Completes quest/m1/quic/receive-memory.md (deleted here) and adds the follow-up quest/m1/quic/receive-memory-coverage.md. Built on #5675, now merged.

Native MoQ receivers now bound incomplete frames and protocol messages with QUIC connection credit. A reader keeps the credit for the unit it is still assembling and returns it on complete-unit handoff. When held credit fills the window, the receiver stops the least urgent stream with STOP_SENDING and keeps going. Stream credit still advances on every read, so a stream window smaller than a frame only adds round trips.

What changed

  • moq-net
    • transport::poll::RecvStream carries an associated Credit (len, split, merge; dropping it returns the credit). poll::Session gains poll_credit_exhausted, edge-triggered once per stall. Transports that return credit as they read (browser, iroh, WebTransport, qmux) use transport::Unheld and always pend.
    • coding::Reader holds credit for its buffer, returning each unit's on decode or handoff. Read-ahead stays with the next unit. A tracked reader's buffer lives beside its credit in the Hold, under one lock, so an eviction frees the memory with the credit.
    • A crate-private pressure registry ranks every lite and IETF reader: media first (by broadcast, then subscription priority and group order), then unidentified streams, then control. On exhaustion the session evicts one stream (Evicted, the existing lite code 0x35) and re-signals if the release still leaves the window full.
    • Eviction is self-contained. A tracked reader keeps its credit in a shared Hold, and the eviction itself sends STOP_SENDING through the stream's new poll::RecvStream::stopper() handle and drops the credit, whatever the stream's handler is waiting on. The handler hears Evicted on its next read.
    • Credit travels with its allocation, by construction. A partial frame's credit is a Lent inside the HeldFrame that owns its payload, declared after the frame, so finishing, aborting or dropping the frame frees the payload and then returns the credit. Nothing releases credit by hand. The other release points are the slot's own consume, hand_off, clear and evict, each freeing bytes before their credit, and untracked readers, which return credit as they read. Lent credit still counts toward its stream for victim choice, and while an evicted stream holds some, a new fill waits for that release instead of cancelling a second stream.
    • transport::MIN_RECEIVE_WINDOW: the largest supported unit with framing. It is the legacy 64 MiB AnnounceInit plus 16 bytes, which exceeds the 32 MiB frame cache.
    • The memory transport gains an optional receive_window that behaves like QUIC connection flow control.
  • moq-quic
    • CreditStats gains unread and exhausted(): something is held, nothing is available, and nothing is unread, including gaps still owed.
    • Connection::poll_credit_exhausted() reports each credit change that leaves the window exhausted.
  • moq-tokio
    • The driver's RecvStream::read and read_chunk return their Credit. The separate held read path was folded in, because a benchmark showed the per-drop cost is within noise.
    • driver::Connection::poll_credit_exhausted is new.
    • The transport bridge carries credit through new HeldRecvStream and HeldSession traits.
    • driver::RecvStream::stopper() and web::RecvStream::stopper() return a Stopper that stops the stream from outside it. The driver's holds the connection without counting toward its implicit close.
    • The default receive window is 128 MiB, and an unset stream window follows it.
    • Config refuses a receive_window below the minimum with Error::ReceiveWindowTooSmall.
  • moq-uring
    • The driver's RecvStream::poll_read_held(cx, max) returns (Bytes, Credit), and the plain poll_read returns credit as before.
    • Connection::poll_credit_exhausted is new.
    • The adapter is bound on new HeldRecvStream and HeldSession traits.
    • quic::RecvStream::stopper() and quic::web::RecvStream::stopper() return a Stopper.
    • The connection window is 128 MiB, the stream window follows it, and the send window is decoupled at 16 MiB.
    • The raw driver accepts any window. The relay refuses a uring quic.receive_window below the minimum.
  • moq-relay / doc
    • doc/bin/relay/config.md documents the minimum, the eviction behavior, and the 128 MiB example.
    • The drill's credit lane now shrinks only the stream window.

Fixed in review

  • moq-quic: double credit. A stream that was reset and then stopped returned its unread bytes' connection credit twice. With credit tracking, that over-granted MAX_DATA and underflowed CreditStats::unread, causing the moq-cli export test panic seen on test(quic): prove receive memory with JavaScript senders and benchmarks #5752. The fix in Recv::stop is feat(quic)!: reliable reset from a send-stream checkpoint #5690's, merged from main; this branch's parallel fix was dropped. This PR adds an add_read_credits debug assertion that credit never exceeds the bytes received. It also extends held_credit_returns_once with held credit across a reset then stop with a Reliable Size, and a reliable reset read through to its end. Re-crediting all unread data in stop trips the assertion in both that test and feat(quic)!: reliable reset from a send-stream checkpoint #5690's stop_after_reset_credits_once. The moq-cli export test passes 10 of 10.
  • moq-net: quadratic victim selection. Summing per-broadcast credit is now linear. See the benchmark below.
  • moq-net: stale fill in the memory transport. It reported a fill whose credit had already returned. It now rechecks the window when the fill is consumed, as the QUIC drivers do (a_fill_released_before_the_poll_is_not_reported).
  • moq-net: eviction depended on the evicted stream's handler. An eviction only flagged the stream, so a handler parked off its read kept the credit and the stream. Codex found five such waits in turn: a subgroup tail on its fill, a lite prefix on its link cost, retained IETF namespace readers, a joining FETCH after FETCH_OK, and lite HeldTrack after TRACK_INFO. Per-wait guards kept missing new waits, so the eviction now stops the stream and drops its credit itself (see above), and the guards are gone. an_evicted_tail_waiting_on_its_fill_lets_go (IETF) and an_evicted_prefix_waiting_on_its_link_cost_lets_go (lite) evict a parked reader without polling it again, then assert its credit is back and STOP_SENDING went out with Evicted. Both fail without the change.
  • moq-net: eviction left a parked reader its read-ahead. The credit returned but the bytes stayed in the parked Reader, so a peer could refill the window and repeat across retained readers until memory passed receive_window. The tracked buffer now lives in the Hold slot with the credit, and evict drops both. evicted_parked_readers_free_their_read_ahead fills and evicts 64 parked readers on a 16-byte window and asserts they never buffer more than the window. It fails without the change (17 bytes).
  • moq-net: freed memory trailed returned credit. evict published its flag before taking the slot lock, so a read already under the lock could keep bytes whose credit it then dropped, and it dropped the credit before the buffer. The flag is now set under the lock and the buffer is freed first. abort also discards the buffer with its credit, since a reader retained after its abort (an IETF namespace request awaiting its writer, for one) kept memory whose credit had returned. buffered_bytes_are_freed_before_their_credit_returns fails on the old order.
  • moq-net: eviction returned a partial frame's credit early. Bytes already moved into a partial frame left the slot's buffer but not its credit, so evict returned credit for memory the frame still held until its reader woke. That credit now stays counted until the frame is aborted (a_partial_frame_keeps_its_credit_through_eviction).
  • moq-net: a failed frame returned its credit before it was aborted. On eviction, a premature FIN or a transport error, poll_read_frame released the frame's credit by hand before its caller aborted the frame still holding the bytes. This was the fifth finding of that shape, so the credit now belongs to the frame (HeldFrame, above) and release_unit is gone (a_truncated_frame_keeps_its_credit_until_dropped). Because that release now trails the eviction, a fill in between would cancel a second stream, so eviction answers it with the release in flight (a_release_in_flight_spares_the_next_stream). Complete frames, chunks and decoded messages still return their credit on handoff, by design. Datagrams do not pass through Reader.
  • moq-tokio, moq-uring: a stop did not wake a parked read. A stop produces no readable event, so a reader parked on its stream slept through an eviction's stop. Both stoppers now wake it, and a stopped uring read, or closed-watch, fails rather than reading the discarded tail as the stream's end (stopper_wakes_a_parked_read, a_stopper_wakes_and_fails_a_parked_read).

Public API impact

  • moq-net (breaking):
    • poll::RecvStream has a new required associated type Credit, and its read methods return Option<Self::Credit> instead of a byte count.
    • poll::Session::poll_credit_exhausted is a new required method.
    • poll::RecvStream has a new required associated type Stopper and method stopper(&self) -> Self::Stopper: a handle that stops the stream without borrowing it.
    • New items: transport::Credit, transport::Unheld, transport::MIN_RECEIVE_WINDOW, and the transport::Stopper trait (fn stop(&self, code: u32)), implemented for () for transports whose credit is Unheld.
    • poll::Boxable also requires Stopper: MaybeSend + MaybeSync.
    • The memory transport Config has a new receive_window field, and the memory transport gains memory::Stopper.
  • moq-quic: new CreditStats::unread, CreditStats::exhausted() and Connection::poll_credit_exhausted().
  • moq-tokio (breaking):
    • driver::RecvStream::{read, read_chunk} and web::RecvStream::{read, read_chunk} now return credit.
    • New items: the transport::{HeldRecvStream, HeldSession, Credit} traits and wrapper, Error::ReceiveWindowTooSmall, and quic::driver::Stopper, quic::web::Stopper with stopper() on both receive streams.
    • HeldRecvStream requires type Stopper and fn stopper(&self).
    • The defaults changed.
  • moq-uring (breaking): quic::RecvStream::poll_read_held takes max and returns Bytes. New items: transport::{HeldRecvStream, HeldSession} (the first requires type Stopper and fn stopper(&self)), quic::{Connection, web::Session}::poll_credit_exhausted, and quic::Stopper, quic::web::Stopper (each with stop(&self, code: u32)) with stopper() on both receive streams. The defaults changed.
  • Config: relay configs with quic.receive_window below 64 MiB plus 16 bytes now fail to start, on both backends.

Wire impact

None. This is QUIC flow control plus the existing STOP_SENDING and RESET_STREAM behavior, reusing the existing Evicted stream code. There is no MoQ format change and no draft update.

Tests

  • moq-net tests/integration/receive_credit.rs runs over a finite memory window, on lite and IETF versions:
    • the_less_urgent_partial_frame_gives_way
    • unidentified_headers_are_cancelled
    • partial_control_requests_are_cancelled
    • the_largest_unit_completes_under_pressure, where a window-sized frame completes while partial frames keep arriving
  • moq-net coding::Reader unit tests:
    • credit returns per complete unit
    • a peek keeps read-ahead credit with the next unit
    • abort returns the credit and discards the buffer
    • evicted parked readers free their read-ahead
    • a partial frame keeps its credit through eviction
    • a truncated frame keeps its credit until dropped
    • eviction stops the stream
  • moq-net pressure unit tests: victim order, sweeping dropped readers, and eviction_lets_go_without_the_reader, where the eviction returns the credit, stops the stream once, and the stopped reader hears of it on its next poll. Also buffered_bytes_are_freed_before_their_credit_returns and a_release_in_flight_spares_the_next_stream.
  • moq-net parked-reader regressions, which fail without self-contained eviction: an_evicted_tail_waiting_on_its_fill_lets_go and an_evicted_prefix_waiting_on_its_link_cost_lets_go.
  • moq-quic: unit tests for exhaustion, gaps, unread bytes and stall edges.
  • moq-tokio:
    • The driver unit tests filling_the_window_with_held_credit_is_reported_once and stopper_wakes_a_parked_read.
    • The end-to-end tests tests/integration/receive_credit.rs (lite_partial_frame_gives_way, ietf_partial_frame_gives_way), over native QUIC with a 256 KiB client window.
    • Window validation tests.
  • moq-uring:
    • tests/integration/credit.rs covers a 4 KiB stream window under a 32 KiB connection window and asserts the exhaustion edges, and a_stopper_wakes_and_fails_a_parked_read.
    • The end-to-end test tests/integration/receive_credit.rs (partial_frame_gives_way).
    • The relay test a_receive_window_below_the_largest_message_is_refused.
  • The end-to-end tests time out without recovery. I checked this by stubbing poll_credit_exhausted to pend on each backend.
  • Results:
    • On this head, just check passes: 7817 Rust tests plus the binding suites, with fmt, clippy and rustdoc clean. TS validation fails on the mp2 PID 0x101 gap, a regression on main.
    • On an earlier head, one moq-gst test, a_refused_redial_posts_a_bus_error_after_playback, failed with AddrInUse on 3 consecutive runs at high host load, then passed 3 of 3 on this branch and on the base. I read it as a pre-existing race. Relay::stop waits for its task, but StreamListeners::drop aborts the accept loops without awaiting them, so the port frees asynchronously. Nothing in this PR changes that path.
    • just test interop --all passes on all lanes.
    • bursts_cross_a_transport_peer (io_uring), failed 1 of 60 local runs on 8d22af6 and 2 of 30 on 9c14af1, and 0 of 30 on main. Its two earlier failing shaper seeds fail about half the time when replayed on both main and this branch, with the same "route was withdrawn" panic, so it is the seed-dependent flake on main.

Benchmarks

moq-tokio benchmark_held_reads (nightly) compares a plain read against a held read whose credit drops straight away, over 256 MiB per mode. It reports ns per read, plain/held, as the best of 3, at a host load of about 13:

max chunk run 1 run 2 run 3
1200 552.6 / 608.6 668.3 / 645.3 775.0 / 729.1
16 KiB 1204 / 1115 1262.6 / 1395.9 1487.4 / 1502.5
64 KiB 1085.7 / 1075.4 1554.1 / 1443.8 1495.8 / 1451.7

The difference is within noise, so the tokio driver has one read path. The stream-count sweep is #5675's benchmark_receive_credit. Self-contained eviction does not touch this path: the lock it adds is in moq-net's reader, measured next.

moq-net benchmark_tracked_reads (nightly, new) decodes 1000-byte size-prefixed units from a synthetic stream, so only the reader costs. It reports ns per unit, untracked/tracked, as the best of 5:

max read before (reader-owned credit) after (credit in the Hold)
1200 25.0 / 27.4 27.6 / 54.5
16 KiB 25.0 / 27.4 27.5 / 54.7
64 KiB 30.3 / 31.6 39.5 / 64.9

Holding credit where the eviction can reach it costs about 27 ns per unit: roughly three uncontended lock pairs, one per read and one per released unit.

Moving the buffer into the same slot, so eviction frees it too, re-measured pinned to one core at a host load of about 5, best of 5 over two runs:

max read credit in the Hold buffer and credit in the Hold
1200 26.7 / 52.3 27.9 / 60.3
16 KiB 26.7 / 52.2 27.7 / 60.5
64 KiB 27.9 / 54.8 28.0 / 63.2

That is about 8 ns more per tracked unit, from one more lock pass per decode attempt.

Giving a partial frame's credit to its HeldFrame was measured with new frame columns in the same benchmark: each unit read into a group frame and finished, pinned to one core at a host load of about 2, best of 5 over two alternating runs, in ns per frame, untracked/tracked:

max read credit in the slot credit in the frame
1200 346.3 / 392.1 341.9 / 413.1
16 KiB 345.9 / 392.7 341.3 / 413.0
64 KiB 346.6 / 392.2 342.1 / 412.6

A tracked frame costs about 20 ns more, from one Arc clone and two counter updates per frame, or about 5% of a frame's cost. Decoded messages and untracked frames are unchanged within noise. benchmark_held_reads on the same runs is unchanged within noise (1200: 528.1/585.2 to 519.1/567.2; 16 KiB: 1002.4/1017.4 to 1002.5/1027.1; 64 KiB: 1007.8/1044.1 to 1019.0/1037.6), since it measures the driver below moq-net. No lock-free shape avoids it. A reader that keeps its credit out of the shared slot between calls cannot have that credit taken while it is parked, which is exactly the bug. Any shared slot pays at least one atomic acquire and release per access. A spinlock, whose unlock is a plain store, measured no better within noise (54.3 to 75.5 tracked, at a higher host load). Against a real QUIC read of 550 to 1500 ns (above), that is under 5% per read, or about 0.03 ns per byte.

moq-net benchmark_victim (nightly) times one victim choice over streams spread across broadcasts, in ns per stream. "Before" is a linear search of the broadcasts seen so far, which Codex flagged as quadratic. "After" sums by path in one pass:

streams broadcasts quadratic one pass self-contained
1024 1 4.0 5.4 37.1
1024 1024 884.4 77.4 106.6
16384 1 4.2 6.5 34.5
16384 64 57.5 20.5 44.9
16384 1024 894.0 18.2 49.1
16384 16384 timed out 56.2 95.7

The "self-contained" column is this head, against "one pass" re-measured on the previous head the same day. The registry now holds Weak entries and reads each rank under its own lock, so a choice costs 30 to 40 ns more per stream. The cost per stream stays flat along both axes, and a choice runs once per stall, so 1.6 ms at 16384 streams is acceptable.

Not in this PR

The JavaScript sender against both native receivers, and the retained-bytes, throughput and latency sweep over streams, frame sizes and stream windows, moved to the stacked follow-up quest quest/m1/quic/receive-memory-coverage.md, added in this PR. Both need new harnesses: a small-window WebTransport server for a Bun sender, and a session-level benchmark.

Decisions

The maintainer settled these:

  • Default receive window: 128 MiB on both backends. The minimum stays at the legacy AnnounceInit size plus framing, and no protocol limit is lowered.
  • Trait names: the bridge traits are HeldRecvStream and HeldSession.
  • io_uring minimum: the relay enforces it at config load. The raw driver accepts any window, mirroring tokio, where the moq-tokio config validates and the raw driver does not.
  • Drill coverage: the drill's MAX_DATA lane is dropped, because a small connection window is now refused. A stream-window-only lane remains.

Known gaps

  • iroh, qmux (TCP and WebSocket), and browser WebTransport return credit as they read, so this PR adds no protection there. A Reader keeps its incomplete unit after the credit returns, so incomplete messages are bounded only by the stream limit, each up to the largest message. iroh's upstream quinn has no hook for holding credit. The iroh receive_window docs now say this instead of claiming the protection.
  • A moq-transport virtual control stream (drafts 14 to 16) reads Unheld credit, which its reader still counts as held. If one is ever the chosen victim, the eviction frees no real credit, so the stall does not re-signal. Control streams go last and real holders go first, so this needs every other holder gone. It predates this change.
  • Pre-session accept_setup readers are not tracked.
  • There is no runtime window-update path, so feat(relay): widen QUIC limits for cluster peers #5674 (peer limits) must respect MIN_RECEIVE_WINDOW.

Drop every moq-noq dependency. moq-tokio's QUIC backend now drives moq-quic
through quinn's async layer (`quic::driver`) with web-transport-moq folded in
as `quic::web`; moq-uring's sans-IO driver moves from moq-noq-proto to
moq-quic. Upstream noq stays only behind moq-tokio's `iroh` feature.

- The `noq` cargo feature is `quic` everywhere it was forwarded.
- `moq_tokio::noq::Error` is `moq_tokio::quic::Error`; `Error::Noq` is
  `Error::Quic`.
- moq-quic takes `moq_clock::Instant` and raises a once-per-connection
  Draining endpoint event, which backs the driver's `wait_all_draining`.
- qlog writes one trace per endpoint (per dial on moq-uring's connect side),
  since moq-quic holds one sink per transport config.
- Session stats report the congestion controller's bandwidth estimate.

The capsule reader maps a lost stream to UnexpectedEnd, so every ordinary
session close warned "failed to read capsule". A read error while the
connection is closed is now debug; one on a live connection still warns.

A moq-quic read can now keep its connection flow control credit:
`Chunks::hold` takes it as a `Credit`, and `Connection::release` returns
it. Stream credit still follows reads, so a finite stream window never
forces a whole message to fit. Every terminal path already returned only
unread bytes, so held bytes account once whether they are released
before or after the stream is reclaimed.

Credit too small to clear the usual MAX_DATA batching threshold is
announced once the peer is within that threshold of its limit, on
release or on the next arrival. Held credit may never add up to the
threshold, and the receiver ignores DATA_BLOCKED, so without this a
small release could leave the peer blocked indefinitely.

The tokio and io_uring drivers opt in per receive stream with `hold`
and return bytes with `release`; dropping the stream releases the rest.
io_uring's read-ahead is not releasable by the application and returns
on stop. `ConnectionStats::credit` reports held and still-available
credit.

Carry #5638's steering changes onto the renamed moq-quic drivers: the
shard CID comes from moq_sock::shard::cid, and moq-uring stops greasing
the QUIC bit on sharded endpoints.

Replace RecvStream::hold/release(bytes) in both drivers with a copying
poll_read_held that yields a driver Credit for exactly the bytes read.
Credit splits and merges, and dropping it returns the connection credit,
so over-release and cross-connection release cannot be written.

io_uring's poll_closed read-ahead now keeps its credit until the
application reads it: a plain read returns it, a held read takes it.

Endpoint::close now refuses attempts still queued for accept, and
wait_all_draining waits for accepts partway through Incoming::accept, so
a server shutdown cannot release the socket before those peers hear back.

The server socket retried every failed recv, so a persistent error spun
the endpoint task while tokio kept readiness asserted. Only WouldBlock
retries now, matching the driver's tokio runtime.

Also cap moq_quic at info like noq was, fix the driver doc example, and
point the moq-uring README at the just recipe.

Match the tokio driver and quinn: credit is read as stats().credit in both
drivers. The inherent stats() shadows the poll::Session trait's on concrete
calls, so the web test reads UDP bytes from it directly.

Head 98c7189 moves a tracked reader's buffer into the Hold slot beside its credit (2f5be7e), so an eviction frees the parked read-ahead too, and merges main. Please attack the lock discipline in rs/moq-net/src/pressure.rs (Locked, evict) and rs/moq-net/src/coding/reader.rs (Buffer): whether any read can land in a buffer an eviction already emptied, and whether credit can return for bytes still allocated.

An eviction published its flag before taking the slot lock, so a read already
under the lock could keep bytes whose credit it then dropped, and it dropped
the credit before the buffer. It now sets the flag under the lock and frees
the buffer first. Abort discards the buffer with its credit too, since a
reader retained after its abort kept memory whose credit had returned.

Head 9c14af1 sets the eviction flag under the slot lock, frees the buffer before its credit on eviction and abort, and makes abort discard the buffer. Please check the invariant that freed memory never trails returned credit across rs/moq-net/src/pressure.rs and rs/moq-net/src/coding/reader.rs.

Bytes a reader moved out of its buffer into a partial frame left their credit
in the slot, so an eviction returned it while the frame still held them. The
slot now keeps the unit's credit apart from the buffer's: an eviction frees
the buffer and its credit, and the unit's returns once the reader, woken by
the eviction, gives the frame up.

568-575: 🚀 Performance & Scalability | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

Share one Arc<PathOwned> per subscription instead of allocating one per stream.

TrackState::rank calls std::sync::Arc::new(self.broadcast.clone()) for every data stream. It is called from recv_group (Line 3663) and recv_fill (Line 4221). Each call clones the path and allocates a new Arc.

Rank::Media in pressure.rs says the broadcast is shared, "since every group stream of a subscription names the same one". victim() relies on that: it adds up a run of entries with Arc::ptr_eq before it hashes the path. With a new Arc on every stream, that shortcut never applies on the IETF path. Every media entry then costs a HashMap lookup. The ranking result stays correct, but the benchmarked fast path is never used, and each group stream also pays a path clone.

Store the broadcast as Arc<PathOwned> in TrackState, or keep a cached Arc next to it, and clone that Arc in rank.

♻️ Proposed refactor
 	fn rank(&self, subscribe: RequestId, group: u64, start: u64) -> Rank {
 		Rank::Media {
-			broadcast: std::sync::Arc::new(self.broadcast.clone()),
+			broadcast: self.broadcast_rank.clone(),
 			priority: crate::priority::Priority::new(self.priority, subscribe.0, group)
 				.with_order(self.order)
 				.with_start(start),
 		}
 	}

Add broadcast_rank: std::sync::Arc<PathOwned> to TrackState, and set it in TrackState::pending from broadcast.

An evicted stream's partial unit now returns its credit only when its reader
wakes, so a fill reported in between would cancel a second stream for credit
already on its way back. Eviction answers such a fill with the release in
flight instead.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A stop produces no readable event, so a read parked on the stream never
heard of an eviction's stop. Both stoppers now wake it, and the uring read
fails rather than taking the discarded tail as the stream's end. uring's
Stopper gains a public stop to match tokio's.

IETF track ranks now share the broadcast's Arc instead of cloning its path,
and the quest's test paths point at the integration directory.

Head 8d22af6 keeps a partial frame's credit in the slot apart from the read-ahead's, so evict frees only the read-ahead and its credit and the frame's credit returns on abort; eviction then waits out that release instead of cancelling a second stream. Both QUIC stoppers now wake a parked read. Please check that freed memory never trails returned credit on every exit from coding::Reader.

…ns its bytes

A partial frame's credit was released by hand at the end of
`poll_read_frame`, before the caller aborted the frame still holding those
bytes, so an eviction, a premature FIN or a transport error returned credit
for memory that was still allocated. Each exit needed its own fix.

The credit now travels as a `Lent` inside a `HeldFrame`, which pairs it with
the `ProducerOwned` filling it. The frame is declared first, so finishing,
aborting or dropping the frame frees the payload and then returns its
credit, on every path alike. `release_unit` and the slot's unit credit are
gone. The slot frees what it owns through `consume`, `hand_off`, `clear` and
`evict`, each dropping the bytes before their credit.

`benchmark_tracked_reads` gains frame columns, untracked and tracked.

@codex review

Head 4dcd59c makes credit ownership structural: a partial frame's credit is a Lent inside the HeldFrame that owns its bytes, so it returns only as the frame finishes, aborts or drops, and the reader no longer releases credit by hand. The remaining release points are Lent::drop, the slot's consume, hand_off, clear and evict (each freeing bytes before credit), and untracked readers, which return credit as they read. Please check that none of them returns credit for bytes still allocated by a partial unit.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

poll_closed turns a Stopper stop into a clean end-of-stream.

poll_chunk now checks recv_stopped before it treats Read::Finished as the end of the stream (Line 322). poll_closed does not have this check. After Stopper::stop_code, moq-quic reports the stream as gone, so Self::read returns Read::Finished.

Inner::stop_recv wakes every waiter in the stream's readable list. A poll_closed waiter parks in that list too (Lines 463 and 476). When that waiter runs after the stop, it sets self.finished = true. The next poll_read then returns Ok(None) from the self.finished branch (Line 315). The read does not fail as stopped. The Stopper documentation promises that failure, and the discarded tail reads as the stream's end.

Apply the same guard in poll_closed. Mark the stream stopped and resolve the watch, but do not set finished.

The closed-watch read ahead past a Stopper's stop marked the stream

stopped. It now records the stop, as a read does.

Discard read-ahead bytes when poll_closed observes an external stop.

If poll_closed filled backlog before Stopper::stop, this branch marks the stream stopped but leaves those bytes and their credit in place. The next poll_read drains backlog before it checks the stop, so it returns bytes instead of the stopped-stream error. Clear backlog and release backlog_credit on this path, as stop_code does.

P2 Badge Re-rank standalone FETCH data as media

When this is a standalone group FETCH, the earlier group_fetch branch returns before reaching this rank update, leaving the stream at the dispatcher's Rank::Unidentified. If incomplete standalone FETCH data and live group data exhaust the receive window, victim selection cancels every Media stream before any unidentified stream, so even a low-priority cache fetch holding most of the credit can cause a live group to be discarded first. Carry the fetch's broadcast and priority in GroupFetch and re-rank its data stream before recv_group_fetch starts consuming objects.

Make the evicted-tail test expect Error::Evicted.

The ordinary test recipe includes library unit tests through cargo nextest run --locked --tests. After pressure.evict(), the parked tail returns Err(Error::Evicted), so the final success .expect(...) panics and blocks the routine Rust test workflow.

Review comment at @rs/moq-net/src/ietf/subscriber.rs around lines 11085 - 11123:
Update the final result handling in
`an_evicted_tail_waiting_on_its_fill_lets_go` to expect the parked tail’s
`recv_group` call to return `Err(Error::Evicted)` after eviction, rather than
expecting success. Keep the timeout assertion that verifies the tail returns
promptly.

Include the FETCH start frame in its priority.

Priority::cmp uses start to rank streams from the same group, and eviction selects the greatest priority as the least useful stream. Two concurrent FETCH responses for the same group can request different start_frame values. The current code assigns both a start of 0, so a later-starting response can lose the tie-break and evict the earlier response instead.

Suggested fix

Review comment at @rs/moq-net/src/lite/subscriber.rs around lines 6103 - 6110:
Update the Priority created in the FETCH response’s stream.reader.track call to
include request.frame_start() via the existing start-setting API, so concurrent
responses for the same group are ranked by their requested start frame.
