Fuzzy Find icon in the sidebar

Problem

There's currently no way to get the file finder (fuzzy find) dialog with the mouse. And no way to discover the shortcut in the UI without going to the addons page

Proposal

Put a search icon in the sidebar that opens the popover?

We do this with sidebar items in Settings

OK, so the icon would go to the right (end) of the sidebar headerbar?

Is this function possibly useful enough to be brought into main code at some point? Otherwise we would need a special plugin hook added to access that headerbar (analagous to the paste bin one)

@jeremypw Yeah that's where I would put it 👍

Honestly I personally am against the plugin system in general. I don't love features that are hidden and disabled by default. I feel like things should either be in the main code or not at all. So my personal opinion is that it should indeed just be part of the main code

Anything that a significant number of users would find helpful, and not get in the way, should be in main code, I agree. Not sure about niche needs like pastebin (although one person's niche is another's must-have).
