feat(mux)!: publish HLS records by default - #6937
#6783 made HLS segment records opt-in per catalog (catalog::Config::with_hls, off by default). Only the CLI's own imports could opt in (import --hls), so broadcasts from the RTMP, SRT, and WebRTC gateways, the native bindings, and every other moq-mux publisher lost HLS export.
The opt-in had two reasons: cost and a cross-rendition alignment promise. #6783 itself dropped the alignment (each rendition cuts its own pts grid), and MoQ tracks are pulled, so a record track nobody subscribes to costs only in-process bookkeeping.
Approach
moq_mux::catalog::Config::default() publishes records cut by hls::Config::default(); with_hls(None) opts out.
moq import --hls is deleted: every import publishes records, including import rtmp, srt, and rtc, which used to refuse the flag.
Tests drop the opt-ins that only re-enabled the default; the two that need no records (nothing_publishes_hls_when_disabled, clock_is_advertised_without_hls) pass with_hls(None).
The FLV importer retires a track it replaces on a config change, along with its HLS record track, as the TS importer already does on PMT revisions. With records on by default, an RTMP publisher that keeps changing its config otherwise held one record track per change for the life of the connection.
Every container importer (fMP4, MKV, FLV, TS) retires its tracks' HLS records when it drops, after ending each track that has not ended, so its last frame is flushed. An abort leaves its records to the catalog, whose own abort fails them rather than ending them as a complete recording. Each importer mints a fresh name per track, so nothing enrolls those names again. This fixes moq import hls, which replaces its fMP4 importer on every new EXT-X-MAP and otherwise held one record track per init generation. A rendition dropped by its own owner still keeps its records for a re-enrollment, as before.
catalog::Producer::retire is public. GStreamer moqsink calls it whenever a pad finalizes mid-run (caps renegotiation, pad release, failure): the run never publishes that name again, so caps churn no longer accumulates record tracks. A run's end still keeps its tracks until the catalog closes.
The HLS segmenter queues at most one declared cut per group (Codex P1). Before this, a source declaring segments without sync samples queued one cut per segment for as long as a group stayed open. The next group ends the segment at the earliest pending cut, so a later one added nothing. Every segment start, including one at the ceiling or after a skipped group, now also spends the cuts it reached.
Tests reproduce both leaks: changed_map_discontinuity_publishes_a_fresh_identity (moq-hls) now checks the replaced generation's records end, renegotiation_retires_the_old_records (moqsink) checks a renegotiated pad's old records end, and config_churn_keeps_flat_state (FLV) checks a dropped importer flushes its last frame and retires its records.
Quests: hls-opt-in-gateways is deleted (superseded), m2/js-hls targets publishing by default from @moq/publish, and time-addressing/consumers now deletes the records, the catalog hls field, and with_hls once the export lists segments from group starts and ends.
Impact
Breaking (moq-mux):catalog::Config::default() now publishes a <track>.hls record track and an hls catalog field for every video and audio rendition. To keep the old behavior, call .with_hls(None). The signature of Config::with_hls(impl Into<Option<hls::Config>>) is unchanged.
Breaking (moq-cli):import --hls is removed. Drop the flag; records are always published.
moq-mux:catalog::Producer::retire(&self, track: &str) is now public, for an owner that drops a track whose name it never publishes again.
moq-mux: dropping a container importer (fMP4, MKV, FLV, TS) now ends each of its tracks that has not ended, flushing its last frame, instead of leaving them unfinished, and finishes their HLS record tracks.
An application track named <rendition>.hls now collides with the record track and fails that rendition, unless the application opts out.
Decisions
Maintainer decision (2026-10-27): records are on by default until time addressing (quest/m1/time-addressing) lets the HLS export list segments straight from group start PTS. At that point the record tracks, the opt-in, and A/V alignment all go away.
The CLI flag is deleted rather than flipped to --no-hls: nothing needs to opt out, and the records themselves are slated for removal.
Maintainer decision (2026-10-27), on publishers that replace a track under a fresh name (Codex P2):
✅ Each container importer retires the names it minted when it drops, which fixes moq-hls with no new API, and catalog::Producer::retire becomes public for moqsink, which names its own tracks.
Make retire public only, and call it from moq-hls and moqsink (moq-hls would need the replaced importer's track names).
Do (1)'s importer drop only, and defer moqsink to a quest.
A dropped importer ends its tracks before retiring, so its last frame is flushed rather than left on a track that never ends. Only an importer's own drop retires: a rendition dropped by an application keeps its records, so its name can return with the numbering continued.
Alternatives
Add an opt-in to each gateway builder and binding (the deleted hls-opt-in-gateways quest): more API in every language for a feature scheduled to disappear.
Follow-ups
The encoders (moq-video, moq-audio) and the native bindings (moq-ffi, moq-c) also mint a fresh name per producer, so an application that keeps replacing producers on one broadcast holds a record track per replacement until the broadcast ends. That churn is application-driven rather than network-driven; they could call the now-public retire if it matters.
moq publish capture encodes on demand from the media tracks, but the HLS export reads a rendition's records before subscribing to its media, so an HLS viewer alone never starts capture (CodeRabbit). The same was true with --hls before this PR; record-track demand could count as media demand.
Rust catalog publishers now publish HLS records by default, with with_hls(None) as the opt-out. The CLI import --hls option and its propagation were removed. Importer and GStreamer track lifecycle changes end tracks and retire catalog records during replacement, abort, or teardown. Tests and documentation were updated to reflect the default and retirement behavior; documentation also distinguishes the current @moq/publish behavior.

Publishing HLS records by default exposes three problems to long-running or failing publishers. Dropped tracks accumulate record state, failed imports can read as complete recordings, and HLS-only viewers of captured sources may never start playback. Resolve these before merging, or explicitly accept them.

Retire replaced FLV record tracks before enabling HLS by default
For an RTMP publisher that repeatedly changes its audio or video configuration, this default now causes unbounded retained state even without subscribers. In container/flv/import.rs, replace_audio and replace_video finish the old producer and mint a unique track name on each configuration change, but never call catalog.retire. Meanwhile, hls::Tracks retains every enrolled name and its record-track producer after its recorder drops, specifically to support re-enrollment. Alternating two valid AAC sequence headers therefore keeps allocating record tracks for the lifetime of one RTMP connection; previously the gateway's default disabled this bookkeeping. Retire the sidecars when these permanently replaced media tracks are dropped so retention follows live ownership.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Agreed, and reproduced: alternating two AVC and two AAC configs for 100 rounds left 200 record tracks held for 2 live renditions.
Fixed in 6c68a74 and 00e0326. replace_video/replace_audio now finish the old producer, drop it, and call catalog.retire on its name, as the TS importer already does on PMT revisions. config_churn_keeps_flat_state asserts that only the live renditions keep records, and that a replaced track still flushes its last frame and ends.
I checked the other publishers for the same replace-without-retire pattern:
TS (and SRT, which uses it): already retires on every route end, refusal, and remap.
fMP4 and MKV: declare tracks once; a second moov or Tracks element is refused.
WebRTC: one bridge per mid, never replaced within a session.
RTSP: each run is a fresh broadcast and catalog.
FFI/C bindings: finished producers keep their renditions advertised, so their records follow a live catalog entry.
GStreamer moqsink: same leak. A caps renegotiation finalizes the pad's producer and publishes under a fresh name (name/<n> or a generated one), and nothing enrolls the old name again. catalog::Producer::retire is pub(crate), so the fix needs new public API. That decision is open in the PR description.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
The moqsink half is fixed in cd3660b: catalog::Producer::retire is public now, and Pad::finalize calls it for every mid-run finalize (caps renegotiation, pad release, failure). Names guarantees the run never publishes that name again. A run's end still holds its tracks until the catalog closes. renegotiation_retires_the_old_records reproduces the leak with a pad renegotiating H.264 to VP8, and checks that the old record track ends.
Confirmed the existing P1 FLV/RTMP sidecar-retention finding, rather than duplicating its inline comment. rs/moq-mux/src/container/flv/import.rs:575-592 finishes replaced media and allocates fresh names, while hls::Tracks retains their sidecars for re-enrollment. With HLS now enabled by default (catalog/producer.rs:333), repeated valid configuration changes retain unbounded state for a connection even without subscribers. Retire permanently replaced sidecars after releasing their recorders; cover repeated alternating configurations with a bounded-live-tracks test.
Direction: one shared default plus the existing Rust opt-out is simpler than adding temporary HLS switches to every gateway and binding. CLI removal and the documented track-name collision tradeoff are consistent with that choice. No additional actionable bugs found in the changed default, CLI plumbing, and relevant recording lifecycle inspected.
Verification: static source/diff and review-thread inspection only; I did not run builds, tests, or gateway interoperability checks.
A publisher that keeps changing its audio or video config made the FLV
importer mint a new track per change while hls::Tracks kept every
replaced name and its record track, growing state for the life of the
connection now that records are on by default.

The retire helper's unbounded generic resolved finish() through Deref to
the bare net track, skipping the container flush. Bound it like the
producer impl and cover the replaced track's last frame.

Retire HLS records when replacing an imported init generation
For a long-running moq import hls source that repeatedly changes EXT-X-MAP, enabling records unconditionally causes retained state to grow with every init generation, even without subscribers. TrackState::ensure_map in rs/moq-hls/src/import.rs finishes and replaces the previous fMP4 importer; each replacement allocates fresh media track names, but neither fMP4 finish nor rendition drop calls catalog.retire. Consequently, hls::Tracks keeps every obsolete name, record producer, and record window for the broadcast's lifetime. Retire these permanently replaced tracks' sidecars, as the FLV replacement path now does, so retention follows live ownership.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Agreed, this is the same pattern as the FLV finding: ensure_map replaces its fMP4 importer on each new EXT-X-MAP, the new importer mints new names, and nothing retires the old ones.
Unlike FLV it crosses a crate boundary. catalog::Producer::retire is pub(crate), and moq-hls doesn't know the replaced importer's track names. The GStreamer sink has the same problem on caps renegotiation. Both are now under "Decisions needed" in the PR description, with options. The recommended one is to have each container importer retire the names it minted when it drops, which fixes this path with no API change.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Fixed in cd3660b, per the maintainer's pick: every container importer (fMP4, MKV, FLV, TS) now retires its tracks' HLS records when it drops or aborts. It first ends each track that has not ended, so the last frame is flushed. Each importer mints a fresh name per track, so ensure_map replacing its fMP4 importer no longer leaves a record track behind per EXT-X-MAP generation. No new API was needed for this path.
changed_map_discontinuity_publishes_a_fresh_identity reproduced the leak: it now subscribes to the replaced generation's record track and checks that it ends. The same-map discontinuity test checks the live generation keeps its records.

Automated review by review (OpenAI)
Reviewed commit: 00e0326f9615a9566881a9cd0e4d7ed547edcecc, against my prior review at 829251a3a424d47928f7488cb75210e80562357e, separating merged base changes from the FLV fix.
Fixed: the prior FLV/RTMP retention finding. Both replacement paths now finish and drop the old producer before retiring its sidecar. The new alternating audio/video configuration test checks two retained record tracks for two live renditions and that the replaced video still flushes and ends.
Still needs resolution: the author-identified GStreamer instance, not a new independent finding. rs/moq-gst/src/sink/pad.rs:903-926 drops the finalized media owner without retiring its records; caps rebuilding creates a fresh name, so repeated renegotiation retains one sidecar per replacement until the catalog closes. Apply retirement to mid-run replacement/finalization and test repeated caps changes. Keep whole-run shutdown's deliberate rendition retention distinct. Exposing the existing checked retirement operation is the smaller option; a consuming track API offers stronger ownership guarantees if worth the added surface.
Overall direction remains sound, and the FLV fix is appropriately narrow. The GStreamer API decision is explicitly unresolved, so this is not a clean bill for all publishers. No additional actionable bugs found in the inspected delta. Static inspection only; tests/builds were not run.
Each container importer (fMP4, MKV, FLV, TS) mints a fresh name for every
track, so when it drops it ends each track, flushing its last frame, and
retires the track's HLS records. This stops `moq import hls` from holding
one record track per `EXT-X-MAP` generation.
`catalog::Producer::retire` is now public, and moqsink calls it whenever a
pad finalizes mid-run, so caps renegotiation no longer accumulates records.

Bound pending segment cuts before enabling records by default
For a remote fMP4 HLS source that sends one sync sample followed by styp segments with increasing timestamps but no further sync samples, this default enables unbounded retained state without any subscribers. In container/fmp4/import.rs, unwrap() calls producer.boundary(earliest) for each declared segment; Segmenter::cut() appends each boundary to cuts, but that queue drains only when a new group starts. Non-sync video samples keep the existing group open indefinitely, so neither the segment-duration ceiling nor the new importer-drop cleanup bounds this accumulation during a live import. Bound pending-cut ownership before making this bookkeeping unconditional for ordinary imports.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Agreed; with records on by default, every fMP4 import exposes this. Fixed in d932a36. Segmenter::cut now queues at most one cut per group: once a cut is pending and no group has started since, a later cut is ignored. The next group ends the segment at the earliest pending cut, and both callers (fMP4 unwrap and passthrough) declare a fragment's cut just before writing it, so real sources behave the same. cuts_without_a_group_queue_one declares 999 segments inside one group and checks that the queue holds one cut and the next group still starts a segment. explicit_cuts_override_the_grid now interleaves its cuts with groups the way the callers do, rather than declaring them all up front.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
The ceiling and skipped-group paths are fixed in 3449be3, as the follow-up review pointed out. Previously only the cut branch spent cuts, so segments started at the ceiling or after a skipped sequence left them queued. begin now drains every cut the new segment reached, however the segment starts. A cut stays queued only while it is ahead of every segment start, and both fMP4 callers declare a cut at the earliest pts of the fragment they write next, so the queue stays at a cut or two. every_segment_start_spends_its_cuts runs the reviewer's scenario (a 1 s declaration, then groups 3 s apart, each taking the ceiling branch) and a skipped group, and checks that the queue empties every time.

Reviewed commit: 0857502deccd655d5e2ffe8e1698c760afb4daa2, compared with my last published review at 00e0326f9615a9566881a9cd0e4d7ed547edcecc, excluding merged main changes.
Fixed: the previously noted GStreamer caps-renegotiation retention and the independently reported HLS init-generation leak. Importer teardown releases the recorder before retirement, while GStreamer distinguishes mid-run finalization from whole-run retention. The added tests inspect old-record termination and last-frame flushing; the prior FLV replacement fix remains intact.
Still actionable: confirmed the independent P1 pending-cut accumulation finding, rather than duplicating its inline comment. rs/moq-mux/src/container/fmp4/import.rs:1339-1341 forwards declared boundaries to Segmenter::cut, whose queue drains only on a new group. Increasing segment timestamps without another video sync sample therefore accumulate cuts for the lifetime of the importer; drop cleanup does not bound this live state. Bound/coalesce pending cuts (or reject overflow), with a long non-sync-segment regression. This is an existing optional-recording weakness exposed by enabling records by default, not a new teardown regression.
Direction: shared default recording and checked retirement remain simpler than per-gateway opt-ins; the teardown additions appropriately follow ownership. No additional actionable bugs found in this delta. Static source/diff and test inspection only; builds, tests, and streaming interoperability were not run.
A source declaring segments without sync samples queued a cut per segment
for as long as one group stayed open. The next group ends the segment at
the earliest pending cut, so a later one adds nothing until a group starts.

Retire HLS records for permanently dropped direct producers.
catalog::Producer::media enrolls direct video and audio producers in HLS. Dropping the producer stops recording, but it does not remove the HLS state or record track. A long-lived catalog can therefore retain one record track for every permanently dropped name.
Call the public catalog.retire(name) after dropping a direct producer whose name will not be reused. Document this obligation in the direct-producer API and migration guide. Do not retire every rendition unconditionally in Drop: HLS intentionally retains state so a re-enrolled name can continue its record numbering.

Review comment at @rs/moq-mux/src/catalog/producer.rs at line 333:
Update the direct-producer API documentation and migration guide to require
calling public catalog.retire(name) after dropping a producer whose name will
not be reused; preserve HLS state for names that may be re-enrolled, and do not
retire renditions unconditionally in Drop.

Declining in this PR. Keeping a dropped rendition's records is deliberate (#6783, dropping_a_rendition_frees_its_name and re_enrolling_continues_the_numbering), and the maintainer chose to retire only from importers, which mint a fresh name per track, plus moqsink. catalog::Producer::retire is now public with its contract in its doc line, so a direct producer that never reuses a name can call it. The remaining direct publishers (the encoders and the native bindings) churn names only when the application replaces producers, not under network input. That is listed as a follow-up in the PR description.

@kixelated Understood. Retaining HLS records supports re-enrollment with continuous numbering. The public catalog::Producer::retire documentation already defines the permanent-retirement contract.
I accept deferring the remaining direct-publisher lifecycle work. I overstated its urgency for this PR and will not press for the documentation changes here.
Would you like a separate follow-up issue for the direct publishers, or is the PR description sufficient tracking?

@kixelated Understood. The PR description is sufficient tracking for this follow-up. I will not create an issue or plan a quest; the maintainer will decide whether to plan one.

Reviewed commit: d932a363195ddf672375a7a2163a26ee5bdfc9fd, the single hls.rs change since my review of 0857502deccd655d5e2ffe8e1698c760afb4daa2.
Partially fixed: the existing P1 pending-cut retention finding. The new regression covers many declarations inside one group. However, rs/moq-mux/src/hls.rs:219-223 resets queued for every new group, while group() short-circuits elapsed >= self.ceiling() || self.boundary(...) before boundary() can discard old cuts. Thus a source with groups at or beyond the ceiling still appends one cut per group indefinitely. For a focused regression: on the default segmenter, report group 0 at 0 ms, cut(1000) then group 1 at 1000 ms (declaring a 1-second target); thereafter declare/report groups at 4000, 7000, 10000 ms, etc. Every 3-second step takes the ceiling branch, and the cut queue keeps growing. The skipped-group/restart branches likewise bypass its cleanup. Drain obsolete cuts whenever a new segment begins, or enforce a real bounded pending representation, and cover these paths. This is a remaining case of the earlier issue, not a new regression introduced by this commit; no duplicate inline comment added.
Direction: coalescing redundant declarations is a sensible small fix, but one insertion per group is not a total memory bound unless every segment-start path retires the old boundaries. The earlier importer/GStreamer fixes are unchanged. Static source and test inspection only; I did not run tests or builds. Other independent review threads are not resolved by this cut-only update.
A segment started at the ceiling or after a skipped group skipped the cut
check, so the cuts it reached stayed queued. Drain them whenever a segment
begins.

Reviewed commit: 3449be3b7e19cc342a9325d880dbeab5578090be, the single hls.rs update since my review of d932a363195ddf672375a7a2163a26ee5bdfc9fd; base unchanged.
Fixed: the residual ceiling/skipped-group cases of the existing P1 pending-cut retention finding. rs/moq-mux/src/hls.rs:258-263 now discards reached cuts in begin, covering ordinary boundaries, duration ceilings, skipped groups, and restarts. boundary still discards stale cuts and selects the same ordinary split. The new regression exercises the reported one-second declaration followed by three-second groups, plus a skipped group, asserting an empty queue after each start.
Direction: centralizing this invariant at segment creation is simpler and less error-prone than duplicating cleanup across branches. No new actionable bugs found in this delta. Earlier importer/GStreamer fixes are unchanged; unrelated independent review threads are outside this cut-only update. Static source/diff and test inspection only; I did not run tests or builds.
Retiring them finished the record tracks, so a failed import read as a
complete recording. The catalog's own abort fails them instead.

Reviewed commit: 3c30d78f4baf1a6b41259a84c1112f82bc07e14f, the single importer-abort change since 3449be3b7e19cc342a9325d880dbeab5578090be; base unchanged.
Fixed for catalog-aborted imports: the independent abort/retirement finding. The FLV, fMP4, MKV and TS abort paths no longer finish/remove their HLS records before the catalog can fail them. Their emptied ownership maps also prevent Drop from retiring those records afterward. I checked that the HLS importer subsequently aborts its catalog and the RTMP server/dial paths abort it first, so both orderings retain the error rather than a clean record-track end. This relies on the documented catalog abort; importer abort alone is not a per-track HLS abort API.
Direction: retaining catalog-owned failure propagation is a smaller fix than adding a separate per-name abort API for these whole-import failures. The earlier pending-cut retention fix remains unchanged. No new actionable bugs found in this delta. An importer-abort-then-catalog-abort regression checking the record consumer's error would protect this ordering; this commit adds no tests. Static source/diff inspection only; I did not run tests or builds. Other independent follow-up threads are not resolved by this update.
Maintainer decision (option 1): every container importer (fMP4, MKV, FLV, TS) ends its unended tracks on drop, flushing the last frame, and then retires their HLS records. This fixes moq import hls replacing its importer on each EXT-X-MAP. An abort leaves its records for the catalog's abort to fail.
catalog::Producer::retire is public. moqsink calls it from every mid-run Pad::finalize, so caps renegotiation no longer accumulates record tracks.
The HLS segmenter queues at most one cut per group, and every segment start spends the cuts it reached. This bounds a source that declares segments without sync samples.
Regression tests cover EXT-X-MAP churn (moq-hls), moqsink renegotiation, importer drop (FLV), and the cut queue.
Follow-ups in the description: direct publishers (encoders, bindings) that replace producers, and making HLS record demand start on-demand capture.

Problem
#6783 made HLS segment records opt-in per catalog (
catalog::Config::with_hls, off by default). Only the CLI's own imports could opt in (import --hls), so broadcasts from the RTMP, SRT, and WebRTC gateways, the native bindings, and every othermoq-muxpublisher lost HLS export. The opt-in had two reasons: cost and a cross-rendition alignment promise. #6783 itself dropped the alignment (each rendition cuts its own pts grid), and MoQ tracks are pulled, so a record track nobody subscribes to costs only in-process bookkeeping.
Approach
moq_mux::catalog::Config::default()publishes records cut byhls::Config::default();with_hls(None)opts out.moq import --hlsis deleted: every import publishes records, includingimport rtmp, srt, andrtc, which used to refuse the flag.nothing_publishes_hls_when_disabled,clock_is_advertised_without_hls) passwith_hls(None).abortleaves its records to the catalog, whose own abort fails them rather than ending them as a complete recording. Each importer mints a fresh name per track, so nothing enrolls those names again. This fixesmoq import hls, which replaces its fMP4 importer on every newEXT-X-MAPand otherwise held one record track per init generation. A rendition dropped by its own owner still keeps its records for a re-enrollment, as before.catalog::Producer::retireis public. GStreamermoqsinkcalls it whenever a pad finalizes mid-run (caps renegotiation, pad release, failure): the run never publishes that name again, so caps churn no longer accumulates record tracks. A run's end still keeps its tracks until the catalog closes.changed_map_discontinuity_publishes_a_fresh_identity(moq-hls) now checks the replaced generation's records end,renegotiation_retires_the_old_records(moqsink) checks a renegotiated pad's old records end, andconfig_churn_keeps_flat_state(FLV) checks a dropped importer flushes its last frame and retires its records.hls-opt-in-gatewaysis deleted (superseded),m2/js-hlstargets publishing by default from@moq/publish, andtime-addressing/consumersnow deletes the records, the cataloghlsfield, andwith_hlsonce the export lists segments from group starts and ends.Impact
catalog::Config::default()now publishes a<track>.hlsrecord track and anhlscatalog field for every video and audio rendition. To keep the old behavior, call.with_hls(None). The signature ofConfig::with_hls(impl Into<Option<hls::Config>>)is unchanged.import --hlsis removed. Drop the flag; records are always published.catalog::Producer::retire(&self, track: &str)is now public, for an owner that drops a track whose name it never publishes again.<rendition>.hlsnow collides with the record track and fails that rendition, unless the application opts out.Decisions
--no-hls: nothing needs to opt out, and the records themselves are slated for removal.moq-hlswith no new API, andcatalog::Producer::retirebecomes public formoqsink, which names its own tracks.retirepublic only, and call it frommoq-hlsandmoqsink(moq-hlswould need the replaced importer's track names).moqsinkto a quest.Alternatives
hls-opt-in-gatewaysquest): more API in every language for a feature scheduled to disappear.Follow-ups
moq-video,moq-audio) and the native bindings (moq-ffi,moq-c) also mint a fresh name per producer, so an application that keeps replacing producers on one broadcast holds a record track per replacement until the broadcast ends. That churn is application-driven rather than network-driven; they could call the now-publicretireif it matters.moq publishcapture encodes on demand from the media tracks, but the HLS export reads a rendition's records before subscribing to its media, so an HLS viewer alone never starts capture (CodeRabbit). The same was true with--hlsbefore this PR; record-track demand could count as media demand.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
