Finishes quest/m1/quic-api/waits.md. moq-dev/moq#7391 gave moq-quic its own waiter lists and poll_* forms, but moq-tokio's quic::driver, moq-uring's driver, and qmux still kept their own per-stream and per-connection waiter tables, fed by StreamEvent and the connection's Events. Every handle also kicked its driver after mutating the connection.
Approach
Consumers wait on moq-quic. moq-tokio's quic::driver, moq-uring's driver, and qmux now wait only through moq-quic's poll forms. They no longer have:
the readable/writable/finishing and blocked_readers/blocked_writers maps;
the accept/open/datagram/establish lists and the Notifys;
the stopped map and the event sweeps.
moq-tokio's futures hold a kio::Park. Its stopped() futures keep the stream's ID until the last of the stream and its futures drops, so the end that moq-quic keeps until release() still answers them.
New waits in moq-quic, for the last two event-shaped waits.Connection::poll_handshake_data replaces HandshakeDataReady, used by moq-tokio's Connecting::handshake_data. recv::Stream::poll_received_reset replaces the readable wake behind received_reset. Also new: Connection::error(), which says why the connection was lost.
Events deleted.StreamEvent is gone, and so are the Event variants a handle waited on (HandshakeDataReady, Connected, HandshakeConfirmed, ConnectionLost, Stream, DatagramReceived). QMux's Event and poll are gone too. StreamsState::notify's event-to-list mapping became direct wakes. Event keeps PathUpdated, which no handle waits on.
poll_transmit is the driver's wait. Both QUIC and QMux take the driver's waiter and return Poll. With nothing to send, it registers the waiter. These wake it:
a write, or the DATA_BLOCKED a blocked write queues;
a finish, a reset, or a stop;
a refused open (STREAMS_BLOCKED);
returned credit, from a read, a lease, a received reset, or set_limits;
a datagram, or a close.
Pacing and loss recovery stay on poll_timeout. Every handle-side kick is deleted. moq-uring keeps only its ingress wake, so a received datagram still re-arms timers. moq-tokio's and qmux's drivers read their own ingress, so they need none.
qmux close while output is blocked. qmux's Driver also registers on poll_closed every step, so a local close still starts the close bound while the transport holds output back. a_close_behind_a_stalled_peer_is_bounded covers this on paused time. It fails (3.9 s, over the 3 s bound) without the registration.
Tests count wakes. moq-quic's Event tests now count wakes with a counting waiter. New tests cover the handshake-data, received-reset, and transmit waits.
Acked prefix kept after a reset. A reset that frees its stream keeps the acknowledged prefix alongside its end. poll_acked still answers for that prefix after the Acked event's offset is gone.
Impact
Public API (moq-quic, breaking):
StreamEvent is gone, and so are Event::{HandshakeDataReady, Connected, HandshakeConfirmed, ConnectionLost, Stream, DatagramReceived}, mux::Event, and mux::Connection::poll.
New: Connection::poll_handshake_data, Connection::error, and recv::Stream::poll_received_reset.
Migration is in rs/moq-quic/MIGRATE.md (a table from each event to its wait), and the README's fork list is updated.
Public API (moq-tokio, moq-uring, qmux): unchanged. moq-tokio's open_uni/open_bi/accept_uni/accept_bi became async fn, with the same signatures for callers.
Behavior: after a local close, moq-uring's and qmux's stream, accept, and open waits fail at once with the close's error. Before, they failed when the close frame went out. moq-tokio already failed them at once. qmux's poll_open_request after a local close returns the close's error rather than Ok(None) (no credit).
Wire: none.
Decisions
✅ Local-close publication in moq-uring and qmux: (a) keep the latch (maintainer, 2026-11-01). moq-uring and qmux each keep their one local-close latch, closed with one WaiterList. They publish a close this side asked for to poll_closed only once the CONNECTION_CLOSE is staged (uring), or delivered with the transport shut (qmux). That is I/O behavior moq-quic can't see, and keeping it changes no behavior. The reason is now documented next to each latch (rs/moq-uring/src/quic/driver/connection.rsState::closed, rs/qmux/src/session.rsState::closed). The alternatives were for moq-quic's poll_closed to wait for the close packet to leave poll_transmit (a regression for qmux), or to resolve at close() and drop the guarantee.
Choices made without asking
External failures keep a driver-side error. moq-uring's socket dying and moq-tokio's endpoint driver going away keep a driver-side error that wins when handles report the connection error. The driver also calls moq-quic's close() so every parked waiter wakes. moq-quic gained no "fail with a foreign error" API.
Ingress wakes stay where ingress is another task's. moq-uring's endpoint kick after demuxing remains. It moves timers and may queue replies that no application call made, which poll_transmit's wait does not cover. moq-tokio's ingress already arrives on its own channel, and qmux's Driver (moq-dev/moq#7494) reads the transport itself, so neither keeps a driver waker list.
ShouldTransmit is still returned, but consumers ignore it.Chunks::finalize and the lease methods still return it. moq-quic now wakes the transmit waiter itself.
Fanout bench added to Nightly. The new bench runs in Nightly's rust-extra group, as sh/gh/nightly.test.py requires of every bench target. qmux drops rustc-hash, which only its waiter maps used.
The streams bench measures the waits now. The bench harness drives reads with real waiters and a run queue instead of events, so before/after numbers measure the whole change, not the lists alone.
Measurements
Base is origin/main at 406ab9a, head is this branch. Each side ran once, sequentially, from separate target directories. A single run is noisy: schedule/*, which this branch does not touch, moved 0.70x to 1.64x.
Driver fanout.rs/moq-tokio/benches/fanout.rs is new and uses only the unchanged public driver API, so the same file ran on both sides. It opens N uni streams at once on one connection, writes 1 KiB on each, and reads them all, so up to N waiters are parked.

No slope: the step from 256 to 1024 appears on both sides (1 MiB per iteration outgrows the window).
moq-quic/benches/streams.rs. The harness now drives reads with real waiters instead of events, so the end-to-end cases are not quite like for like. Nothing scales with stream count:
connection_blocked is flat or better from 1 to 1024 live writers (0.79x to 1.06x).
send_priority at 1024 streams is unchanged (1.00x to 1.02x, plus one base outlier).
set_priority showed 1.08x to 1.38x on the first run, but 0.96x to 0.97x on a rerun of that group alone.
The one consistent mild cost is send_write_size/window_16k, at 1.13x to 1.25x. Those are flow-control-blocked writes on a 16 KiB window, and the cost does not grow with streams.
Follow-ups
Already planned in quest/m1/quic-api/poll.md (moq-dev/moq#7568): remove the now-redundant ShouldTransmit from moq-quic's public API, and test moq-tokio's close while the socket is blocked.
A few unreachable!s on "released ID" paths in moq-tokio and moq-uring stopped run under the connection lock. They are invariants today, like the existing one in poll_write.
moq-tokio::integration backend::quic_client_close_drains_finished_track is flaky on main too. A 40-run stress (cargo nextest run --stress-count 40) failed 1 of 40 on main at e25f626 and 2 of 40 on this head, unloaded, both with subscribe failed: Unroutable (rs/moq-tokio/tests/integration/backend.rs:902). It is already planned in quest/m0/test-flakes-2/tokio-close-drain.md.
Review
mechanical fix by codex / Codex: Merged base, preserving the PR transmit rename and base Some(Initial) decode pattern; passed cargo build --locked -p moq-quic -p moq-tokio -p moq-uring -p qmux[at]0.7.0 --all-targets (also with --features moq-quic/fuzz), cargo test --locked -p moq-quic -p moq-tokio -p moq-uring -p qmux[at]0.7.0 --no-fail-fast, and bash -n sh/gh/nightly.sh. (head 590f1be)
Head c1f9f84: local review by Codex, gpt-6.1-sol at medium effort, via quest review --base origin/main. It ran as a fresh session (round 1) against origin/main at 945aec5, with no findings.
This head merges origin/main at e25f626 (merge c1f9f84). The auto-merge enabled before the conflict was disabled first. What the merge resolved:
Crypto sealed to rustls (moq-dev/moq#7028). moq-tokio's Connecting::handshake_data keeps this PR's poll_handshake_data wait and returns main's crypto::HandshakeData from Connection::handshake_data. The rustdoc on handshake_data, peer_identity, and crypto::HandshakeData, which pointed at the deleted HandshakeDataReady and Connected events, now names the waits. The tests use Connection::handshake_data in place of the removed crypto_session(), and the GSO train test (moq-dev/moq#7649) uses the waiter form of poll_transmit.
Freed receive state dropped (moq-dev/moq#7528). StreamsState takes main's Option<Box<Recv>> with no free list, and keeps this PR's ends: (End, u64) with the acked prefix.
qmux leased receive credit (moq-dev/moq#7624). Main moved qmux's RecvStream onto leases. It now waits through moq-quic's poll_lease and poll_received_reset. The readable map and every driver.wake() are gone, and lost() reports the error. A lease's reset is still observed through received_reset so it frees the stream. Main's new mux::Connection::set_limits now wakes the transmit waiter, as QUIC's set_limits does, and qmux's Session::set_limits drops its kick.
received_reset reports eviction (moq-dev/moq#7624). moq-tokio's and moq-uring's received_reset wait on poll_received_reset and keep main's Err(Evicted). moq-tokio gains main's pub(crate)poll_received_reset(cx) for its WebTransport adapter. That form holds the stream's park, as moq-uring's does on main.
MIGRATE.md keeps both sides' sections, and sh/gh/nightly.sh keeps main's -p moq-transcode, --bench receive_bursts, and --bench ladder plus this PR's -p moq-tokio --bench fanout.
quest/m2/perf/quic-borrow-free.md is deleted, as on main (moq-dev/moq#7531).
origin/main has since moved to 945aec5, which merges cleanly and touches none of moq-quic, moq-tokio, moq-uring, qmux, kio, or moq-sock.
cargo nextest run --no-fail-fast --all-targets --all-features -p moq-quic -p moq-tokio -p moq-uring -p qmux@0.7.0 -p moq-sock: 1626 of 1628 passed. The two failures:
quic_client_close_drains_finished_track: the flake under Follow-ups.
moq-uring's quic::qlog::tests::an_open_trace_accounts_for_staging_and_close: a memory counter read 8349 for 8240, and the test then passed 5 of 5 isolated runs. This PR does not touch qlog.
just rs check --workspace, just rs uring-check, sh/gh/nightly.test.py, and quest check --base origin/main.
Earlier rounds:
Head ddb0c04: Codex (gpt-6.1-sol) round 1 against origin/main at bcaaef1, no findings. That head merged origin/main at d8288e6, carrying this PR onto qmux's caller-spawned Driver (moq-dev/moq#7494). It also fixed the driver registering on poll_closed every step, so a_close_behind_a_stalled_peer_is_bounded holds.
Head 4718586: skipped under the simple-review rule (moq-dev/quest#364). It added a one-line wake_transmit in Connection::local_address_changed, after Pullfrog's finding on b423b27.
Pullfrog's suggestion to reword qmux's latch doc was refuted in part. The local close is published only after the close batch is flushed and the transport shut, and the latch stays per the maintainer's 2026-11-01 decision, option (a).
Codex (gpt-6.1-sol), across session 1 and a fresh session on 803ded3: one finding, fixed in e1a5ef1. moq-tokio's driver parks on poll_closed so a local close re-arms the closing timer while the socket holds output back.
moq-tokio's quic::driver, moq-uring's driver, and qmux delete their
per-stream and per-connection waiter tables, Notifys, and stopped map,
and wait on moq-quic's poll_* forms instead. They keep their I/O, timers,
the driver kick, and the latch that publishes a local close once the
close frame is out.

Every wait is a poll_* on &kio::Waiter, so the events that reported them
go: StreamEvent, Event's HandshakeDataReady, Connected,
HandshakeConfirmed, ConnectionLost, Stream, and DatagramReceived, and
QMux's Event and poll. Event keeps PathUpdated. A reset that frees its
stream keeps the acknowledged prefix, so poll_acked still answers for it
once the Acked event's offset is gone.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
poll_transmit takes the driver's waiter and returns Poll<Transmit>: with
nothing to send it registers the waiter, which the application's writes,
finishes, resets, stops, refused opens, returned credit, datagrams, new
limits, and close wake. Pacing and loss recovery stay on poll_timeout.
QMux's poll_transmit takes the same shape.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Handles no longer wake their driver after mutating the connection:
moq-quic wakes the waiter the driver parked on poll_transmit. The drivers
keep only their ingress wake. qmux's stalled writer waits on poll_closed,
so a local close still starts its close bound while output is blocked.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Conflicts resolved against this branch's moq-quic-owned waits:
- moq-tokio: handle drops take `lock_for_drop` (#7360), now in
`StreamRef` too; the driver's poisoned-state `terminate` takes no shared
argument, and the test poison helper no longer wakes a driver waker this
branch deleted.
- moq-uring: handles count toward the last-drop close (#7309); a dropped
driver fails through `Inner::fail`, which also closes moq-quic so handles
parked in its waits wake.
- moq-quic tests: the congestion renames (#7258) and the keep-alive default
(#7449).
- quest poll.md keeps the follow-ups planned from this PR, minus the link to
the waits quest this PR deletes.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Settled in #7490: the latch is I/O behavior moq-quic can't see, publishing a local close only once the CONNECTION_CLOSE is staged (moq-uring) or delivered with the transport shut (qmux).

Walkthrough
moq-quic replaces many connection and stream events with waiter-based polling APIs. It adds connection error accessors, handshake-data and received-reset polling, and waiter-aware transmission. The Tokio, uring, and qmux drivers migrate connection and stream operations to these APIs. Tests now check polling results and wakeups. The changes also update migration and quest documentation and add a Tokio stream-fanout benchmark.
Merge Risk: Low · previous review c1f9f
The polling migration has no demonstrated production failure in the supplied evidence. Remaining concerns are bounded documentation issues and tests that do not fully detect close-related regressions.

No actionable bugs found in the changed areas reviewed. Centralizing waits in moq-quic removes duplicated waiter tables and event translation; retaining ingress wakes and transport-specific close-publication latches is justified by their distinct I/O responsibilities. I traced transmit wakeups, close/error propagation, receive draining, acknowledged-prefix retention after reset, and the lifetime of Tokio stopped() futures across the three adapters. The close-wait registration addresses the earlier local-review issue described in the PR.
Verification limits: static review of the diff and relevant surrounding code through GitHub; I did not run tests or benchmarks or independently reproduce the reported performance results.

Consumers wait through moq-quic's poll_* — moq-tokio's driver, moq-uring's driver, and qmux drop their own per-stream/per-connection waiter tables, accept/open/datagram lists, and event sweeps; moq-tokio holds a kio::Park, and its stopped() futures keep the stream's ID until the last of the stream and its futures drops.
poll_transmit is the driver's wait — both QUIC and QMux register the driver's waiter when they have nothing to send, and every application-side queue wakes them through Waits::wake_transmit; pacing and loss recovery stay on poll_timeout.
New waits, and deletions — Connection::poll_handshake_data, Connection::error, and recv::Stream::poll_received_reset replace the last event-shaped waits; StreamEvent, the waiting Event variants, and mux::Event/mux::Connection::poll are gone, leaving Event::PathUpdated.
ends keeps a reset's acknowledged prefix — poll_acked still answers for that prefix after the stream's state is freed.
Tests and benches — event-expectation tests became wake-counting tests, and a moq-tokio fanout bench swept over streams per connection is wired into Nightly.
Port the waits onto qmux's new Driver (#7494): the driver parks on
mux::Connection::poll_transmit and, while the transport is blocked, on
poll_closed; the handle kicks, the driver WaiterList, and the event sweeps
stay gone. Keep both sides' nightly bench lists.

The step that gathers a batch and then finds the transport blocked never
re-registered on poll_closed, so a local close behind a stalled peer
waited for the transport instead of starting CLOSE_TIMEOUT.
a_close_behind_a_stalled_peer_is_bounded covers it.

No actionable bugs found in the changes since my prior review at b423b27, accounting for the main merge. The local-address-change transmit wake addresses the gap covered by Pullfrog’s follow-up review; my prior review had no open findings. I also traced the adaptation to qmux’s single Driver, close/error publication and the blocked-batch path. Registering poll_closed on every step covers a batch that becomes blocked during that step without consuming additional output. Centralized connection waits plus the transport-specific close latch remain a simpler division of responsibility than restoring adapter waiter tables.
Verification limits: static review through GitHub of the incremental changes and relevant surrounding code. I did not run tests or benchmarks or independently reproduce the reported timing results.

Since the prior pullfrog review (471858632):
The qmux changes were carried onto main's driver split — the merge (a7d747eba) replots this PR's waiter model onto rs/qmux/src/driver.rs: Run::step takes the driver's waiter, gathers only while room && outbound.is_empty(), and session.rs keeps just State { conn, closed, closed_waiters, local_close } with no waiter tables, sweep, or handle kicks.
poll_closed registers every step (ddb0c0475) — it moved out of the transport-blocked branch in Run::step to run unconditionally, so a step that gathers a batch and then finds the transport blocked still hears a close and starts CLOSE_TIMEOUT. This is the fix for the earlier 3.9 s stall.
New tests — a_close_behind_a_stalled_peer_is_bounded (paused time, asserts the bound) and a_local_close_ends_parked_waits cover the close path; the streams bench now drives real waiters.
Nightly and docs — sh/gh/nightly.sh adds -p moq-tokio --bench fanout; MIGRATE/README/quest docs track the API.
I traced the two risky seams: kio::Waiter records up to PARKED = 8 lists, so one driver waiter parked on both transmit (only while room holds) and closed (every step) cannot clobber the other, and Waits::lose wakes both lists, so the step loop cannot park with no wake path. The merge resolution's established/lost/check_lost rework preserves the pre-merge outcomes.

Remove or rewrite the stale StreamEvent::Acked entry.
This PR deletes StreamEvent. The entry at lines 61-69 still tells readers to add a StreamEvent::Acked { id, offset } match arm. Following it no longer compiles. Remove the entry. Alternatively, point it at send::Stream::poll_acked, which the new table already lists.

Carries the waits onto main's sealed rustls crypto (#7028), freed receive
state (#7528), and qmux's leased receive credit (#7624):
- qmux's RecvStream leases and resets through moq-quic's poll_lease and
poll_received_reset, with no readable map or driver kicks.
- moq-tokio's and moq-uring's received_reset wait on poll_received_reset and
keep main's Evicted result; moq-tokio's poll form holds the stream's park.
- mux::Connection::set_limits wakes the transmit waiter, as QUIC's does.
- Doc links to the deleted handshake events point at the waits.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
No new actionable bugs found in the base integration. The updated lease and reset paths retain moq-quic-owned waits and credit wakes, while the existing close latches remain transport-specific. The prior local-close and address-change findings remain fixed.
Static GitHub review only; I did not run builds, tests or benchmarks.
Make the parked-wait test detect a missing close wake.
a_local_close_ends_parked_waits polls accepting and reading in the test task, then awaits them again after server.close. Each post-close await re-polls the pinned future and gets the close error directly. A change that removes the close-time wake still passes. Spawn both waits as separate tasks before close, then bound each join with tokio::time::timeout so a missing wake fails the test.

Review comment at @rs/qmux/src/session/tests.rs around lines 606 - 611:
Update a_local_close_ends_parked_waits to run the accepting and reading waits in
separate tasks before calling server.close, then await each task through
tokio::time::timeout. Keep the existing checks that each wait returns the
expected close result, and ensure a missing close-time wake causes the bounded
wait to fail.
a_local_close_ends_parked_waits parks only accept_uni and read_chunk. A credit-blocked open_uni or open_bi is never parked across a local close in rs/qmux/src/session/tests.rs. A regression that stops a parked open from failing on close would still pass. Park an open with exhausted MAX_STREAMS credit before server.close(42, "bye"), then assert it returns Error::ConnectionClosed { code: 42, .. }. Use the setup in the_peer_limits_concurrent_streams (lines 374-392), where the client config sets max_streams to 1.

Review comment at @rs/qmux/src/session/tests.rs around lines 603 - 605:
The a_local_close_ends_parked_waits test does not cover an open blocked on
stream credit during local close. Reuse the max_streams setup from
the_peer_limits_concurrent_streams to exhaust credit, park an open_uni or
open_bi before server.close, and assert the parked open returns
Error::ConnectionClosed with code 42.

Assert the close error for every connected server in the sweep.
When connected is true, the guard at if connected && let Some(reason) = server.error() skips the ApplicationClosed check if server.error() is None. The flight is still counted as carried, and the final carried > 0 && fell_back > 0 check does not detect the missing close. Assert server.error() directly when connected is true, as the sibling test does.

Update the connected-server check around is_connected and server.error() so
every connected server must have an error matching ApplicationClosed with
error_code VarInt(42). Do not skip the assertion when server.error() is None;
preserve the existing handling for disconnected servers.

Reviewed changes
Since the prior pullfrog review (ddb0c0475), the only new commit is a merge of origin/main (e25f6266d) into the branch:
Main's crypto sealing merged in — crypto.rs keeps main's HandshakeData return type (#7028), and Connection::handshake_data/peer_identity delegate to it, while the branch's poll_handshake_data wait and its doc survive intact.
Main's QUIC fixes merged in — the GSO cap and the congestion-window floor land beside the branch's poll_transmit wait without disturbing it.
sh/gh/nightly.sh combines both sides — rust-extra keeps -p moq-tokio --bench fanout (this PR) and gains -p moq-transcode, --bench receive_bursts, and --bench ladder (main).
qmux and the drivers keep the branch's shape — qmux still drops rustc-hash, and moq-uring's State carries only driver/closed/closed_waiters/local_close, with no per-stream waiter tables.
Verified by compiling moq-quic, qmux@0.7.0, moq-tokio, and moq-uring at all features (lib targets). Full nextest was not runnable here because dev-dependencies pull libpipewire via libspa-sys, which is absent. Both prior Pullfrog threads are already resolved.
quest land watch: the merge queue removed this pull request at c1f9f84 because it conflicts with main (merge_conflict).
The land fixer works on it in the background, and the watcher re-enqueues it at the back of the queue once it is fixed or judged flaky, or hands it back here with what it needs.
Resolved the token test conflict by retaining conn.transmit(...) from this PR and Some(ProtectedHeader::Initial(initial)) from base. All four changed Rust packages build and pass their tests; the fuzz-enabled all-targets build also passes. Validation used existing Nix-store PipeWire, libclang, and glibc headers through PKG_CONFIG_PATH, LIBCLANG_PATH, and BINDGEN_EXTRA_CLANG_ARGS. No environment configuration files were edited.
quest land watch: armed auto-merge on this pull request at 590f1be, so it joins the back of the merge queue once its required checks pass, with the land fixer's fix (codex / Codex): Merged base, preserving the PR transmit rename and base Some(Initial) decode pattern; passed cargo build --locked -p moq-quic -p moq-tokio -p moq-uring -p qmux[at]0.7.0 --all-targets (also with --features moq-quic/fuzz), cargo test --locked -p moq-quic -p moq-tokio -p moq-uring -p qmux[at]0.7.0 --no-fail-fast, and bash -n sh/gh/nightly.sh..

Reviewed changes
Since the prior pullfrog review (c1f9f8421), one commit lands on the branch (590f1bec2): a merge of origin/main (25ff6e975) plus the token-test API fix.
Token test aligned with main's Option decode: oversized_retry_token now matches Some(ProtectedHeader::Initial(..)), since ProtectedHeader::decode returns Option after main's 0-RTT cleanup. This is the only PR-authored line in the delta.
Main's 0-RTT deletion merged in: the LongType::ZeroRtt arm is dropped from connection/mod.rs and packet_crypto.rs, matching main; it does not intersect this PR's waits.
The PR's waits survive the merge: Connection::poll_transmit, poll_handshake_data, error, and Waits::transmit/wake_transmit are intact at head, and the drivers (rs/moq-tokio/src/quic/driver/*, rs/moq-uring/src/quic/driver/*, rs/qmux) are unchanged between the two heads.
Other merged changes are orthogonal: kio's noop registration guard, moq-tokio's congestion-controller/Iroh work, and moq-uring's endpoint test touch no code this PR owns.

Problem
Finishes quest/m1/quic-api/waits.md. moq-dev/moq#7391 gave moq-quic its own waiter lists and
poll_*forms, but moq-tokio'squic::driver, moq-uring's driver, and qmux still kept their own per-stream and per-connection waiter tables, fed byStreamEventand the connection'sEvents. Every handle also kicked its driver after mutating the connection.Approach
Consumers wait on moq-quic. moq-tokio's
quic::driver, moq-uring's driver, and qmux now wait only through moq-quic's poll forms. They no longer have:readable/writable/finishingandblocked_readers/blocked_writersmaps;Notifys;stoppedmap and the event sweeps.moq-tokio's futures hold a
kio::Park. Itsstopped()futures keep the stream's ID until the last of the stream and its futures drops, so the end that moq-quic keeps untilrelease()still answers them.New waits in moq-quic, for the last two event-shaped waits.
Connection::poll_handshake_datareplacesHandshakeDataReady, used by moq-tokio'sConnecting::handshake_data.recv::Stream::poll_received_resetreplaces the readable wake behindreceived_reset. Also new:Connection::error(), which says why the connection was lost.Events deleted.
StreamEventis gone, and so are theEventvariants a handle waited on (HandshakeDataReady,Connected,HandshakeConfirmed,ConnectionLost,Stream,DatagramReceived). QMux'sEventandpollare gone too.StreamsState::notify's event-to-list mapping became direct wakes.EventkeepsPathUpdated, which no handle waits on.poll_transmitis the driver's wait. Both QUIC and QMux take the driver's waiter and returnPoll. With nothing to send, it registers the waiter. These wake it:set_limits;Pacing and loss recovery stay on
poll_timeout. Every handle-side kick is deleted. moq-uring keeps only its ingress wake, so a received datagram still re-arms timers. moq-tokio's and qmux's drivers read their own ingress, so they need none.qmux close while output is blocked. qmux's
Driveralso registers onpoll_closedevery step, so a local close still starts the close bound while the transport holds output back.a_close_behind_a_stalled_peer_is_boundedcovers this on paused time. It fails (3.9 s, over the 3 s bound) without the registration.Tests count wakes. moq-quic's
Eventtests now count wakes with a counting waiter. New tests cover the handshake-data, received-reset, and transmit waits.Acked prefix kept after a reset. A reset that frees its stream keeps the acknowledged prefix alongside its end.
poll_ackedstill answers for that prefix after theAckedevent's offset is gone.Impact
StreamEventis gone, and so areEvent::{HandshakeDataReady, Connected, HandshakeConfirmed, ConnectionLost, Stream, DatagramReceived},mux::Event, andmux::Connection::poll.Connection::poll_handshake_data,Connection::error, andrecv::Stream::poll_received_reset.Connection::poll_transmit(waiter, now, max_datagrams, buf) -> Poll<Transmit>andmux::Connection::poll_transmit(waiter, now) -> Poll<Bytes>.rs/moq-quic/MIGRATE.md(a table from each event to its wait), and the README's fork list is updated.open_uni/open_bi/accept_uni/accept_bibecameasync fn, with the same signatures for callers.poll_open_requestafter a local close returns the close's error rather thanOk(None)(no credit).Decisions
closedwith oneWaiterList. They publish a close this side asked for topoll_closedonly once the CONNECTION_CLOSE is staged (uring), or delivered with the transport shut (qmux). That is I/O behavior moq-quic can't see, and keeping it changes no behavior. The reason is now documented next to each latch (rs/moq-uring/src/quic/driver/connection.rsState::closed,rs/qmux/src/session.rsState::closed). The alternatives were for moq-quic'spoll_closedto wait for the close packet to leavepoll_transmit(a regression for qmux), or to resolve atclose()and drop the guarantee.Choices made without asking
close()so every parked waiter wakes. moq-quic gained no "fail with a foreign error" API.poll_transmit's wait does not cover. moq-tokio's ingress already arrives on its own channel, and qmux'sDriver(moq-dev/moq#7494) reads the transport itself, so neither keeps a driver waker list.ShouldTransmitis still returned, but consumers ignore it.Chunks::finalizeand the lease methods still return it. moq-quic now wakes the transmit waiter itself.rust-extragroup, assh/gh/nightly.test.pyrequires of every bench target. qmux dropsrustc-hash, which only its waiter maps used.Measurements

rs/moq-tokio/benches/fanout.rsis new and uses only the unchanged public driver API, so the same file ran on both sides.
Nothing scales with stream count:connection_blockedis flat or better from 1 to 1024 live writers (0.79x to 1.06x).send_priorityat 1024 streams is unchanged (1.00x to 1.02x, plus one base outlier).set_priorityshowed 1.08x to 1.38x on the first run, but 0.96x to 0.97x on a rerun of that group alone.send_write_size/window_16k, at 1.13x to 1.25x. Those are flow-control-blocked writes on a 16 KiB window, and the cost does not grow with streams.Follow-ups
