of materializing list(...); enforce a maximum input size, token count, group depth, and fallback length, and return a normal FAIL result for every malformed or oversized file. Add tests for missing parameters, negative and oversized \uc, missing font 0, and a large RTF input.
