Part 1: official actions.

  • Rust is installed through rustup, with the toolchain named in rust-toolchain.toml.
  • actions/cache replaces Swatinem/rust-cache.
  • Both workflows get least-privilege permissions, timeouts and a concurrency group, and checkout keeps no credentials.
  • The release attests its files with actions/attest@v4, fed SHA256SUMS.txt, and the notes say how to verify them.
  • Actions stay referenced by tag.

Part 2: Dependabot.

  • Weekly updates for crates and actions; crate patches are grouped.
  • A crate update that Cargo calls compatible merges itself once CI passes, following GitHub's documented fetch-metadata pattern. AGENTS.md records this as the one standing approval.
  • Advisories stay with GitHub's own Dependabot alerts, which are already enabled.

Verified. A temporary commit, since dropped, attested the CI files on a Windows runner. gh attestation verify accepted them (SLSA v1 provenance, the three files, the workflow and the commit) and rejected a copy with one byte changed.

Rust comes from rustup, already on GitHub's runners, with the toolchain named in rust-toolchain.toml; the cache is actions/cache, keyed on the compiler and the lock file. Both workflows get least-privilege permissions, a timeout, and a checkout that keeps no credentials; CI cancels a superseded run. The release attests its files with actions/attest, fed SHA256SUMS.txt, and the notes say how to verify. Actions stay referenced by tag, at the maintainer's choice.

Weekly Dependabot PRs for crates and actions, crate patches grouped. A crate update Cargo calls compatible -- a patch, or a minor at 1.0 -- merges itself once CI passes, through GitHub's documented fetch-metadata pattern; the rest waits for the maintainer. AGENTS.md records it as the one standing approval. Security advisories stay with GitHub's own alerts and security updates, already on and carrying RustSec's, so no separate audit.
