[BUG XFCE] XFDesktop wallpaper and settings broken in Wayland Mode #417
This issue is upstream, wayland support is experimental for XFCE and it looks like specifically xfdesktop is not ready. It will just render at the resolution it is set at when launched. You can also not change the wallpaper, though other xsettings all work for theming just the pipe to xfdesktop is broken.
You can fix the wallpaper by running killall xfdesktop && xfdesktop but this is not permanent and again it is stuck at the resolution that is set at the time you do this.
Example of wallpaper sizing :
Icons are still functional across the whole desktop this is just mostly visual.
Going to try to see if we can just do a solid color for now as a workaround.
Same problem here, with the latest webtop:amd64-ubuntu-xfce
I've noticed that, beyond the fact that the wallpaper is not displayed in the good resolution, it's impossible to change the picture that makes it up. Modifying the control panel has no effect.
As @thelamer mentioned it, I used killall xfdesktop && xfdesktop & to retrieve the wallpaper and make it dynamic again when the webtop window is resized.
Arch and alpine work a bit better, Alpine has proper window placement and resizing wallpaper, Arch has proper size wallpaper. Neither let you change the wallpaper.
Just a heads up, we have Xwayland working properly now, so this means stuff like XFCE will use Xwayland and we will not be forcing a half broken beta of wayland.
This is pending on the release of the next version of Selkies, figure a couple weeks to a month.
X11 in general is a first class citizen again, it supports zero copy and outside of lacking compositing the performance is on par with wayland, XFCEs wayland mode should be considered experimental until they cut their actual fork of COSMIC. In general for XFCE use x11 mode (default mode)
