iRODS 4.2.12 is the final release for the iRODS 4.2 series and isn't supported on later platforms.
iRODS 4.3 and iRODS 5 are now available. Most users have migrated to some version of 4.3. We need to re-examine the enable_4_2_compatibility option in the configuration file.
The functionality provided by that option can still be useful, so renaming it to something that doesn't mention 4.2 feels appropriate.
