Soft Rains is an open source system for adding Genuine People Personalities™ to your home. It is designed to integrate with an existing openhab 2 installation.
Features under development:
- multiple intercoms (an intercom can be any device with a speaker and microphone, e.g. Raspberry Pi)
- multiple cameras (for monitoring or communication)
- multiple kiosks (intercom+camera combination)
- speech recognition and synthesis via IBM's Watson cloud services (requires you to sign up and for a free developer account and configure those services)
- trainable face recognition via OpenCV
- trainable voice identification via recognito
- multiple context-dependent personas (e.g. "receptionist" persona for guests vs. "assistant" for family members)
- open-ended programmable conversations (e.g. "are any doors open?" or "is my mom home?" or "when did she leave?" or "show me her face")
- intercom pairing for conversations between humans
- voice message/notification recording/playback
- audio playback for ambience (e.g. baby white noise generator) or event sound effects (door opening)
- smart light control for conversation status (listening vs speaking)
- privacy settings
- recording database for all conversations
- optional Alexa Voice Services integration
- network monitoring for human presence tracking
