Isolate the test process from system and global git config so core.autocrlf=true cannot rewrite checkout content, skip the POSIX file mode assertion on Windows, and verify Run's working directory with a marker file instead of comparing path spellings.
The error renders the starting path with %q, which doubles backslashes on Windows, so a raw substring match never hits there.

Adds an OS matrix to the test job so the Windows-specific behaviour (
core.longpaths, submodule HEAD discovery) is exercised by this repo's own CI instead of only downstream.fail-fastis off so one OS failing doesn't cancel the others.
