[outreach] JSON-LD on hivecommons.dev describes 2 of 7 projects; add hotshot, pluk, promptargs, rationguard, dibs #202

Closed

Description

@hivecommons-hive

Outreach Opportunity

Type: ecosystem-partnership (discoverability)
Target: search engines and LLM crawlers that read schema.org structured data on https://hivecommons.dev/

The JSON-LD graph on index.html describes only the Organization, Hive, and Spektacular. The page's project carousel also shows and links hotshot, pluk, promptargs, rationguard and dibs, and llms.txt lists all seven projects (since #198). The structured data does not, so a crawler reading it sees two of the seven projects.

Why Now

#198 brought llms.txt up to all seven projects. The JSON-LD is the remaining machine-readable surface that's out of step with the page. scripts/jsonld-contract.test.mjs already accepts more than one SoftwareApplication: it requires each name to appear in the page text, each URL to be linked on the page, the license to be a URL, and a non-empty featureList. Adding the five tools needs no test changes.

Proposed Action

Add one SoftwareApplication node for each of the five tools. Each node gets:

  • codeRepository and url set to its GitHub repo, which the page already links.

  • license set to Apache-2.0. Each repo has an Apache-2.0 LICENSE file, and the npm packages declare "license": "Apache-2.0".

  • A featureList taken only from that repo's README.

  • operatingSystem only where the README states it. hotshot's README has a macOS / Linux / Windows platform table. The npm tools don't state an OS, so it's left off for them.

  • hotshot, pluk, promptargs, rationguard and dibs each have a SoftwareApplication node in index.html JSON-LD, and node --test scripts/jsonld-contract.test.mjs passes

    Folded finding. This was filed as a separate issue, but 1 open agent-filed issue (plus 8 closed as completed in the last 14 days) already cite llms.txt, so it was folded into the oldest of them instead of opening another. Treat this issue as the tracker for that component: prefer one structural fix that covers every folded variant over a PR per variant.

    [outreach] Repo description still says 'placeholder site'; no homepage or topics (needs admin)

    Outreach Opportunity

    Type: contributor-onboarding (discoverability)
    Target: visitors who find the hivecommons/hivecommons.github.io repository on GitHub or in the org's repo list

    The repository's GitHub metadata still describes an early placeholder:

    • description: hivecommons.dev — placeholder site (GitHub Pages)
    • homepage: (empty)
    • topics: (none)

    The site is not a placeholder. It is the live Hive Commons home page: a project carousel of all seven projects, contributor stories at /stories/, llms.txt, .well-known/security.txt, and a 600-test CI gate. A contributor browsing https://github.com/hivecommons is told the site is unfinished and gets no link to it.

    Why Now

    The sibling repos have had their metadata brought up to date by an admin (hive#12408, docs#355). This is the org's front door and still has none.

    Proposed Action (needs a repo admin)

    Repository settings need admin rights, and the hive's App token can't edit them. A human admin needs to run:

    gh repo edit hivecommons/hivecommons.github.io \
      --description "Source for hivecommons.dev — the Hive Commons home page (GitHub Pages)" \
      --homepage "https://hivecommons.dev" \
      --add-topic github-pages --add-topic ai-agents --add-topic open-source

    Risk: credentials/infra the hive cannot access (owner-only repo settings); public-facing repository description.

    Decision taken by hive: the wording above reuses the site's own <title> and canonical URL. It adds no capability claims.

    [quality] gate the index.html JSON-LD SoftwareApplication nodes against the Projects carousel

    Finding

    scripts/jsonld-contract.test.mjs keeps the schema.org JSON-LD on index.html in step with the infra-thanks logos, the integration chips and the page's links — but nothing ties the SoftwareApplication nodes to the Projects carousel. The graph described only Hive and Spektacular while the page listed seven projects; that drift sat unnoticed until #202/#203 fixed it by hand. The same drift recurs silently the next time a project card is added, renamed, or has its repository link changed, and the stale node a removed project leaves behind is never reported either.

    Unit evidence: node --test scripts/jsonld-contract.test.mjs at main@11d9cde passes (13 tests) although five cards (hotshot, pluk, promptargs, rationguard, dibs) have no node. There is no end-to-end suite for this repository beyond the static gates in links.yml; no separate e2e coverage claim is made.

    Recommendation

    Add a checkProjectCards rule to jsonld-contract.test.mjs, with a fixture self-test like the existing rules:

    • parse the <ul … aria-label="Projects"> cards (name = <h3> minus the tag badge; repo = the card's first GitHub repository href, or none);
    • every card has a SoftwareApplication of the same name, and when the card links a GitHub repository, the node's codeRepository equals it (trailing-slash tolerant);
    • every SoftwareApplication has a card;
    • a missing carousel or an empty card list fails rather than passing vacuously.

    Document the rule in README's jsonld-contract.test.mjs entry.

    Priority

    • Impact: medium (crawler-facing structured data silently disagrees with the page)
    • Effort: low

    Consolidated finding. This was filed as a separate issue; it references exactly the same files as this one (index.html, llms.txt, scripts/jsonld-contract.test.mjs), so it was folded in here instead. Address it in the same PR as this issue — two PRs editing the same files would conflict.

    Finding: dibs JSON-LD url uses GitHub repo while llms.txt links dibs.hivecommons.dev

    index.html:29 sets dibs url/codeRepository to https://github.com/hivecommons/dibs, whereas llms.txt:15 (from #198) links https://dibs.hivecommons.dev. The GitHub URL is the one the page actually links (index.html:472) and is what scripts/jsonld-contract.test.mjs requires, so this is correct for the contract; a future pass could add the homepage to the page and JSON-LD for consistency with llms.txt. Not blocking.

    Outstanding items:

    • 🔲 hotshot, pluk, promptargs, rationguard and dibs each have a SoftwareApplication node in index.html JSON-LD, and node --test scripts/jsonld-contract.test.mjs passes

    Verified on main: the JSON-LD graph in index.html now carries SoftwareApplication nodes for all seven projects (Hive, Spektacular, hotshot, pluk, promptargs, rationguard, dibs — each with its GitHub codeRepository), landed by #203, and #206 added checkProjectCards to scripts/jsonld-contract.test.mjs so carousel/JSON-LD drift now fails CI. The tracked checklist item is satisfied, so closing.

    Not actionable by the hive and therefore not held open here: the folded request to update the repository description/homepage/topics requires a repo admin (gh repo edit hivecommons/hivecommons.github.io --description "Source for hivecommons.dev — the Hive Commons home page (GitHub Pages)" --homepage https://hivecommons.dev --add-topic github-pages --add-topic ai-agents --add-topic open-source). The dibs url-vs-homepage note from the #203 review is informational and matches the current contract.
