Problem

The release hand-port is now in moq-dev/moq#7680. Main's quest still describes implementation that has already been completed and verified.

Approach

Record the reproduced race, the hand-port and coverage, and what remains: the main-side PUBLISH_DONE grace correction found in local review, the backport landing, and the separate patch release. Keep the existing quest until the published patch contains the fix.

Impact

  • Public API and wire: unchanged. This PR changes quest bookkeeping only; the implementation targets release in moq-dev/moq#7680.
  • No package version bumps, tags, or publication.

Alternatives

Retain the quest for the remaining landing and publication work, preserving its settled relay-only scope.

Validation

  • quest check --base origin/main passes, 551 documents.
  • just ci origin/main passes, including repository tooling fixtures.

Review

Skipped by GPT-6.1 Sol for 18c7a3e786: documentation-only status and prerequisite update, checked against the backport and local review. The implementation has its separate Claude Opus 5.5 review record in moq-dev/moq#7680.

Follow-ups

  • The existing quest retains the main-first grace correction and patch-publication work.
  • The backport lists suggested quests for older-history collision handling and cached Codex shell selection.
  • Suggested follow-up quest: keep Bun's workflow test discovery within the active checkout. Its filename filters also discovered the API checker's generated release source tree under the build cache and ran those old tests against main's workflows. Moving that generated source copy into ignored scratch restored the intended test set.

Reviewed changes

This run reviewed the single-file quest bookkeeping update in quest/m0/backport-fill-head-race.md against the linked implementation PRs.

  • Quest retitle and goal — renamed from [M] Backport the joined-head FETCH race fix to release to [S] Ship the joined-head FETCH race backport, with the goal restated as the release relay fix plus a moq-net patch release and an explicit "Public API and wire stay unchanged".
  • Plan rewritten to current status — #7135 merged on main; the relay fix hand-ported in #7680 (targeting release); the race reproduced on release (both joined-head miss tests emitted an extra FETCH, older-history control fetched immediately); port covers cancellation/abort on release's paused-time harness; maintainer decisions recorded.
  • New ## Waiting section — main-side PUBLISH_DONE grace correction before #7680 lands, and the maintainer merge/publication of the patch with a verify-then-remove step.

The claims line up with the referenced PRs: #7135 is merged on main and carries only the relay fix (JS half dropped), and #7680 is open against release with matching reproduction, coverage, and PUBLISH_DONE-grace details. quest/m0/README.md:35 still links the quest with an accurate description, and no em dashes were introduced. Documentation-only change with no behavioral, wire, or API surface.

No actionable bugs found. Keeping the quest open through the main-first correction, backport landing and patch verification is a clear continuation of the settled scope.

Static GitHub review of the status and linked PRs only; I did not run tests or verify a release.
