test(interop): load the local GStreamer plugin reliably - #6874
Interop sometimes rejects a successfully loaded local moq-gst plugin. The gst-inspect | grep -q probe closes its reader early, so pipefail interprets the producer's SIGPIPE as a load failure. Reproduced 3 times in 500 real inspections with pipeline statuses 141 0.
Approach
Reuse the packaging smoke probe for interop, capture inspection output before checking both factories, and retain inspection diagnostics in the run directory. Remove the same early-closing output pipe from the native-JS success check. Delete the completed quest and its link.
Impact
Public API and wire: none.
Alternatives
Kept the existing plugin and registry isolation. No build retries or registry workarounds are needed. Reusing the smoke probe avoids maintaining two discovery implementations.
Validation
Plugin build and three regression cases pass: large output, missing factory, and failed inspection despite matching factory names.
The large-output regression fails against the original script.
100 real plugin loads through fresh isolated registries pass.
just ci origin/quest/plan-complete-followups passes.
just test interop --publishers rust --subscribers gst passes, including eight protocol prerequisites, positive and swapped-tone media, authorization refusal, finished media, FETCH close, and finite tails. The harness emits publisher cleanup warnings while reporting all checks passed.
Follow-ups
Stacked on #6850, targeting its branch while it remains open. No additional work identified.
Reuse the packaging smoke probe for interop discovery and retain load diagnostics. Avoid early-closing producer pipes under pipefail, cover large inspection output and failure cases, and retire the completed quest.
Co-Authored-By: Codex <noreply@openai.com>
No actionable bugs found in the changed code. Reusing the isolated smoke probe is simpler than maintaining a second discovery implementation, and replacing early-closing pipelines with captured-output checks addresses SIGPIPE without adding retries or weakening failure detection. The regression cases cover large output, a missing factory, and a failing inspection even when both names appear.
Verification limits: static review of the diff and surrounding smoke/interoperability harness code; I did not run builds, tests, or real GStreamer loads.

Walkthrough
The changes add and revise quest plans across milestones M0–M2. They also update GStreamer smoke checks, add tests for factory discovery and inspection failures, and run those checks from interop setup and the test harness.

moq-dev/moq#6850 merged and GitHub retargeted this PR to main. Merged main in (no rebase); the stacked quest-planning files now match main, so the diff is only this fix plus deleting quest/m1/test-flakes-2/gst-plugin-load.md and its link, which this fix completes. quest check --base origin/main passes.
