Plans the follow-ups and decisions from the 2026-10-28 /quest-spawn over m0/m1, decided one at a time with the maintainer.

New quests

Quest Size Where Source
moq-transport-22 FETCH cost M m1 #7141 measured +12.8% from #7042
Rust marks a lost listed group unknown S m1, after fetch-parity, one-group, subscribe-timestamps #7150
An idle track poll exits cheaply M m1 #7140
The browser baseline keeps its page logs XS m1 #7135
The publish controls stay visible without a preview XS m1 #7157
A stitched export survives a cancelled replacement S m1/ts-reliability #7137
moq-c API gaps S m1/c #7151, #7156
Watch caches audio codec support XS m1/push-to-talk #7155
Cargo aliases in nested checkouts XS m0/ci #7156
A malformed track says so downstream S m2 #7135
Branch checks lint examples S m2 #7142
Drop kio's epoch fence XS m2, waiting on crossbeam-rs/crossbeam#1352 #7134
Lock-free single-delivery writes M m2/perf #7141
JS publisher per-frame cost M m2/perf #7133

Folded into existing quests

  • m2/audit-size: the unexplained JS +6–8% and Python sdist +17% growth is first to check.
  • m2/release/c-retire: retire one size series without dropping the history.
  • m2/audio-bufferbloat-av: re-measure the AAC native rows after fix(test): start streams on the private null sink in tens of milliseconds #7138's null-sink fix.
  • m1/drop-set: a cancelled fetch holds the end open until expiry.
  • m1/bench-ci: bench/run.sh already gives each paired revision its own CARGO_TARGET_DIR; document that an A/B outside it needs one per tree.
  • m2/audit-compile-time: perf --no-scale, and measure edits through mbx.
  • m1/push-to-talk README: decide whether re-enabling retries a failed encoder. Its intended home, reenable.md, already landed in #7163.
  • m1/eager-encode README: document that @moq/room encodes while nobody watches.
  • m1/moxygen-pin-bump: corrected; #6729 merged and the patch is on main.

Decisions

Each was asked one at a time; ✅ marks the pick.

  • refactor(net)!: transport polls take kio waiters through &self #7042 regression: ✅ [M] in m1 · [M] in m0/nightly · wait for Nightly · skip
  • Rust End of Unknown Range: ✅ [S] m1 after the three publisher quests · no blockers · fold into fetch-parity · skip
  • Malformed track status: ✅ [S] m2 · [S] m1 · skip
  • Loom on crossbeam's ARM path before merge: ✅ skip, Nightly is enough · ARM loom in PR gate · forced path on x86
  • Crossbeam fence waiting quest: ✅ [XS] m2 · skip
  • Stitch follow-cancel panic: ✅ [S] m1/ts-reliability · [S] m2 · skip
  • C gaps: ✅ [S] m1/c, all three · skip the error code · skip
  • Idle poll exit: ✅ [M] m1 · [M] m2/perf · skip
  • Lock-free single-delivery write: ✅ [M] m2/perf · [M] m1
  • JS publisher per-frame cost: ✅ [M] m2/perf, without timer gaps · [M] m1 · include timer gaps · skip
  • ts::Restart in bindings, --program all, --passthrough: ✅ skip until needed · [M] m2 all three · [S] m2 bindings only
  • Baseline page logs: ✅ [XS] m1 · [XS] m2 · skip
  • Watch audio support cache: ✅ [XS] m1/push-to-talk · [XS] m2 · skip
  • Publish controls collapse: ✅ [XS] m1 · [XS] m2 · skip
  • Lint examples in just check: ✅ [S] m2, examples only · [S] m1, examples and benches · skip
  • Size growth: ✅ note in audit-size · [S] m1 quest · skip
  • Retire one size series: ✅ fold into c-retire · [XS] m2 · skip
  • AAC rows: ✅ note in bufferbloat-av · [XS] m1 · skip
  • Cancelled fetch holds the end: ✅ fold into drop-set · [S] m1 · skip
  • Paired target dirs: ✅ fold into bench-ci · skip
  • Compile measurement pitfalls: ✅ fold into audit-compile-time · rs/AGENTS.md · skip
  • Encoder recovery on unmute: ✅ fold into reenable (moved to the push-to-talk README, see above) · [XS] m1 · skip
  • @moq/room docs: ✅ fold into eager-encode · add a room opt-out · skip
  • Nested cargo aliases: ✅ [XS] m0/ci, string aliases · move agent worktrees · both
  • Not planned: ✅ confirmed. No quests for an on-demand attribute on <moq-publish>, #[every_poll], gofmt for the test Go clients, a real-GPU render assertion, idling the hidden camera pipeline, or CARGO_INCREMENTAL in the dotfiles. mbx's learned_incremental already compiles edited crates incrementally.

After merging main (2026-10-29)

  • moq-dev/moq#7194 dropped m1/ietf-fill-timeout, one of the three quests m1/ietf-publisher-unknown-range waits on. Its slot goes to one group, which replaced it and edits the same FETCH and fill paths. The test plan loses "both group orders", since a FETCH then lists at most one group.
  • m1/c/api-gaps now requires m1/c/announce-route (moq-dev/moq#7151, still open), which adds the announce epoch whose MOQ_ERROR_INVALID_CONFIG it matches (CodeRabbit).
  • m1/eager-encode: the room encodes while cameraEnabled and microphoneEnabled are on, not on join alone (CodeRabbit).

Decisions on the spawn's open PRs were recorded on those PRs, not here.

Automated review by review (OpenAI)

Reviewed commit: 1290603

No actionable planning bugs found. Direction is sound: scoped follow-ups preserve the existing canonical-content and cancellation contracts, require a loom check before a single-delivery lock-free path, and separate measured performance work from speculative fixes. The stitched-export quest appropriately asks for a deterministic reproduction before changing behavior; error propagation and C API changes explicitly account for public compatibility.

Reviewed the new/revised quests, relevant C API and audio-source code, and the publisher/cursor paths with an independent planning pass. The idle-poll shortcut's “every change” criterion must include timer, fill and subscription wake causes—not only newly appended data—as implementation proceeds.

Verification was static through GitHub. I did not reproduce benchmark numbers, run tests or validate upstream releases; these are implementation plans, not verified fixes.

Merge summary:

  • Reviews on head 1290603: Codex reacted 👍 (no findings), and the automated review on the maintainer's account found no actionable planning bugs. Its note that the idle-poll shortcut must account for timer, fill, and subscription wakeups is implementation guidance for whoever takes quest/m1/idle-poll-exit.md. It is not a plan defect, so I made no change.
  • quest check --base origin/main passes on this head (678 documents).
  • No changes were made during the merge. The decisions recorded in the body stand as the maintainer chose them.

Explanation

The description states the PR plans follow-up quests and decisions from a 2026-10-28 quest-spawn over m0/m1. It lists new quests with links to specific files, such as the m1 IETF fetch cost, Rust unknown range, and idle poll exit quests. It also covers folded findings into existing quests, such as audit-size, c-retire, and bench-ci, plus decisions on items not planned. This matches the changeset, which adds those quest files and edits the existing READMEs and quests.

Exercise both aliases in the regression check.

The planned cargo build-ffi --help check does not exercise the separate cargo moq alias. The cargo moq expansion places duplicated tokens after --, so that behavior remains uncovered. Add a cargo moq assertion to the same fixture or inspect both alias expansions.

22-24: Trivial · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Make deadline wakeups an explicit requirement of the shared exit.

The track revision is an example, not a required revision-only key. However, a revision-only implementation can bypass Misses::judge after a deferred deadline expires. State that timer and deadline invalidation must remain part of the exit condition while leaving the exact key design to implementation.

Suggested quest wording
- Add one early exit the whole path shares, keyed on something every change
- already bumps (for example a track revision the cursor last saw), rather
- than a short-cut per function.
+ Add one early exit the whole path shares, keyed on state that captures every

ietf-publisher-unknown-range waits on one-group, which replaced the dropped
fill-timeout quest. api-gaps waits on announce-route, which adds the announce
epoch. bench-ci notes run.sh already splits target dirs. eager-encode qualifies
room capture by its enabled controls.

Re-landing after the queue dropped it for merge_conflict.

  • Merged origin/main locally (5a960f3). The link-list conflicts in the quest READMEs resolved on their own.
  • 18b0580, aligning with main: moq-dev/moq#7194 dropped m1/ietf-fill-timeout, which m1/ietf-publisher-unknown-range required. m1/ietf-publisher-one-group replaced it and edits the same FETCH and fill paths, so it takes that slot.
  • The same commit fixes all three CodeRabbit findings: bench-ci notes that run.sh already splits target dirs, c/api-gaps now requires c/announce-route, and eager-encode says encoding follows cameraEnabled/microphoneEnabled.
  • Codex reviewed the new head with no findings. CodeRabbit's re-review left no open threads. Required checks pass, and quest check --base origin/main passes at 18b0580.

Automated review by review (OpenAI)

Reviewed commit: 18b0580

No new actionable planning bugs found in the substantive delta from 1290603, separating merged-main changes.

The existing findings are addressed: benchmark isolation is now documentation of an existing mechanism; C epoch error alignment explicitly depends on the announce-route API; room encoding is qualified by capture controls. The lost-group quest now depends on the one-group publisher work instead of the removed fill-timeout quest, and its test scope matches that narrowing.

Direction: these corrections keep the follow-ups aligned with actual prerequisites rather than adding redundant machinery. Verification: static comparison of the four changed plans, prerequisite quests, benchmark target isolation and room controls. No tests or benchmarks were run.

Merged main to clear the merge-queue conflict (the quest merge driver resolved the link lists). Since moq-dev/moq#7151 landed and deleted quest/m1/c/announce-route.md, quest/m1/c/api-gaps.md now describes moq_publication_announce's MOQ_ERROR_INVALID_CONFIG as current behavior and drops its Required section. moq_broadcast_request_prepare still returns MOQ_ERROR_INVALID_CODE, so the quest's work remains. quest check passes against origin/main. All review threads are resolved. Landing 2afc9d7.
