What

Research + /visualize encoding of Peirce's pragmatic maxim as a library-grade intelligence brief.

Research (one sentence)

The maxim is a rule of logic, not a theory of truth: the meaning of an intellectual conception is the whole of its conceivable practical bearings; James popularized the name from 1898, Peirce coined pragmaticism in 1905 to fence the original method, and later formulations locate meaning in the interpreter's self-controlled conduct rather than in a finite list of observed payoffs.

Encoding

Seed library/pragmatic-maxim.md
Brief library/pragmatic-maxim.json
Retrospective library/pragmatic-maxim-retrospective.md
Registry pipeline/local-graph.mjsLIBRARY

Validator on the local brief: 26 nodes · 54 edges · 9 beats · 7 insights · 5 clusters (density 2.08). Tension arc is the prescribed low → climax → low. Insight mix includes warning + finding.

Spine: pragmatic-maxim, charles-sanders-peirce, practical-effects.

How to view

Open index.html, press L, load The Pragmatic Maxim. F6 follows the story tour.

Notes

  • Domain profile: Reflective / history-of-ideas hybrid (dated 1878–1905 chain kept; no legal/compliance rows).
  • Closer beat applies the maxim to the graph itself: names without effect-edges are only grade two.
  • Wikidata on the maxim node uses the nearby movement QID (Q163188); retrospective flags that as a known SOP gap.
